Description

A great walk from Lago Tinquilco up to a series of small lakes. There's a couple of waterfalls and miradors as you hike up to the plateau. The small circuit passes Lago Chico, Lago Verde and Lago Toros (around 9km from this trailhead, or 12km if you start from the carpark at the park entrance), while the large circuit passes Laguna de los Patos and Laguna Huerquehue (13km/16km). The trail also connects through to Termas San Sebastián and Rio Blanco on the other side of the national park. Highly recommended, even in the pouring March rain! One caveat - we've heard it can be busy earlier in the season, and on weekends. When we visited in late March we saw around 10 other hikers. Also, the drive from the park entrance is quite bumpy - good clearance is needed! You can also park at the entrance and walk to the sendero from there - it's around 1.6km (update 2021: looks like cars are not allowed anymore to continue to the village, you have to park after the entrance)

10,000pp to enter park. Must buy ticket online. It is very difficult to do once you're here because of trees. You can stay overnight in parking lot for 20,000pp payable only in cash. The trail is in the woods with some views of the lakes. Huge old trees. The road to get to the park narrows, especially once inside the park. We managed to enter with our 11 ton truck but it was tight. We parked just after the entry building. We didn't think much of this park and the price to camp in a parking lot is nuts.

The trail is beautiful! Camping inside the national park is not possible anymore, apparently the camp site closed during the pandemic.

You have to register online before you arrive. So we had to turn back

We are two and only one of us have to register (they just write down you are two) and the lady asked me immediately if i have a Chilean RUT. So the entrance is 3600 pp if at least one of you have RUT.
Were told (at the entrence) that we we can do only Lago Toro, then back to intersection and Lago Verde and return. We decided to do the whole big circuit anyway (just one fallen tree on the trail) and we don't regret it. The most beautiful part begins after Lago Toro.

Price is now 7200 pp. Because of the covid situation, the camping is close and you can only go in for the day (for what we understand at this time, it could change, check on the conaf website).
The Los Lagos trek was nice, good view on Villarica volcano, it goes up to the first lake, with two waterfalls on the way and then you have to choose if you do the long or short path. Several lakes and lagunas around. They give you a map at the entrance and all infos you need.

We absolutely loved this national park. The drive here from Villarica was gorgeous as well. The entrance fee is still 7,000 Chilean pesos per person. So we decided to hike all the way to Laguna Verde from the Information Center, which took us about 4.5 hours round-trip (3.0 up and 1.5 down) stopping by 2 waterfalls and 2 miradores along the way. This was a moderate hike: a steady uphill climb to the Lagos, then mostly downhill to return. The weather this time of year was lovely and the scenic views throughout the trails gorgeous! A lot of people in the park today, we really recommend a visit if you're in the area or want a pleasant detour.

7000pp for one day in the park and only this hike was open. They told us we could see the volcano but not.
Really disappointed walk along lakes. Nice but really do not worth this price at all.

Nice hike to the lakes, two waterfalls along the way as well. Price is now 7,000pp.

The los lagos trail of the Huerquehue national park is very nice. There's quite a bit of climbing involved and therefore it's considered a medium difficulty (and medium-hard for us). The end of the trail is not as impressive, though, as some of the views along the way, but only the first 7km were open for hiking at the time so maybe the rest is even more impressive. If the rest is still closed and you're too tired, you wouldn't miss much if you stop after the second Mirador. A GPS tracking map of the way back is attached. The trail is about 7km in each direction (a total of 14km) and the hike should take 3 hours there and 2 hours back (or 4.5 and 3 for us couch-potatoes :P).

very magic walk to the lakes. although it was a completely rainy day and it was a very muddy walk, we still loved it. the lakes are very romantic. it took us around 6 hours for the whole sendero - with some breaks ;-)
