Another nice campsite at Playa Tenacatita with more privacy than at the main beach. For the weekend we moved across a hill on a small dirt road at the southern end of the beach to the next little bay. There is no music and space for only 5-6 cars. In the bay, you find some corals and tropical fish which makes good snorkeling.

Road to the beach was a bit rough at the end but nothing prohibitive. The cop car was still there but it looked broken down like it hadn’t moved in a while. The trail to the mirador was fenced off but not very well as it was pretty easy to get around. There were a lot of mosquitos once the sun set but they chilled out when it got dark. Quite a few campers there but everyone was friendly.

Road to get there pretty bumpy and steep, Right now someone rent umbrella and table for 200 pesos and snorkel equipment for 50. We were there on Thursday night, a group of 7 locals camp with tents where not loud and all was quiet. In the morning we snorkel,on the coral rif, beautiful colourful fish, at least we spot 20 kind from 1 inch to 10 inch log . Couple of small boats bring people to snorkel . Is incredible how quiet was, when we drive out on the other side of the hill much more chaos with restaurant pay toilet and tons of gringos.

The police car is still there- serve & protect
Seems the owner has mighty friends …. :D

It is private property but no worries there are plenty nice places in the bay

We tried to go to this site, however the road was blocked by a police car so we turned around. Not sure if this was a temporary or a permanent blockage.

Many people bumping into each other in the daytime. Though it is a beautiful beach, overnight camping is not for everyone. One night a group of about 10 motorcycles came in and reved around for about an hour before parking and having a long loud party at the beach tables, leaving their trash behind, and the next night at about midnight, three cars of two guys each met up, got out, used a table and we could see them emptying bags and inspecting the contents under a flashlight. We're not sure but we think money was exchanged. Later a couple pulled in, played loud music from their car all night and burned something from their campfire that we smelled like burning plastic but may have been more like something like meth from the way they were laughing. There is a lot of raccoon and human poo in the bushes so it is not exactly dog friendly. Also we have been told and warned that anything not on the sand, which includes the side roads, is private property and the intention of the owners is to keep it closed to the public, which is why the road is in such terrible shape.

Tres bel endroit, accesduble uniquement en voiture ou fourgons 4x4 . Malheureusement, des papiers toilettes partout.

Beautiful spot, with beautiful views of the ocean. I used to come here often when I was younger to snorkel and couldn't wait to camp here with my van. It gets busy during the day, but there was only us and another vanlifer at night. Super quiet and relaxing. If you get lucky, there's a single camping spot on top of the overlook. No bathrooms or trash can.

Very crowded in the daytime and no parking. We did get familiar with the area and some locals and the roads and anything not on the sand is private property for sure, and is monitored, as there is a land dispute between two parties that is very ugly and complicated.

Lugar super recomendado.
no cobran entrada, y no cobran para acampar.
nota: si acampan en el camino que va hacia arriba, tendrán privacidad total y una vista privilegiada 😁👌

We stayed here 13 years ago and were amazed at how we could see beautiful colored fish right from the shore. We were saddened to see all the dead coral on the beach now and abandoned houses but it is still quite magical.
We had both beaches to ourselves after the day trippers left.
We had an extra plastic bag so cleaned up some of the garbage in the bushes but it was generally quite clean. A man rents tables/ chairs and umbrellas and generously took the bag of beach trash with him.
There’s no facilities at all so please take your garbage with you. Let’s keep this beach clean and beautiful for everyone.

A hurricane has filled in the isthmus with fine grain sand which will sink all but the lightest of vehicles. Park along the road straight out to the beach. Sundays are the busiest day of the week but not that crowded and not that noisy. Cheerful families avoiding the crowds. Mondays the restaurants on the main beach are closed. Tuesday through Sunday you can call Ivan who will deliver food and drink on his motorcycle from his restaurant 317 109 1863
Be aware the land is in legal dispute and friendly security guards are on patrol. You are allowed on the beaches and the roads but don’t wander into the land behind the beach. There are no signs. I walked my dog and they explained this to me. Not a hassle I stress.

Beautiful spot not at the main beach. Perfect for sunsets and sunrises. I walked up to the top for sunrise and it was great. The beaches are a bit rockier but they were smooth. No one drove by at night. Windows wide open

Very good stay for one or two nights. Nobody bothers you, and still 24 hours private security. Restaurant and Snack bar available if you wish. Good for swimming and walking along the beach.

Ideal place for snorkeling, to see the pelicans passed over your head, to hear and see the raccoon wandering at night, fishing, looking for original shells, swimming and free and safe. 5 nights here with beautiful sunrises and sunset.

We stayed here 4 nights and could have stayed longer, it was that good! We camped over the hill away from the main beach and still had two other beach options to enjoy. We were able to back our 2WD van right up to the coral beach and enjoy the most incredible snorkelling here! The weekend was busy but weekdays everyone left by the evening. The main beach has several restaurants and bars set up on the sand. There are bucket flush toilets available for 10 pesos. Telcel phone service worked well. The whole area is very safe, it has 24/7 security guards. We found out this was due to a history of land disputes accompanied by an invasion and destruction of the area (you may notice the numerous abandoned homes and hotels). All in all, great spot. Highly recommend!
