Description

This new campsite is run by Gilmar and Tamara. This lovely couple lives close to the campsite with their 3 kids.

After Vineyard Thonningii (in iOverlander called The Vineyard Restcamp) the campsite is about 1.8km to Grootfontein on your left. Cross the railway and keep right. In 100m you see a small fence. Drive through. On your left you see the vineyard. After the vineyard is the campsite. If no one is there drive further to the farm of the owners. You can call them or email them on: 0810416083 or 0811612229 or [email protected]

They have a very nice campsite with a stunning view over the vineyard! Each campsite has its own braai, potable water, kitchen block, electricity, lamp, big shelter and picnic table. Perfect! The ablutions are spotless. And there are hot showers. We love the colors! They have two self-catering lodges for rent. Also with a beautiful view over the vineyard. You can do a wine tasting at the Wynkelder from their neighbours. That vineyard is from Gilmars parents and it's called Thonningii. The winetasting is served with all kinds of homemade things, delicious. Really a must-do. Book in advance, because they make everything by themselves. If you don’t like wine, lunch is also an option.
Wifi is available at the restaurant area.
We had a lovely time here and really recommend this place! Price $180 pppn.

Price is now 200Nad/p but always à beautiful place. 4 campsites in front of the vineyard. Really peacefull. Swimming pool is amazing. We really enjoyed to rest here.

Report Check-In

this was the best camp in namibia! very friendly, very clean, very good pool and very good wine! Paid 180pppn.

Report Check-In

Second time here, now they have a nice pool. Wine and food was good as last time. We will come back.

Report Check-In

Loved this place, stayed 2 nights, really nice pitches overlooking the vineyard with shady shelter, sink, electric, firepit, extremely clean and lovely bathrooms, beautiful and very inviting swimming pool. We stayed 2 nights so we could do a hike in the morning over the mountain, approx 2 hours and we saw wildebeest, impala, eland, oryx, hirrax, lovely scenery and then in the late afternoon we did the wine tasting and platter. Diana is such a lovely host for this event, we really enjoyed it and the platters were fantastic, plenty of cheese and meat, crackers, bread, fruit, Olives, dips, just delicious. We were really lucky to share the evening with some other overlandrrs and had a great time! Highly recommend a stop here!

Report Check-In

Stopped in again on the way back north. Had a platter and wine brought to our pitch.
Had a small issue with the showers being cold but spoke to reception and they fixed it very quickly (dead battery in boiler).

Report Check-In

Our first night in Namibia and we thoroughly enjoyed it. A lovely campsite with very good toilets and showers. Their wine tasting is also very nice, and the braai meat is superb.

Report Check-In

a little bit disappointed by this campsite :
+ the nice view
+ the roof, sink, table and shadow at every pit
+nice and clean ablutions
+ fast and free wifi
- no privacy between the 4 campsites
- 180 pppn : too much
- the noise of the road
- the big pool was green : we complained and obtained just a sorry!
- the owners ask us too many times if we want to consume wine or restaurant
so we stayed only 1 night : 3/5, we will not come back and we prefer meteorite campsite : cheaper(140pppn), quieter, clean pool and more friendly owners !

Report Check-In

Nice camping, very cozy! 180pppn. Great views. Fast wifi at the reception. Clean ablutions, braii, sink at the spot (a bit low though...) picnic table. Very quiet, we slept too much! Very nice and welcoming people :)

Report Check-In

Probably ok for small „big rigs“, but VERY tight for big rigs, we could not fit in without cutting the trees back.
If you decide to come and you have a big rig, call in advance and ask for the 2nd site on the left, that should be ok.

The facilities are nice and well maintained. The surroundings could do with some more care. The pool was filthy and was not useable.
The wine tasting (not conducted by the owner himself anymore) was meagre, if not to say stingy (we compare with other places) and even if the cold platter provided was ok, overall at N$350 (pp!) it is too expensive.

Report Check-In

Be carful! Prize are all ex 15% tax also campsite.

Report Check-In

Everything is mentioned except that the pool is ready. Great place!!

Report Check-In

Camping 165$ pPpN

Report Check-In

One of the best stops in Namibia!!!!
Lovley owners, super winetasting with excellent vines and cheese. Very clean abulutions. Highly recomended!!!

Report Check-In

Wonderful campsite on a farm. N$165pppn. Firewood N$30 per bundle.
Ablutions unique and clean. Electricity at each campsite. Highly recommended !

Report Check-In

What a lovely setting! We can truly recommend it too. The GPS co-ordinate’s are a bit wonky because we it shows a road after the actual entrance from the main road. Just have a lookout for their sign post next to the road. Follow the instructions as described.

Report Check-In

Extremely friendly people. They were building a swimming pool (soon to be opened!) so there was a lot of noise. They offered a free stay due to the noise. We got a bottle of wine to taste and it was unique and amazing (Kathalisher Red 2020). Unique views and a true agroturismo, something you don't find often in Africa. Next morning we got a tour of the wine cellar and the production process. Extremely clean ablutions, cleanest we've had in 4 months. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

Perfect stay, place with a lot of charm and color. Gilmar is really really nice, we bought wine ( Barbear 2020 was really good!). Campsite are large water, table, counter, nice view. Really clean bathroom, warm shower, place super quiet at night with nice birds songs to wake you up in the morning. 330 NAB $ for 2 adults.

Report Check-In

Very nice campsite in a beautiful nature. Natural and excellent wine that we can taste.
Tamara and Gilbert (the owners passionate about their business) take the time to receive you.
A very nice welcome.
150 $N/pppn for campsite.
There are also 2 lodges.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Very nice place, the price is still $150 p/p. Tamara (the owner) was very welcoming and her husband showed us his wine cellar.

Report Check-In

We had a wonderful evening at Otavi vineyard. The views over the vineyards from the campsite were really unexpected and beautiful, and Tamara came with a delicious platter of food to lead a fun wine tasting session. We really loved the wine and left with a case! Having been to the South African wine lands, we thought their desert wine in particular was the best we've had! The campsites are really well set-up with individual shelters with nice tables and sinks, and the ablutions block was great too. Highly recommend a stop here!

Report Check-In

It is always a pleasure to stay by Tamara and Gilmar. Sitting around the bonfire in a wonderful valley with a good glass of wine made of their own grapes and telling stories of the wildlife...this is Namibia. Thank you for the great hospitality!

PS. Cottages are nice decorated. It gives you a real Africa feeling. The abutions for the campsites too. Everything is clean and working perfectly. Good drinking water from the tab. wine tasting is great. Wine & grappa to buy directly from them for reasonable price. 5 Stars.

We enjoyed our time with Tamara and Gilmar

Everything good you read about this site is absolutely true! The site, its service, the staff, the owners, the ablutions, the enironment - everything is lovely. Gilmar and Tamara do their utmost best to receive their guests well and cater for their needs. We will also highly recommend the meals at the retaurant (has to be booked in advance), but make very sure you are hungry when you do go. The menu will astound you...

Report Check-In

We have been here last year already, now we are back. The campsites and ablutions are clean, nice green grass and trees.
We had a lovely dinner for 4, next door.
Don't miss this once off opportunity!

Report Check-In

5* ablutions! Really lovely owners and their pet sheep. Beautiful setting. We got a bit carried away with the wine tasting so Tamara gave us a lift to her in-laws for the planned dinner. 150pppn. She also offered to do winetasting and a snack platter and bring it to our campsite as an option for 250pp or 100 for just the wine tasting. Very artisinal wine with their own worm farm and compost etc. Hand bottled, corked and labelled. Really recommend staying here! See our review at Thonningii next door.

Report Check-In

(We were here 26/12/2020)
If you want to be adopted into the family temporarily, go here and have a wine tasting + lunch at Thonningi. One of the best experiences in Namibia! Hospitable family, clean and lovely ablutions and very reasonable rates for both campsite and lunch. And delicious food and wine. Wifi at the house.

Report Check-In

All as described below. After you cross the railway, head right and follow the gravel road around the vineyard to reach Tama and Gilmar's house or the campsite. Camping during covid times is 100pppn. Great ablutions!
If you head straight after crossing the railway, you will get to Gilmar's parents (their place is called Thonningii) where you can do the wine tasting and have lunch or dinner.

Report Check-In

We were planning 1 night but stayed for 5!
There are 2 chalets & 4 camp pitches.
Each pitch has a shelter with electric point, potable water, kitchen sink & picnic table.
Communal ablutions spacious & clean.
Views of vineyard & mountains. Peaceful location.
Owners Gilmar & Tamara are great hosts, very friendly & helpful.

Camping is 100$N p.p.p.n.
Dinner and wine tasting is 300$N p.p.

Report Check-In

We stayed at this campsite for two nights. The campsite is a bit dusty and dry, but that's probably this time of the year. You have a view over the wine yard and you got your own shelter with picknick table, braai/fire place and a sink. Ablutions are clean and spacious, very good shower. The owners are the best and even offered us to do our laundry for free. Camping is $10/$N p.p p.n. and is including a bag of firewood.
We booked a wine tasting and dinner at there parents wine yard. If you like walking it is a nice 40 minutes walk over their farmland and we saw a lot of game.
The wine tasting is very informal what we liked a lot, you sit outside on the nice terrace. The food they made was fantastic, enormous portions accompanied by nice wine, poet and grappa. It is really a must visit and it will be a highlight on your trip!

Report Check-In

Really nice campsites, very friendly owners - a young couple with 3 kids and dogs and sheep :-)

Report Check-In

After 5 months of travelling through western and central Africa with mostly rice and chicken, rice and chicken or rice and chicken this was our first stop in Namibia. beside the fact that the family is really helpful and understand what hospitality is (what already a reason is to visit it) is the food amazing!!! We are critical about food but everything what they made for us was from heaven. So, if you are tired of travelling and need good food, good wine and want to remember what real hospitality is, this is your place!!!

Report Check-In

What a gem of a place! The friendlyness of the owners together with the spotless facilities, great surroundings and the best wine and food tasting we ever had made our stay one of the greatest so far. We stayed in the cottage with our 3 children because it was raining too much to camp. Did the wine tasting and had a dinner which was so tasty. Everything local and organic. You fetaste the love and dedication of these people. Paid 320 for the tasting and dinner which is absolutely worth it.

Report Check-In

Coordinates I overlander bring you to the house. Entrance camping is before on the left, you pass camping first. Really nice place. Probably even better when it is not raining. We booked wine tasting and dinner in advance and that was really delicious. See ‘restaurant sign’ in I overlander.
