Beware of soft sand past the first pull out on your right! 4x4 is definitely necessary to get out (and even then, a fellow camper with 4x4 got stuck in a nearby spot)
A few level and large sites next to some boulders off of Kelbaker Rd and not far from I-40. Fire rings, strong cell service. Beautiful views of the mountains during sunrise and sunset. I would highly recommend.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
As previously reported a real little gem. Very hot this time of year during the day but absolutely perfect just before sunset.
Thanks to the previous posters regarding lose sand. I stopped with my FWD truck and 13ft camper at the second pullout the left. (First on the right was taken). The left pullout also seemed ok. But I agree anything after is risky with a big rig. Can’t turn around, sand gets lose and the road gets rough requiring 4x4 and high clearance.
It is worth hiking a bit down the road at sunset.
Report Check-InIf you don’t have 4x4 (and even if you do) consider NOT going past the first pull-out next to the boulders. The sand is deceivingly soft! After reading the reviews on here that said the sand was packed by the boulders, I thought I’d be OK in my FWD promaster, but I managed to find quite a lot of soft sand and had to call my insurance/roadside assistance for a winch out tow on a Sunday 😬 (In the pic I’ve attached, all the sand in front of the van looked packed. As you can see, it wasn’t 🙃). Thankfully, there’s another vanlifer out here who helped me dig out some of the sand to make the winch out easier, but STILL. Not worth the hassle when there are spots with more packed sand nearby. Be cautious and make sure to hop out and check the sand where you’re thinking of parking or at least come prepared with tools to get yourself out!
Report Check-InVery nice spot among a couple of boulders. Close to the highway. 2 other campers, but very quiet. Beautiful sunset.
Report Check-InA great little spot off Kelbaker Rd and not too far from I-40. No one else around and very quiet. Some really nice rocks to tuck away in and beautiful scenery. A lovely spot! Also hard packed dirt as you drive in and turn-around for larger rigs.
Report Check-InNice spot on the preserve. It's always nice to stay in spots like these over other desert spots because there is noticeably less trash. Please keep it that way!
Report Check-InNice spot right off the road. Careful my Garmin wanted us to pass first turn approximately 9 miles up the road. We listened to gps and road was washed out had turn back.
Report Check-InFound a fairly level spot between several large boulders for my 33' travel trailer. It was a snug turnaround but it fit and was great for the night. Amazing night sky views! Great cell coverage (T-mobile)
Report Check-InStayed one night without any issues. Several rigs hidden in the boulders so we stayed in a large pull out off the road. Part of the dirt road in uneven, but suitable for most rigs. No amenities. Good cell service on ATT. FREE!
Report Check-InGreat spot! Flat road in with a couple of different camping spots. Great cell service. Highly recommend
Report Check-InGorgeous place, easy to get to in my Transit. You can see the 40, but it's quiet.
Report Check-InBeautiful spot. There’s a couple other spots around here, too. Although the smoothest part of the road goes to this spot. Two bars AT&T lte.
Report Check-Inperfect. a beautiful remote spot with a marvelous view. i would highly recommend this spot. very east to find too. very quiet and right off the i40
Report Check-InBeautiful spot tucked in the boulders. Incredible views. Full bars fast LTE.
Please properly dispose of human waste, and pack out your toilet paper. It’s kinda a poop bomb around here.
Report Check-InSouthside of the boulders about 1/4 mile off of Kelbaker Rd. Rock fire pit and clean. Road gets very sandy if you proceed past the first spot.
Report Check-InThis is one of my favorite iOverlander spots! It is the most gorgeous landscape and has full Verizon service. Behind the boulders there isn't a whisper of road noise. it is easy to get to and has a hard packed, relatively level ground. no problem for our 21 ft RV. great place for us and our dog to hike. fire ring. and best of all, free!
Report Check-InMade it to this beautiful location in my converted van just as the sun was setting. Got to take the pup for a walk around the area, which felt very safe. Not noisy at all and was able to work remotely the next day with pretty good service. Only one other camper stayed the night and left early in the morning. I would definitely recommend!
