There is a teleférico going down to sanctuario. You can sleep on the parking for free. Very easy for big RV. Toilets in the station. Guard at night. Good wifi at station even from parking place.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Amazing, felt very safe. Didn't find a guard though but parked directly under the cameras. Wifi works great!
Report Check-InExcellent option with clean bathrooms and WiFi. Security guard at night. Payment is donation based. We paid 5000COP. And left some dog food.
Report Check-InExcelente ubicación, el parqueadero del teleférico de Las Lajas; presta el servicio para Motorhome sin costó. Es un lugar con cerramiento y seguridad privada. Muy recomendado.
Report Check-InStayed here two nights. We were not charged, but we took the cable car ride down to the church (40,000 cop for two people). Bathrooms available and plenty of level parking. Free wifi closer to the building.
Report Check-InWe arrived here on the first Sunday in February. We paid 3000cop and we’re welcomed to stay one night. A guard came by a little later to make it clear it was just one night. We were told it is a one night spot ONLY. Clean restrooms, free wifi, great views. Excellent deal for one night only!
Report Check-InPaid 3k pesos to park. Bathrooms available, was told not to drink the water. Great place to wait to cross into Ecuador.
Report Check-InCrossing the border is challenging these days so we went to Teleferico several times and stayed there almost two weeks. The staff is very helpful and nice. We ran out of propan and two hours later a gas truck from MONTAGAS Ipiales arrived at the scene. Same goes for laundry. One of the staff members, his name is Orlando, called his sister and an hour later our clothes were picked up. Same goes for drinking water. A private copyshop next to the entrance as well as a small fiends for beverages etc. These people are really amazing and we loved to stay there. Best, in the end there were three rigs and one biker so it felt really like camping. Excellent !
Report Check-InStii the best place outside Ipiales for motorhomes every size. very nice view.
14000 cop return ticket.
Still a very good place if you are starting or leaving Colombia.
We was here 16 Jan 2020 and now 9 Feb 2021.
Monday usually the gate is close, but you can walk and find someone and explain your situation. They opened the gate for us and let us sleep here on Monday.
Very nice colombian people.
Welcome to Colombia!
We love this country!
Very safe and super quiet at night. We slept so well.
We arrived in the dark and the main gate was closed, but not locked. We opened it, drove thru and closed it again, drove to the security and everxthing was fine. Super friendly. Open Wifi.
A perfect start in colombia. Quiet parking lot with clean toilets. The visit of beautiful Santuario de las Lajas is definitely worth it!
Report Check-In3rd time we were here. still free! clean baños, water outside the toilet building (looking downhill on the right side). park at the far end above there (towards the trees). open wifi.
Report Check-Ingood and very safe place to spend a night after crossing the border Ecuador- Colômbia
Report Check-InPark for free, toilets in the telefrico terminal, nice and quite. Great spot to visit Las Layas at night and in the morning.
Report Check-InThree 'terrasses' with lighted parking spaces for the users of the cable cars. We arrived this Sunday afternoon and were met by the guard with "you'd like to spend the night?". Two more overlanders already there...
The teleférico costs COP 14000 (about USD 4) return trip per person - we went to see the church lit in colorful LED lights. Camping in a guarded area is worth that without the ride.
We were unlucky noise wise: down the road, someone had a tent, a light show and powerful audio.
Report Check-InNice and quiet parking lot to stay over night.
They ask 1.000 COP per person.
Stayed here for one night before crossing the border to Ecuador. Free of charge with access to the toilets all night. Like others say, the only downside is no showers, but there is a tap next to the toilets for old fashioned self-washing.
Don't bother with the Teleférico it's a rip off (10,000 COP per person/per way!!). Incredibly slow and a massive queue. The walk each way is about 30 minutes.
Report Check-InWe arrived at 7pm the guard wasn't at the cabin, main gate was open, so we just moved the small blocks to get in. Probably they close the gate later, we didn't check it. Had two other overlanders there when we arrived. We had a safe and quite night. We didn't have wifi from the car. Also we left next morning at 10 am, didn't have to do the telepheric. All free.
Report Check-InNice place to stop before crossing the border, safe, free, nice staff and the visit to the church is also pretty nice. At 18h there's a light show on the church.
Report Check-InNice quiet and safe place to sleep. WiFi was fast enough to make WhatsApp calls. Potable water tap on side of building to fill your jugs...just ask first and when no other tourist around.
Cable car is incredibly slow. Could walk faster uphill!
Report Check-InBest wildcamping spot in colombia. Safe and quiet. Good spot before or after crossing the border.
Report Check-InExcellent border crossing place. Secure and very clean bathrooms. We left early in the morning, just connect with the night guard and he will open the gate to exit.
Enjoyed visiting Las Lajas Church via telepheric as well.
A few degrees colder here than in Las Lajas. Super clean bathrooms but no access to the WiFi network from the carpark but saying that it's pretty slow anyway. You may have better luck with mobile data. Bathrooms open all night, Cafetería opens at 08:00. Nothing to eat but there's a shop on the road to Las Lajas only 200m away.
Report Check-InGood spot. Still free. WC & free (slow) WiFi. Great to break the journey before (or after) the border.
Report Check-InOnly disadvantage is that there is no shower - otherwise perfect spot to spend a night and visit las lajas! Clean toilets and for free! 10 min to border!
Report Check-Inwe stayed here already in february. this time we parked our sprinter van for several days at the far end of the lower platform. all quiet, even at weekends, clean baños, water, wifi.
several fellow travellers stayed next to us - without greetings or any talking. we just hope they are more polite to locals.
Free and super safe. Clean bathrooms with tp. No showers. Potable water, we were able to fill up our containers. Free WiFi.
Report Check-InVery ‘tranquilo’ camp with toilets open all the night. We asked the guy of teleferic to know where is it possible to sleep, he said everywhere, but it recommend to sleep just behind the entry because it’s secured all the night. Very quiet place and helpful staff with free WiFi inside.
Report Check-InStill free, very quiet at night.
We paid COP 16.000 for the teleférico to Las Lajas and back on a thursday.
We spend 3 nights here, wifi works pretty well, just put your car near as you can to the house, and it works all night. we cold work! and the visit of the Church is a must! wait until 6:30 wen gets dark! wow what a heck!!! incredible!!!
Report Check-InStayed a very quiet night for free, on a level spot with again free wifi.
Report Check-InReally perfect for visiting Las Lajas, free and save! When we reached the gate with our rig the first thing they said: Camping? Then they direct you to a corner of the big parking. Great. Completely quiet in the night, all grassy area... good to let the dog run. Toilets spotless! Can highly recommend! Teleférico is also a nice way to visit Las Lacas and have the car in a secure place!
Report Check-InAn excellent spot. Friendly employees, wifi and quiet. Spent two nights while visiting the shrine
Report Check-InStill free super friendly guard perfect place to camp pre border crossing. Don't count on decent WiFi in the van though - but good enough at the main building. Toilets open all night.
Report Check-InOur free stay at the parking lot at the top of the teleferico was secure and quiet. The bathrooms were spotless. No showers, water, electric (you can charge devices at the main building) or wifi. But you will be in a good position to tackle the border crossing early. The Sanctuario de Las Lajas is also worth a visit.
Report Check-InEstación del teleférico amplio parqueo gratuito tranquilo y seguro dentro de las
Report Check-InGreat spot before or after crossing the border. The guards will ask you to park on the second level, all the way back. You'll need to use leveling blocks if you have them. WiFi didn't reach the van and cell service is spotty. We spent a few quiet, safe nights here while getting some new tires. We didn't take the teleférico, but drove to the main parking lot instead. Don't miss Lajas, really beautiful. Recommended.
Report Check-InDescriptions as below. Note: you can take a dog on the teleférico BUT pets are not allowed at the church. However, there are at least 8 street dogs down there. So we just unclipped Nica when we got off the tram and let her follow us around down below. No one said anything as she played street dog well. There is also a set of cages to put dogs in, but I couldn’t find the person with keys.
Report Check-InHello
So great place to park your motorhome for the night.
we stay 2 days here when we come from équateur.
The time to buy some food and a SOAT in town.
We have take the cableway to see Las Lajas.
If you can take it in the end of the afternoon and see the church with the Light show. ..it's great.
The cableway is certainly the slowest in the world...!!!
Enjoy
Seriously folks, make this your last stop in Colombia or first heading north. Can’t say enough good! Safe quiet clean and bring those big rigs! As of now overnight camping free. Bathrooms open 24 hours
The treat is the tram cable to Las Lajas....16 mil round trip per person to the cathedral - this is the Queen Cathedral of all in Colombia!
In the big parking lot of the cable car of the sanctuary of Las Lajas, the campers can be parked. For 2000. Colombian Pesos. It has bathrooms but no showers... cafeteria... And it is near the sanctuary.. It is safe and people are very attentive... WiFi, electricity
Report Check-InGood place for one night, even two. We felt safe, it was quiet, has a clean toilet and it is less than 3km to the sanctuary.
Report Check-InEstacionamento do teleférico que vai até o santuário, tivemos uma noite bem tranquilo, as pessoas que cuidam do teleférico são muito amáveis, o portão fecha umas 21h e abre as 7h da manhã. Seguro e tranquilo, banheiro e WiFi.
Report Check-InWe got here at 12 on the night after a 7hours birder cross and it was already closed. The guardians there help us but they couldn’t open the gate for us. Just be aware to get there earlier.
Report Check-InStayed the night here before crossing the border to Ecuador. It was quiet and perfect for our truck camper to park. We didn’t see a night guard or anyone around.
Report Check-InAs stated previously. Great spot pre or post border crossing! Teleférico and Santuario walk about are worth it for a nice little afternoon.
Report Check-InGreat place after the border crossing. Safe, banos open for us all night. Nice walk to the castle and back with colectivo.
Report Check-InSeriously, just stay here. Free, wifi, good bathrooms, friendly staff, nobody cares if you actually use the telepherica or not. Nobody collected or even wanted our passports. They obviously get a lot of overlanders, as soon as we pulled in they automatically directed us to park in a quiet dark corner away from the day-time traffic.
Report Check-InFree as noted. Very clean bathrooms with TP but no seats. We stayed two nights. Guard came over on second night for "registration". There are frequent buses into Ipiales. It's a ten minute walk to Mirador and you get a nice view, even at night when Sanctuary is lit up. Thirty minutes walk to Sanctuary. Cable car 10k one way, 16k round trip but 20k on weekends. Tigo reception good, wifi spotty reaching parking. Very quiet at night.
Report Check-InAs everyone else has said great spot to camp before crossing the border. The guard asked us to write down our passports details for him, he was fine with us staying tho. Toilets + wifi free
Report Check-InLot of space for overnight parking. A security guy passed by to collect our names and passport numbers. WIFI works only at the restaurant. We spend a quiet night.
Report Check-Ingreat stop-over for our first night in Colombia. we arrived after dark and received a friendly welcome from guard. good free wifi stretched out to the car-park. Free. Didn't need the facilities but saw there are toilets.
Report Check-InVery nice place free WiFi, WC, water safe
You can walk in 45 min to the church there is also free WiFi
This place is in wrong location - it is located at 0.81045, -77.59714
Report Check-InGood place at the telepheric. overnight guards. If the gate is closed just ring.
Report Check-Inexcelent lugar, para llegar hasta aquí toda la ruta está asfaltada, no hay que usar el teleférico.
Report Check-InQuiet at night. Staff came around at 9pm and asked for ID. Clean bathrooms. Wifi libre wasn't working on Sunday. Ticket office opened at 7:30 and first series of gondolas left at 7:35. A 25 min. ride down to basilica.
Report Check-InAs others said. Parking lot at the cable cars. It's a beautiful but slow ride to the church. Access to clean restrooms all night and friendly employees. Great option for overnight.
Report Check-InReally friendly staff. It's free and there free wifi, very clean bathrooms. Enough room to park an army of cars.
There are power outlets outside, but you need an extra extra long extension cord to reach the parking ( but you can plug in ur gadgets). Gate closes at 8 pm and reopens at 7 am ( very safe at night). There a few very friendly gods around.
Definitely the place to stay. Highly recommend the gondola ride ( 20,000 return) there is amazing church at the other end, worth a visit.
buen lugar para parquear, seguro, baños limpios y WiFi libre. La gente del lugar es muy agradable. Se puede parar aunque no usen el teleférico
Report Check-InThis place was awesome for us. It's just a parking lot, but the bathrooms are clean and the wifi reaches the parking area, and best of all it's free. We stayed two nights. And took the cable car down to the church one day and it was awesome. Not the best for rent campers as you are in a parking lot. Also good for dogs as there is lots of space for them to run and play
Report Check-InFree place to spend the night. Secure parking with gate and attendant. Clean bathrooms and free wifi. Take the gondola to the beautiful Las Lajas church.
Report Check-InGreat free spot for the night. Amazing views, friendly guards, clean toilets. Closed during the night but the guards will open the gate if you need to leave early.
Report Check-InParking super tranquille et sur un peu loin pour aller à pieds à la basilique, mais il y a le télécabine. WC ouvert 24h et trés bonne wifi
Report Check-InGreat place and friendly staff. You can use electricity inside of the bulding. Free wifi and water.
Report Check-Init's a good place for the night with a good wifi, bathroom and very Nice landscape.
Report Check-InTotally! Really recommend even though the site is not a beaut. But it is very convenient.
Report Check-InPerfect place to spend the night before crossing the border! Excellent wifi, bathrooms, plenty of space for big rigs, very friendly staff. Free
Report Check-InGood spot for a night or two before and after bordercrossing. Wifi running well from vehicle, could get cold at night.
Report Check-InFriendly people, flat, free wifi, great views and toilets open 24hrs - what more do you need!
Report Check-InGreat to spend the night in peace before crossing the border into Ecuador. We asked the staff if we could camp in our car there and it was no problem-they took our details but no cost.Toilets and wifi.It felt very secure- there was a guard at night. Only a few kms to the border the following day.
Report Check-Inamazing, free overnight opportunity! supersweet staff, beautiful view, clean bathrooms were open all night. free wifi, without password. we did not take the telepheric, but they were happy to let us stay. they also sell some snacks (cakes, empanadas, drinks..).
