First let me say the ride up to the range is so beautiful, even if you’re not planning to stay at the range just the drive up and down is worth it.

I do recommend to have a 4x4 high clearance for a few sections on the road. Also you will see a couple of places along the way where you can choose a small detour. One being significantly easier than the other.

Amazing how thy built the range so high up in the mountains at the time, imagining the number of trucks having to haul all the materials up the mountain. The worker’s told me the road from the Coyote range was used in the past before the new road up from hwy 3 was made.

So cute how the 6 dogs hear you coming from a mile away and anxiously wait for you at the top of the hill to welcome you. I did not stay at the range but they told me I could camp up the river.

Muchas gracias.

I have been there since the owner Mike Leon was there and took care of the ranch for families camping, now the ranch and the stream up to the waterfall has been neglected and a lot of trash which before Mike Leon Sr. would keep very clean. It is still a beautiful place, but son Mike and daughter Claudia need to focus on also maintaining for families not just off-road racers. I camped up stream and there was no charge,

I have been to Mike's many times before on a xr450 and a awd lifted f150. I have driven all over Baja, including helping pit teams during several races. I know the road to Mike's well and consider myself to have above average off road driving abilities.

We made it up and back in a front wheel drive Promaster with AT tires but we were absolutely pushing it.

I thought it would be a good idea to show my wife Mike's in our van. The first 2/3rds of the road is fine but as you get to the steeper sections, things get a little hairy clearance and traction wise without 4x4.

Once we hit the highest part of the road and started descending into the valley where Mike's is, I was very concerned about how we would get out the next day with front wheel drive.

We made it and I was proud but my wife was not impressed with her into to offroading in Baja and the van took a bit of a beating.

You can make it in a van but you need to know what you're doing. Make sure that when you start going down hill, that you know for sure you can get back up on the way out.

Otherwise, get a dirt bike and have a great ride in.

Great family run ranch in a very remote location. BMW F800 accessed it pretty easily from Mex 3. Was intent on going through Coyote when I left but Mike advised me to go back out the way I came in as I was traveling solo and it gets pretty hairy.
