Something not right?

Description

There’s a bunch of dispersed camping spots alongside this wonderful trail. When we were there we were clearly the only ones in the whole area. There are big rocks you can climb to watch the sunset, not many bugs, temperature is great (We were there in August). Verizon works amazingly well for such a remote area…2-3 bars with great speeds!

Great area. Beautiful. Lots of sites. We were the only van there. Good cell service.

I spent two nights at a spot a little further west of the two pins in this area. Very quiet, only saw three other people. It's pretty exposed so make sure you have shelter from the sun if you're here in summer. Saw the ants others mentioned but they never bothered me or my dog. Will definitely stay here again.

Beautiful spot, great sunset, good Verizon. There are ants and mice and pack rats though. Stand in one spot long enough and the ants will find you, even up on the rocks, though they mostly just seem curious. The mice are bold at night but I managed to snap trap 7 of them. Could have kept resetting the traps but I was tired. I also had a large packrat crawling around the underside of the van. Ultrasonic deterant didn't seem to bother them. There are also chipmunks come to think about it. Guess this place was too good to be true.

Not a bad place to spend the night. a little bit noisy from roads nearby, dogs barking in the distance. Just a little bit of trash, and broken glass here and there along with the typical slobs toilet items in places. Had three ATVs cruise by slowly, checking out the rocks and campers (one other camp nearby, can hear voices in the distance) The thing to watch out for, is the mice! They got into the back of our closed up truck and ate our pancake mix.

Love staying here! So peaceful and quiet, though wind can be fierce! Road is smooth except a couple hefty rocks - just rattle your home a little.

Very cool place with very unique rock formations. Found most sites were overrun by ants that bite. Not fun for us or our dog. When driving thru I couldn’t help notice (of the few that stayed here) no one was outside their van or campers, can’t help but wonder if that was why. We ended up camping at the very top flat area. Way less ants and cactus and amazing views. Pretty cool place. With water access in near by town Del Norte only about 5 mins away.

As described, very quiet area off hwy 112. Reminds me of New Mexico for dry landscape , it’s the opposite of what I expect in Colorado! We drove over Wolf creek pass, an easy road. I think it’s about 90 minutes to Salida from here.

to find this place I would just google elephant rocks and you’ll find a trail head. if you try to put in these exact coordinates it takes you somewhere different. but it’s the perfect spot to camp! nice and breezy, not too many bugs, even have good service! at&t and metro were both good. nice places to walk around, but careful of the cacti if you have any pets!

Just happened to notice this on the map when eating in Del Norte. What an interesting and quiet place to camp.

Loved this spot! Cool to be surrounded by giant boulders. Strong Verizon service to work and take meetings. Quite windy when I was there. Easy road in for any vehicle.

Super chill spot! Starry nights with some city lights, beautiful mountains all around. A miniature version of California’s Alabama rocks. No one drove by on a Monday. Accessible in April when all the higher mountain areas were closed

Agree with everything, thank you so much! Would just like to add that the winds have been mighty. Got a break around sunset but they picked up a lot during the night and then again after sunrise. Powerful. I went for the views, but might try for more cover if I get any hint of gusts next time.
