Description

Beautiful area with rainbow mountains. No services, just nature, peace and silence. There is a lot of spots to wildcamp if you are ok sleeping at this altitude (I did it and is no fun)
Driving from Putre to here, half way are asphalted with potholes, the other half is ripio with severe washboards at some points but there is road workers at 3 sections so maybe this will improve in future. Last 12km are perfect ripio. The road is ok for any vehicle, just have in mind that there is some steep ascend involved (on asphalt and good ripio) no 4x4 or high clearance needed

Wonderful scenic drive to come here from Putre. Suriplaza is one of the best surprises of our trip. There are no hiking trails, àmake your own. In the morning, the lights and the colours are better on the NW. You can easily hike to the top of the Volcán Chricagua (5256m). In the afternoon, you can hike to Cerro Copatanca (5324m) or hike on it's left Side to have a wonderful view on Volcan Lexone (nice point of view : -17.858449,-69.438011)

Neat area with a nice variety of different landscapes when driving through. I think it’s probably worth the drive. I made a loop. From A-23 to here road conditions are great. If you continue on from here to the village of Cosapilla the road kinda sucks. The first km is really interesting contrast but from then on it’s not great.

If you are making a loop like I was I think it’s best to go back to Colpitas and make your way to A-93 near the Bolivian border. If you’re headed to Bolivia via Visviri then continue north as it’s not that bad just not worth detouring onto.
