Primitive camping at the entrance of the forest. We planned to camp in the actual forest but it was closed due to high fire risk. This was our next choice.
Go to the Pilot fuel station and head West on the frontage road aka old Route 66.
Just flat ground no trees. Near the freeway so it's quite noisy.
Good place to sleep overnight. Just be careful of where you park. Lots of ants in the area.
Big rigs will fit here. Other campers near by.
Verizon has 4 bars.

A large field between the Pilot and the first forest road. No established sites, but there were a couple of RVs camped out here so it looks like camping here is ok. It's before the actual forest, so no trees in the field. Expect to hear highway noise unless you camp far enough back in the field.
Looks like it could get very muddy very quickly so keep the weather on mind. There was a Class A and a Class C further back than I camped so I'm guessing it wouldn't be too bad. Pretty flat field so pretty much anything should be able to get here.
Had three solid bars of 5G on Verizon while I was here. Can't comment on whether other carriers will have the same as I only have Verizon.
Report Check-InGreat place to stop for a quick overnight. Close to the highway but there is ample space for multiple rigs and nobody was here tonight. There is some highway noise but it's not terribly loud. The dirt is a bit soft but totally doable if you have 4WD just in case.
