Description

Old resort with wonderful campsites overlooking the sea. It was once a big place with many campsites, chalets, restaurant and bar. Unfortunately nobody came anymore and the owners are happy to see people. So you will stay mostly alone…
Ablution are old style, but clean (hot water from donkey). Campsites are big (we stayed on 8c with nice view and shade). Electricity on request (from a generator / surcharge). Water & firewood for free. We paid 400 MEZ ppn and enjoyed it very much. The long and lonely beach is a short walk from the camp (or you can take the car). You can buy fish from the fishermen at the beach.
Important: 4x4 only! The last 4 km over the dunes are deep sand (tyre pressure 1,5 bar)

Really we did not like it. Very dissapointed.
The last 5 km are OK with a 4x4. No problem.
The views are really amazing.

But the place is running down. At the campsite no water tap, no electricity, no light, roofs of the protection huts broken.... Some showers broken, no toilet paper, you must switch on the donkey for the hot water...
And the beach is at 10-15 minutes walking. Easy to go down, but not so easy to go up.
They asked 100 rand pppn.
Very sadly we did not stay.

Still one of our favourite spots! And we return every year. It’s great at super low tide to go for a walk on the reef and watch the locals gathering anything from oysters to carbuncles. We love the Deserted beach. It’s still open so give Louise a call !!

We have been coming here since 2017 and absolutely love it! The owners Hannes and Louise are very accommodating and my heart breaks for them to see it so empty, but in a way that’s also what makes it so special, It’s like our very own private piece of heaven. The views and beach are well worth the journey - do deflate your tyres as suggested. We usually stay at the campsite right on the edge of the dune (unless it’s windy) otherwise there are other more sheltered spots. They also have a few “cassitas” (brick chalets) if you prefer, but you’d need to bring your own bedding - phone in advance if you want to make use of the cassitas.
You can buy crayfish and oysters from the local fishermen too!

Cool, place, a bit tricky to get to. We made a road marker turn point on here as we ran into some other ppl trying to find this road and maps.me and google take you through the village up thr road.
The last.4kms or so will require crafty 4x4 sand driving or just deflate the tyres.
Owners a nice, getting old and looking to retire. Place is for sale for 4-million Rand. Said it can hold up to 300 campers and used to fill during holidays before covid. no one had been here in awhile, we showed up unannounced. They had to clean the bathroom and would need to start the generator for power. Asked 100Rand/person. On checkout they said 75rand/person as the place was kind of not ready for us. We still paid the 200Rand, as they could use it right now. Overall good with nice sea views :)
