The Longmire Stewardship Campground is not a public campground. Do not attempt to camp here as it is reserved ONLY for Nisqually Tribal Members, Mount Rainier National Park seasonal residents, and official volunteers doing work in the park. The campground has a full-time manager on site, and you will be asked to leave day or night if you attempt to camp here.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
This is the Longmire Stewardship Campground Manager. Please do not attempt to camp in this campground. It is NOT a public campground. It is reserved ONLY for three groups: 1. Nisqually Indian Tribal Members in their designated use area; 2. Seasonal employees of the Mount Rainier National Park; and 3. Volunteers who are doing official volunteer work in the park. All sites are reserved, and if you do attempt to camp here, you will be asked to leave - day or night. There is dispersed camping in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest just outside of Mount Rainier National Park. However, you cannot get there by using Forest Service Road 012 as there is a non-public, LOCKED GATE at the national park boundary! Thank you!
Report Check-InThis campground is NOT open to the public. A ranger confirmed this today. They will kick you out if you are caught. Currently there are no signs saying it isn't open to public (but also no signs directing people to it). It was closed to public in 1989. Too bad because it is a nice camp area and the park could use more sites after Sunshine Pt washed away in 2006, Also, some maps may show a drive-in entrance to the park through the campground. That entrance is gated and also not open to the public.
Report Check-InI tried to stay here during July and asked other campers if it was free to camp- they said that it was a campground for volunteers of the park (although there weren't any signs). A park ranger later confirmed this. I would not recommend staying here. Not sure if it is available to the public during the off-season, but I would not plan to stay here.
Report Check-InDrove in and got a talking to from the campground host. He said the campground is for park volunteers only.
Report Check-InJust behind the Inn, in the forest next to the river. Stayed here early November when the Paradise gate was closed. Found it on the Dyrt app. No reviews and no one was here. Too dark now to elaborate but looks beautiful
