Argentina
Easy border crossing. Very well organized. Argentinian and Chilean immigration and customs are all in the same building. They even have wifi. No copies and no costs. The Argentinian custom officer checked our car, but more out of interest than anything else. :)
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
It's also not possible to cross the border from Argentina to Chile. This border is closed!
Report Check-InCAUTION! It's not possible to cross this border from Chile to Argentina. You don't get your exit stamps and TIP Cancellation from Chile, because there are just employees from Argentina here. Nobody from Chile!
Report Check-InCaution: Comments are duplicated from JAMA border crossing!! Paso Sico is a commercial-vehicle-only border crossing. Do not drive here in a private motor vehicle.
Report Check-InChilean border is closed at the moment. Has been closed already two years. There is no entry or exit to/from Argentina. Only for trucks.
Report Check-InFree place to stay with a hot shower and wifi! Super friendly guys, they even gave us a big barrel of water. There are three big dorms, two bathrooms and a kitchen. We could bring the bicycles inside for the night.
Report Check-InVery nice officers, all easy going. They didn’t check our bicycles. They hosted us for the night. We were the only people in the dorm. Hot water, kitchen, good Wifi, everything for free.
Report Check-InAbsolutely horrible border crossing. Chilean officials were very friendly and efficient, but the Argentine guy was not and wouldn't let me enter (Brit, with American car and a poder).
If traveling under poder we would strongly advise against using this border. He claimed a poder is only valid if issued in the same country as where the car is registered.
Report Check-Inavoid. not letting foreigners with Chilean plates cross, nice sag and immigration people, pretty unhelpful, but not rude, aduana guy. we had been in Argentina several times with the car but he would not let us through. no reason given.
Report Check-InArgentina and Chile immigration and aduana are all at the same place. Rather fast process. Chilean aduana guy was annoying, asking us how we got out of Chile with Chilean car and no Chilean visa/residencia. Since we were entering Chile from Argentina, he couldn't do much. But told us that by the law it is not allowed and that we won't be able to leave Chile again with our car, not in this region. Collegures at the south might do things differently, but up here this is the law... Were his words. Anyways, we did it in 30 minutes, car check was quick, took our dries tomatoes, left packed chia seeds.
Report Check-InAs of now, there is no immigration officers working on the Chilean side of this border. if you're coming from Argentina to Chile, it is possible to cross here and check in at the Aduana in san pedro de atacama, but you cannot cross from Chile to Argentina at this border.
Report Check-InWas denied entry here with my Peruvian registered bike. Saying I don't have enough documents. Had to turn back to Chile. Oh well.....
Still a good place though eventhough they won't let me in. I'll go and try at another border.
Chile to Argentina.
Nice office. Streamlined, quick, pleasant, barely looked at our car. We wanted the 8 month TIP. I checked the date for the TIP and it was for 3 months. The guy processing the TIP was irritated to redo it, said it was unnecessary if the passport stamp was only valid for 3 months. We got it changed after a polite conversation, but I would recommend telling the first person stamping your passport that you intend to stay in Argentina for more than 3 months. Good luck!
p.s. The road from Chile to here was pretty, even better than the Lagunas Route in Bolivia!
New road Till the border from chile to Argentina, then gravel road. Not the most chossen place to pass the border, so it's small but super welcome. Gendarmeria people was very kind with us specially César Seguí. We had a problem and he Made all that was possible to help us. We are very grateful with him. A really good man. If you see him, please tell him we always remember him with gratitud.
Report Check-InVery easy crossing, very friendly. We were late and the weather was very bad. so they recomend to stay over night. Next morning we had a lot of snow on the road. Took us 2.5h till S m
