Description

State Park campground. $15 for primitive camping, more for your rig. Don't expect scenery like Yosemite, but it's a pretty park given it's location.

CALL AHEAD to reserve a site and get the gate code, you will need it after hours

Park out in the middle of nowhere, Texas. There were no plug in sites left, so we got a primitive site. $10 + $4 for each person entrance fee for the park. Call ahead. Clean.

If you have no other choice you can stop here. We were in the Isabel Harte loop, the women's restroom had two seats but no door or lock for the main door? I've never seen that. Otherwise it was quiet and the grounds are level enough for vans

Very pleased. Was looking for a tent site because, in my van, I don’t need water or electric. But I got there at 7:30 and I just couldn’t find that section of the park. So I camped at a elec/water site - number 5 - and was very happy. Very quiet. And free hot showers, flush toilets. Next day I explained to ranger that I couldn’t find the tent sites and so I parked at an RV site and didn’t use any elec and water so I only paid $14. The place was very empty.

Everybody at this state park has bad gas I can smell it.

Not sure why this place is getting hate! It's a great spot when you remember it's in the middle of flat, oil country, west Texas. Pretty little river and the campsites were private
IF YOU GO: Call ahead an reserve a site on the phone! They will give you the gate code. The park closes at 5 and you will need this code! If they put you in River Bend, that has a seperate entrance and there is a gate with a padlock. The code will be the same. If I didn't call ahead it would have been a very confusing night

Typical StTe Park camping. We stayed in Bald Eagle Loop on the north side. We did not read the registration email, so did not know the gate code (closed in winter) was in the email. Bathrooms were clean and the showers were hot.

tent camping is $14/night. there are two areas to camp. the south entrance on the lake is more deserty the north entrance on the "river" (small stream) is more park-like with large shade trees and green grass. people are complaining it's not worth it but there is a free very hot shower with unlimited time. there are oddly few bathrooms and water spigots overall for a campground. no mosquitoes or biting bugs yet as of June 1st 2021. was able to sleep windows down in the car. very spread out. bikes would be good. north and south entrance are NOT connected. know where you need to go, as they are 10 miles apart. if you reserve online you will get a gate code in your email for when the gates lock in the evenings.

Would agree with the other reviews - not the best park I’ve stayed at, but still alright! The one hiccup we had was the gate locks at 10pm. (& we had gone into town & returned after 10pm...)

We paid $28, $20 for the site and $4 per person as an entry fee. We weren't really impressed, honestly. It was expensive for what it is. Went on a couple of the hiking trails and they just went along the road, and the scenery isn't great. Next night we went to the KOA in town and it had laundry and a pool for $4 more.

Report Check-In

Very disappointed with this Park. Ugly, barren landscape, no trees. Nice staff, but not really worth a stop. $10 for a 'primitive' camp spot (no hook up, $20 for full hook-up) plus entry fee if you don't have a State Parks pass (I think $5-6pp)
