Description

El Cumbre Climbers Campground

We spent a month there and found it to be just the perfect place. You're close to the La Pena and Chichi entrances. It is much quieter than being in the town centre. The town centre is just 15mins walk. The campsite is the lower carpark, but it was never used except for the Xmas and NY holiday weekends. There are two friendly horses and a small corral of sheep and goats off to one side. Alexandro and his family are great hosts too. The cost is 100Ps/n.

Showers are available across the street at Posada Don Luis for 50Ps.

There is a small shop in the upper carpark where you can buy fresh bread and pastries and water. Ice is available at another shop 300m along the road into town.

Town has 2 Oxxos and a Super Q where you can buy milk and other groceries. And Joe's Pizza, between the Oxxo and Super Q on the Main St, makes a great 120Ps Chico Carne pizza that will feed 2!

There is also a laundry on the Main St where if you drop off your clothes you can pick them up at 5pm the next day for 100-200Ps.

The moderate (5.6-5.9) multipitch climbing on PdB is both superb and extensive. Access is also short and quick. Most lines in current use have been rebolted. If you want an adventure, this is the place to come to. IMHO I rate it, along with the stable weather, nearby camping, and associated services, in the top 10 moderate, multipitch crags I have climbed on.

Easy secure car park with toilet use. Many day visitors, especially at the weekend, very quiet at night. We paid $120 per night, if you stay longer you can get a discount.
WiFi at the restaurant.
Right next to the mountain with the best view.

A bit filthy and noisy but we arrived late and it was convenient

As clearly stated below, place to park close to the climbing at the Peña. Super close to both entries to the park. Paid $100 per night which included access to bathrooms. Bathrooms are nice and clean. You can get showers across the street at Don Luis Posada for $50. He does have a weird schedule so you just have to be on the look out for when he is there. 15 minute walk to the center/main plaza. Super cute town.
Make sure to eat at Negra Gordita and the Italian place off the square.
