Lots of dispersed sites in this area. It is an ORV area but also lots of small ponds so some nice sites can be found. Good, flat, roads. AT&T was often no service, but found a spots with 3 bars 5G.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Hanging Rock Rec Area. Paved road up until the Hanging Rock trailhead, then a wide, good gravel road with single lane side roads. Spots off the main road - all kinds, some with pull-throughs, but tight vegetation-wise. This one has easy access and room to 3-point out. A few choices for parking spots, decently level. Rare vehicle passing by. 2 dirt bikes on the trail behind. Lots of ponds for fishing.
Report Check-InThis is an ATV/UTV riding area with dispersed campsites. I did not note any official signs but the USFS has graded and graveled some areas to camp at. Wasn’t that quiet at my arrival around 10 PM on a Thursday because of nighttime riders but it soon got quiet. Lots of animals in the surrounding forests.
Report Check-InLots of nice spots to pull into. I stayed at a spot just a bit further from where this dot on the map is and got a spot with its own pit toilet. Had NO cell service with Verizon.
Report Check-InHanging Rock ORV trails in Wayne NF….14 day limit…maybe 6 established sites…vault toilets…1 bar LTE ATT
Report Check-InThere are maybe 4 options for little pull offs. They were nice enough and not too close together. One is right off the road with no privacy.
SO MUCH TRASH. We came in and filled up a garbage bag with the amount of litter left behind. Even a syringe. Cell service was minimal. Ironton was about 15 min away with amenities aplenty.
The atv tracks were right behind camp and all over. Not my fav when they go speeding by at 10pm but whatever. 3/10 rating
Plenty of legal dispersed sites through this national recreational area. There is also a network of OTV trails so I did a pleasant 9km hike right out the door in the morning. T-Mobile service available but slow—just 1 or 2 bars of LTE. I was able to park flat but most sites seem relatively uneven. Still, a great option in the area.
Report Check-InYou’re looking for the Hanging Rock OHV System in Wayne National Forest.
Coordinates are for this specific little turn-in, which was thankfully open! There are several other more “official” looking sites along the way as well, but it was long after dark so I opted not to explore until morning.
I was bummed not to hike around, because it is such a pretty area, especially at this time of year, and looks like there’s a trail or two stemming right off of this site!
Worked great for a quick overnight sleep, but would probably want a different campsite down the road for a multi-night stay. Lots of tree roots make the ground uneven. I was able to get a decently level situation with my little rig, but bigger setups will likely feel pretty cramped in this specific spot.
Pit toilets are at the trailhead, not sure if they have more at any of the campsites.
Report Check-InA few spots in the forest. Very quiet even if we saw a few cars passing by. Sites big enough for any kind of rigs.
Report Check-Ina very nice and quiet. smooth roads and a clean pit toilet. Verizon cell service good.
