Description

Not sure if these are the exact correct coordinates, maybe +/- a few KM in either direction, but there was a police checkpoint and we got pulled over. Told we had “illegally crossed the middle yellow line” and had to pay a fine. Then they said $50 and we could go. Then went down to 700C. They threatened to keep our (old) license until we paid at the bank and said we couldn’t get our license back until the next day (eventually said we’d have to wait 15 days, lol).

We never paid, just kept wasting their time. Took us 30 minutes. Said we’d rather pay at the bank than give them a ‘multa’. Eventually, they let us off and even gave us back our license.

Maybe 8-10km after (correction going to Costa Rica) there was another police check point.

Advice: in this area, don’t speed and don’t cross any solid yellow lines, even if all the locals do it.

Passed by without problems. No police here today either.

Report Check-In

I went with ways in one day and haven't seen anyone here.

Report Check-In

A little bit south from here.

We drove slow right behind a truck. They didn‘t even look at us, but the car behind got pulled over and some on the other side as well.
Even the locals drove slower for around 10km and didn’t take over, so it still might be an issue.

Report Check-In

We got stopped today. Asked for driver's license & insurance, gave him copies of both. He got annoyed, wanted to see the original driver's license, we showed it but didn't give it to him. With Google translate he told us in Nicaragua only the originals count, no copies but then reluctantly let us go. Cost us maybe 10 minutes total.

There were a couple of policies there… just wave to us!

Report Check-In

They stopped us and said that our insurance for all middle american countries is not valid. After some discussion they switched over to accusing us to have crossed the middle line. I showed them the video of our dashcam, but they said I had crossed the line before the corner, which they clearly couldn't have seen. I repeated that I didn't do anything wrong, even when they said they would keep our license and registration for 2 weeks. After around 30 minutes they handed back our papers and we could go, without paying anything.

Another one! We got pulled over yet again… we were definitely not doing anything wrong. Made up a story about how we crossed a solid line- considering this happened on the way down, we were definitely paying attention… didn’t happen. Total lie to get us to pull over. HOWEVER, we had fire extinguisher, all paperwork, but did not have the “triangles”…. She quickly forgot about the “illegal maneuver” as soon as she found something legit wrong. Didn’t even know we needed “triangles”…took the ticket for the triangles. Get the triangles ;) ;(

Report Check-In

Still here! A few KM past this point (towards Costa Rica). We got pulled over for “passing too close to oncoming car”. It was definitely not true- not a solid line and there was lots of space between us and the oncoming car. He took the license and after 15 minutes of conversation, he told us we could pay him to get the license back. We said we had no cash (which was true) and after a few seconds he gave us back the license and told us to leave. Be careful along this stretch of road- pay close attention to your driving!
