Short distance from RN40, coming from south, turn to left and drive inwards towards abandoned house. there are two stone hills and a long black lava wall which could offer a bit of wind protection, depending on the wind direction.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
If the wind is coming from the north, not much good wind protection in a roof top tent. The flat area is slightly visible from the street, the more hidden area is not level. No issues, clean, beautiful scenery.
Report Check-InWe arrived at night, the abandonned house was a little bit creepy. But we had a peaceful night with a sky full of stars. Good wind protection. Didn’t see any insects or else. We recommand for a stop on the road between San Martin and Mendoza
Report Check-InReally great camp for cyclists too! If you turn left and keep walking after you get to the spot for cars you’ll find OP’s ‘caves’ in the lava wall. A few recesses, one big enough for the bug net of our three person tent. We were going to camp without the tent but the dung beetles are active at night and we didn’t fancy one crawling over our faces. But aside from that, perfect camp, no wind when you’re tucked up against the lava wall. Shade in the afternoon and in the morning. Silent. Bliss!
Report Check-InReally nice spot to stay for night - we did climb the hill in early morning for nice views over the lava and our camping site!
Report Check-InGood spot for a night next to an abandoned house. Not visible from the road and no noise. Beautiful starry sky at night. Just be careful 2WD when entering the dirt road leading to the spot.
Super spot pour une nuit à côté d'une maison abonnée. Pas visible de la route et pas de bruit. Un ciel magnifique la nuit. Attention, pour le 2WD, l'entrée du chemin n'est pas terrible.
Report Check-InOnly a one star hotel for us but that was because of cloud cover ;). A truly spectacular spot and so nice to find no litter or other signs of human activity. We would suggest even making a fire would scar the fragile environment unless you bring your own wood and take out all your ash…

Report Check-Inmagical place! No noise and wind free. We walked around te big rock to select the spot where we could go with the 4x4 camper.
Report Check-InGreat remote spot along HW 40, amazing views! Well protected and hidden from the road
Report Check-InBest place ever! A billon stars hotel. Totally wind protected. No facilities, easy to find the access once you see the little abandoned house. Totally flat surface and quite hidden from the road.
Report Check-InThank you for sharing this place it is really great, quiet, hide from the road and the wind shelter thanks to the lava rocks. I recommend
merci d'avoir partagé cet endroit il est vraiment super, tranquille, cacher de la route et à l'abris du vent grâce aux rochers de lave. Je recommande
Report Check-InBeautiful hidden spot next to a former lava stream. Very quiet, magical nightsky.
Report Check-InGreat spot with plenty of wind shelter when you drive past the ruined house and keep going to the opening between the two small hills.
Report Check-InBeautiful spot, thanks for sharing! All in all there is space for 4 or 5 Vans or tents, each with some privacy. Some have a perfect view but are visible from the road, others vice versa. Not exactly level though. No water access! And: bring nobite - evil horse flies around.
Report Check-InWe loved this place! it was a nice break in the day after riding the motos on the ripio. we were able to get them easily back to the spot between the lava walls. we hiked around the back of the rock hill and into the amazing lava field. when we walked through the lava field, we saw an animal that had long ears like a rabbit, but a long bushy tail--if you're quiet, you may see it high up on the sandstone hill.
it was SO QUIET here! there were approximately 1 billion stars out at night--beautiful! thank you for this perfect spot!
Report Check-InA quiet spot with good wind protection, but without water access. The access to the spot is a small side road to a abandoned house about 200m north of marked spot. We used the house with roof and table for wind free cooking.
Report Check-Innice distance from the street, coming from south turn in left and drive inwards, easy access. there are two stone hills and a long black lava wall, all these give fair wind protection and in the lava formation is a sweet spot for making a fire like a really small cave. also the plants that grow here smell amazig. throw a few dried ones into your fire!
