Rustic RV park and campground with a pretty 2nd-growth redwood setting off US 101 about a mile north of the start of Avenue of the Giants. Best value given that overnight boondocking on the Avenue’s pullouts is technically illegal (state park rules), if sometimes tolerated.
Some sites are wooded, others are on a meadow circled around a 1500-year-old redwood stump. Rent the cabins in a redwood stump, or park your tent under 80 year old redwoods.
It’s old, but everything works, and it’s only $35 (online booking) in high season for electric and water hookups, restrooms with free showers, access to propane, on-site laundry and a dump station. Playground with a couple slides and a basketball hoop for kids. Lots of blackberries surround the property. Owned by a church group that uses it for their annual revival retreat; the caretakers are characters, but everyone was nice to us as we were nice to them. Surprisingly not full last-minute on a weekend in August when everywhere else was sold out. I don’t think they market it very hard.
Great Verizon service. Can barely hear the highway when outside. You can book online up to the last minute.
You won’t find luxury coaches here, but it’s a hidden gem for value. The redwoods setting is much more pleasant and relaxed than the other more expensive private RV parks in the region.
Our only complaint was one camper smoking weed outside in the evenings. (It’s legal in CA)
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Really lovely campground. $20 for a tent site (i used roof top tent). Great Verizon and AT&T signal in my spot (#1).
Report Check-InA really nice chill spot with everything you need for an overnight even if it's a little worn and tatty. 30A power and water at site and a dump on the way out. Hot shower. Wifi is being "repaired". No ATT at the office but 4 bars at site. We paid the Passport America rate $16 cash for a 22 foot motorhome.
Report Check-InOn our way to somewhere else, this place was a perfect respite. Water and electricity at the RV sites, pull-thru. Great for small rigs. There’s laundry. Showers, dumpster, and a dump station. Priced for those on a budget. No nonsense staff. Be nice and respectful, you get just that in return. Would go back.
Report Check-In$10 a night for a tent site that I stayed at in my campervan! Free showers, cheap laundry, bathrooms and the cleanest portapottys I've ever been in??? I spent two nights here. Really quiet (except you can hear the highway sometimes, but it's not overwhelming). The tent sites have so much shade. Plenty of level spots, very few people here. Come in person and it's cheaper than their online reservation system. The old man at the office got mad at me for driving in "too fast" so really slow down to 5mph if you don't want that conversation. Sometimes they have conferences so check their website for availability.
It does feel a little run down, but mostly I feel like I can really tell the care the owners put into this place, working with what they have. I've stayed in national parks that are in worse condition. All the showers and laundry machines are in working condition! There's a sign that warns of discoloration from high iron content in water but my clothes came out just fine.
Also, in Google maps it will come up as Avenue of the Giants Stafford RV Park. FYI.
Okay version and decent ATT.
Report Check-InPlenty of room, friendly staff, and it got the job done but this wasn’t my favorite campground. It was just super run down. The bathrooms were really dirty and they didn’t have hand soap. Usually this wouldn’t bother me that much but for $35/night I had hoped for more.
