This is a site through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commision. It is free and beautiful. You are supposed to go online and get a free permit before staying. There are two campgrounds- the Hammock is shaded and the other campground is an open field. Easy in and out - right off the road but quiet. We saw a ton of birds (even a few resident owls), cows, and alligators.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
a true gem, only place I know in Florida where same day reservation is possible. Totally free, fits RV and tents. fire ring in each spot. not a lot of mosquitoes. very few people when I was there. A lot of animal activity during the night (racoons, opposums, squirrel etc)
Report Check-InThis location has both an open field camping area and a hammock camping area which provides shade. Camping is free but requires online registration. Road noise is minimal. No water , electric, or other services are provided.
My Verizon phone is receiving 3G service.

On my visit Friday night four other sites were taken and the place was silent. Decent Verizon signal. Lots of signs advising no trash facilities and the campground was spotless. Easy short gravel entrance road.
Report Check-InTie your small children down, or the mosquitos will carry them off! Great little primitive campsite besides that.
Report Check-InStayed in site 6 of hammock camp in rooftop tent. It is free with registration. Be ready for a bug onslaught at night. Pit toilet close by.
Report Check-InGood as others have said. Be prepared that you may have hunters running their generator all hours, blaring country music and smoking cigars in your camp. They like to “spread out” and take any open space, so have your registration handy. Normal yippy dogs and screaming teenagers on weekends. On another note, had a bear visit at night and there are big cats around (panthers, bobcats). Other wise, it’s a great spot to get off the road for a few days/week. Just be sure to get a permit, don’t leave food out and try to have some patience on weekends.
Report Check-InBeautiful little campground! We stayed in the hammock with our 34’ skoolie with no problem.
Report Check-InSpent several days at the Hammock camp over Christmas of ‘21. Big field adjacent is wide open and will take any rig, a few sites in the trees will take bigger rigs but the turn for the loop in the back is a bit tight but no problem for my high top van. No water, garbage or picnic tables just a fire ring and a single vault toilet. Quiet except the birds and some nearby cows. Some road noise from nearby county hwy. 1 bar of Verizon boosted to 3 bars of 4g lte. Free ( register online) and peaceful.
Report Check-InEasy online registration. Camped at Hammock Camp. 17 oak and palm tree shaded sites. One vault toilet at ADA site. 2 bars of Verizon and AT&T. Quiet peaceful.
