This is NOT BLM land! It is private property which has been invaded by homeless camps. I had a long conversation with a local landowner who explained that the website postings are in error. They frequently put up No Trespassing signs and the homeless take them down. The locals do not have a good way to get rid of them. My husband and I stayed one time, thinking it felt unsavory there. The second time we were stuck for a place to stay so we went but were told by the local resident that none of the places on ioverlander along the dirt roads are blm land. He said that if you literally go overland, with no roads, several miles east beneath the craggy low mountains it is blm over there. But people go out and shoot and make it inhospitable there as well. Do not invade these peoples neighborhoods, they are having a bad time of it.

When we first got here we drove into the dry lake bed area but didn’t stay there and found a spot off Sunflower Rd instead. The roads in were deeply rutted and a bit muddy from recent rain. When we made it into the dry lake bed we happened to park on top of a large pile of hundreds of nails, metal pieces and broken glass which were all half way buried into the sand so couldn’t be seen while driving. We headed out to leave, but being late afternoon we noticed a large, flat flat spot off Sunflower Rd. and chose to just stay there. There was broken glass and some trash in that spot as well but avoidable when pulling in. It was a quiet night and we slept well. It’s really just the proximity to Joshua Tree, the surrounding conveniences and that it’s free that made this an option. Our next time in the area we will look at other places or stay at one of the Nat’l Park Campgrounds.

Peaceful night. A friendly guy near us came over in the morning with his dog and informed us this is his private property, didn’t really even ask us to move, but we humored him. He claims the BLM land begins beyond the telephone poles just to the North of here.

Report Check-In

Pretty run down, lots of trashy abandoned rigs and homeless car campers. Roads are terrible with tons of deep ruts and washboard. Better off making reservations to stay in the park.

very camping. such disperse. much BLM. wow.

Report Check-In

Good spot for a night, lots of other rigs, many seem permanent. lots of trash, zero privacy but such a large area that it doesn't really matter.

Report Check-In

Huge open land, plenty of space for everyone to camp

Report Check-In

Nice flat land plenty of open space. Beautiful sunset. Not far from the park and not many people here. Would stay here again

Report Check-In

Great spot for a quick night. Many other campers were in the area. Solid views at sunset.

Report Check-In

Were here for a night, lots of places to park your car and put up a tent. Other campers were there, some also seemed to live here, but we felt safe here and no one approached us. Quite windy in the evening but the wind stilled over night. Overall good place to stay for a night (or two).

Report Check-In

Plenty of wide open space to exist peacefully and quietly. Other campers there in April but still spacious. Good cell service. Restful night.

Report Check-In

Rough road, dusty, but quite. You can start account the stars.

Report Check-In

Good simple spot, road was fine with RWD but the bumps are a pain depending on speed and suspension
