Safe campground, clean toilets, friendly staff, perfect after visiting the Big Hole. 70 for car, 50 pp. UPDATE April 2022…did not feel safe at all, and chose not to overnight. It appears that it is becoming an informal settlement with a lot of long-term residents.

Please note, this isn’t a regular campground. Lots of people live here permanentely. There is no such thing as private ablutions. There are 2 ablution facilities, one being too dirty to use (this is the one the residents use) and one for overnight stayers, unfortunately without any water.

There is a mosque very closeby so the prayers can be heard all day.

This whole place felt a bit sketchy to us. One of the inhabitants mentioned to us that Kimberley is dangerous. Lots of robberies happen. He also mentioned that street children will come at night to get water from the tabs at the campground. There is no gate or security.

We unfortunately arrived pretty late and had no other options in town. If you do have options it might be better to pay a little more and stay at the other option in town or find a campground further away from the city.

We paid 200 rand for 2 people. 60pppn and 80 for the car.

Nice overnight stop with clean private ablution
Give away at R200

Report Check-In

This place must have gone downhill since the last campers stayed here. We pulled in and immediately left. We did not feel safe and the campground was very dumpy. It looked like some of the mine workers might be living there now long-term. We also weren‘t feeling particularly safe pulled over to the side of the road right outside the camp trying to come up with a Plan B. The campsite was also muddy everywhere, but that‘s just a temporary thing. Hopefully the current status of it is too.

never nobody should stay here a dump cant believe its recomended stayaway not even for free

Report Check-In

Probably not the typical SA campsite … yet still very pleasant, lots of space, trees, friendly and welcoming owner, modern and very clean private toilet/shower, water and electricity
R80/vehicle, R60/pp, ie 200/night for 2pers … much cheaper than the communal Open Mine Caravan Park, where the charge would have been R365

Had a great stopover here. Enjoyed myself with the very cute cats and dogs. Very hospitable owners.
