SOAT La Positiva / MAPFRE Jaen | Vehicle Insurance

I arrived to Peru yesterday on a motorcycle. I sent a WhatsApp message about an hour before I arrived to Jaen. They responded immediately and asked to provide a photo of my passport, vehicle document, and import document from aduana.

She quoted S/130 for one month, S/230 for two months, and S/304 for three months.

When I arrived, I had to wait about 15 for her to your type in information. She did not ask for additional documents.

I paid and she gave me a printed copy of my SOAT.

It turned out to be much quicker and easier then I expected, based on other comments I've read.

Great experienced. We WhatsApped them at 3 pm and sent photos of TIP, vehicle title, owner’s passport. At 6 pm we arrived, 10 minutes and ready! Got the scan of SOAT on the email as well :)

As mentioned in the comment below you can still contact them via WhatsApp to prepare everything for you. Worked perfectly well, just waited for some 20' to get the insurance. 2 months, 80 S/ for a Toyota Prado.

Picked up our SOAT here today, if you come from La Balsa where you can’t get a SOAT and you don’t want to wait 2 days to get one, send them your docs via WhatsApp a few days before crossing the border and then send the Aduana stamped TIP as soon as you cross… by the time you get here you will be ready for payment and your SOAT will be emailed to you a few hours later… saves spending 2 days in Jaen…

Drove directly here from the border. Started the application process at 2pm. Was told we would receive it the next day between 4-5pm. But we actually received it at 6pm on the same day. Very nice! SOAT lady also very nice and patient.

This seems to be the only office in Jaen that can issue insurance to foreigners. They used to be able to issue insurance right away, but the lady is telling us that now it takes 2 days. Since the pandemic, all policies are completed in the larger cities. We arrived at the office at 8am on Wednesday and we will get our insurance documents on Thursday at 4:00. The price is $279sol for three months (2018 Mercedes sprinter 170 extended). The office is right on the main highway with easy parking... even for bigger rigs.

For my motorcycle it’s 200 soles which is about $60 usd for 2 months! Was pricey, not as bad as Mexico. Easy to find just off the main road, another place I tried (recommended by a local) didn’t do tourist insurance. I figure from everything I read about other motorcycles soat that this price is average. Took about 20 minutes for one, no one was before us when we arrived. It did Not take HOURS!! Like other had said, and can pay at the location Not at a bank! Just come here, if you wanna get it done fast and efficient.

THE BEST PLACE TO GET SOAT - Almost overlooked this one- 1 Month SOAT for a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport for 51Sol, parking outside, walked straight in and only took half an hour.

We were initially nervous about going as far as Jaen without a SOAT, but didn’t have a choice- we did get a police stop and just explained it was our only option. They were quite happy with this and let us pass.

We crossed the border at la Balsa and Aduana said go to Jaen to get insurance. We went to the fancy mapfre store that charges 45S per month per car. They charge 245S for one month for a motorcycle because motorcycles are more dangerous. This place does 1 month for a motorcycle for 100S.

Got SOAT for a sedan for two months for 52soles, 15us. Canadian car. The lady was really nice, was only passing to get something on a Sunday but did the paperwork for us anyway.

We got a La Positiva SOAT for our Brazilian Kombi after showing our old expired one. Price was 97Sol/30USD for one month. Went there on a Saturday morning and called her number so she even opened the shop earlier for us after waiting for 10 minutes. Phone number: 994408208
