what a hidden gem! one of our favorite places we camped on the island and it's free! beautiful lake views and can see cruise ships and such pass by. We only stayed one nights and didn't see any whales but others there said they saw some on multiple day stays. We got very lucky and got the last spot on a Sunday with a long weekend. would definitely stay again!
Report Check-InNice place, but very open to the other campsites, but it didn’t really bother us. We had great neighbours, which made it nice.
The 17 km gravel road was in great condition. It had recently been graded when we went there.
There’s a short 10 minute hike on the trail just before the bridge. It takes you to a pool where two small waterfalls flow into and you can swim. It was beautiful.
It’s free and was very clean. Would definitely stay again.
Report Check-InStayed 3 nights. Fire pit at sites but fire ban prevented any fires and all campers obeyed. Pit toilet.
Road in is 17 kms of gravel with about the first half rough due to washboard but very passable. We drove in with a Sprinter van and had no issues. Saw 30+ ft trailers camped too.
Saw whales, bald eagles and every manner of songbirds. Cruise ships pass by too.
Path to waterfall is a 15 minute hike. Not a smooth path! Great pool at base of waterfall.
Also there is a path to a high lookout overlooking the strait.
Poor starlink service despite partial north facing view. Beautiful place, but won’t work if you need reliable internet for working remotely
Report Check-InMost sites are pretty exposed, but the far end site is nestled into the trees. Just watch out for the stream bordering it. Plenty of eagles in the area. Fire pits, a clean pit toilet, awesome views.
