Description
Simple refugio with space for plenty of people on the floor and a big firepit in the centre. Pit toilet around the back. Nothing fancy, but would be a great escape from bad weather. I didn't stay the night, just stopped for lunch.
Note for anyone going over the border at Paso El León: much of this trail is currently EXTREMELY wet and muddy, so although it's an otherwise easy route it takes quite a bit longer than you'd expect. Although Cochamo is spectacular in general, the trail is also not very exciting to hike as you're almost always under tree canopy and therefore don't see much. I was scouting this route to potentially bikepack it, but it definitely would not be any fun at all for that purpose.
