As of March 2021 there are government operations underway in the area to the north of Loruk, as well as the Eastern shore of Lake Baringo on the road from Loruk up to Laikipia (Maralal). They are trying to clear up bandit activity and as such the area is currently not safe - if heading up to Laikipia, take the road running between Lakes Baringo and Bogoria instead.
