Description

The Texaco gas station on the north end of town is a truck stop. They have showers (only $7 for a warm, private, unlimited shower, towels included!) and other trucker amenities, including overnight parking.

When I asked the attendant inside if they allow overnight RV/camper parking, she said it’s normally just truckers but if there was space, she didn’t see why vans/RVs couldn’t stay too. This place has tons of space, including a mostly-empty quieter dirt lot behind the paved truck lot. I can’t imagine this place filling up.

I spent the night with no issues. Some sirens and barking dogs, but none of the train whistles that plague the Walmart parking lot in town. I ran a white noise app on my phone and slept great.

Close enough for day trips to White Sands.

There’s a restaurant inside that used to be 24/7 but closes from 10pm-6am during Covid times. Google reviews say it’s good, I didn’t eat there.

Latest Check-Ins

Large dirt lot behind Texaco truck parking lot. HUGE Potholes ! 8’ In diameter, some Very deep, Laid out all over the lot. Arrived at night, was sketchy. Lots of garbage at back. Only staying one night so it will have to do. Haven’t gone into store yet so no info there.

Report Check-In

Have asked in the gas station if we can stay one night. We were told that we may stay one night but not longer, because some other's settle there. Very quiet night experienced. We stood at the back of other trucks in the corner near a wall. By no means the worst place to sleep one night.

Report Check-In

Convenient location, between truckers, diesel smell and generator noise make for vivid dreams.

update after spending the night here:

men's bathroom 8/10
men's bathroom is pretty clean, like I have seen better, but I have seen waaaay worse, and I didn't feel like I was gonna catch something from just walking in there.
they have a little hand sanitizer dispenser type thing above every toilet full of stuff for cleaning the seat. much better than the old paper seat covers.

cheap biscuits
cold 3/10
hot 8/10
the $1.05 sausage biscuits are decent cold, if you're starving and exhausted like I was last night. but look for the microwave, trust me. 30-45 seconds makes a huuuuge difference. when hot they are moist, taste 10x as good, and you won't endnup with a beard, lap, and vehicle full of biscuit crumbs lol seriously, warm it up.

the price to do laundry isn't too bad, but it looked like each machine that was working had a different price?
about $1.25 - $2.50ish
I didn't do laundry, so not sure how well they work.

staff was as friendly and helpful today as the guys from last night

showers $12? naw, I got wipes and a camp shower

*** SUNDAYS ***
maintenance 10/10
here's a big one.
6am: the maintenance guy shows up, and starts with a gas powered leaf blower.
I'll admit that I was pretty unhappy for a couple minutes, but then I realized what time it qas, and that my alarm hadn't gone off, and he had saved me.
when he realized I had been asleep in my SUV he came right over and apologized. he found it funny that I was happy he had woken me up.
I told him I would be mentioning the free 6am wakeup call in my post and he laughed.
he seems like a really nice guy.
so if you are in the area on a Saturday night, and need a 6am wakeup call, this is the place to park.

overall I would give this spot a pretty solid 8/10
the maintenance guy makes up for the overpriced showers

maaaan I just spent 10min writing stuff for it to not post...

basic info:
sausage biscuit = $1.05 tastes decent and a good size with a solid bit of meat.

park in the main park lot off to the side if not in a semi. Definitely do not park between or right next to semis.

do not drink in the showers or you will get banned from here.

showers are now $12

Report Check-In

The price for showers are now $10. The area had parking for camper vans.

Report Check-In

+1 for showers, stayed the night, fairly quiet out in the dirt lot. NAPA behind the station is handy too. Breakfast burritos from the cafe are delicious as well. Sorry about my alarm Ford Connect. Working on an issue lol

Good spot for a quick stop, friendly staff.
