Many many cool spots! Easily accessible by 2WD, only a steep incline on the way up. Some campsites have picnic tables, most have firepits. There are a few port-a-loos but they are far and few between so it is possible to camp next to one but most likely not. The campsites fill up towards the beginning but there are sooo many as you keep going further. The rocks are beautiful and some spots have “rock playgrounds” that are very fun to climb and take photos on. Would definitely come back if I had the chance! Great Verizon and AT&T service.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
No. RD8. Nice spot next to two others, not very level but ok. Firepit.
4x4 not necessary, a bit of clearance might be helpful.
nice flat spot at the top of the hill. i drive up here easily on my 2wd 24' Sprinter fully loaded. The first bit is steep, but it gets flat on top. There are spots everywhere but no easy way to tell where! You drive around all these unmarked roads (Google maps aerial views help) until you find one that's empty and you like. There are hiking trails everywhere and the rocks are fun to climb. At my spot I have 4 bars of Verizon 5G.
Report Check-InAwesome spot tucked in between a few rock formations. Came in on a Thursday evening, place had lots of campers but was able to find a spot that did not disappoint!
Had to level off the rig with some traction boards but great spot overall.
Report Check-InGreat spot. Ton of places to camp with decent privacy. Very picturesque. Fun driving around on the roads. 4wd might be required in some spots in the network of roads out here. Had no issues in a 23’ 4wd Sprinter Van.
Report Check-InDispersed campsites as well as ones with metal fire rings. Nice, newly developed area. Free!
Report Check-InEverything said about this area is true. Two entrances, east and west. Tough road to drive up on the west side. If you are concerned, take the easy flatter east entrance, McCabe. Grab a map. You can easily get to the eastern sites snd camp amongst the rocks. Spectacular views, hiking,, climbing, and mbiking. Super quiet. Designated sites, not dispersed. A few toilets, ground is rock hard and difficult to dig a hole. Pack it out, please. Camp away from motorcycle trails in busy times. I am sure it gets loud.
Report Check-InLots of free camp sites. My site had a metal fire pit, I think that's probably standard. A couple pit toilets in the area. Like others noted, the hill is pretty rutted and on the steeper side. I saw mostly vans/trucks in the campsites, but did see a trailer or two.
Report Check-InBeautiful views! Plenty of spots to stay!
the GPS originally brought me past the entrance to the road, but I was able to backtrack!
the road to get up is very rooted, rocky and steep. I made it up with my 2wd sprinter, although if it was raining I would not have made it. But it was a beautiful spot!
The hill is pretty rutted and loose. Starts where 56A joins 32C. Its not especially long but its 1 lane and I personally wouldn't want to be driving anything large and heavy up it. Probably why its so rutted. More than manageable with my short top 2wd promaster but I had to hug one side to avoid the ruts.
Roads were very easy after that.
Tons of scattered sites.
Lovely rocks formations.
These spots are great! We stayed in two different sections for variety. We’ll be staying again.
Report Check-InAmazing camping spot right out of gunnisson, the entry is steep and called “kill hill rd” for a reason. You will be rewarded with the best camping spots ever. There are lots of spots. There is also a longer way to drive out that doesn’t require going down the hill. We had a pickup in 4lo and made it fine. AT&T service was good
Report Check-InMany available spots! Really neat landscape ! Will definitely come back with our e-bikes next time!!
Report Check-In51 dispersed campsites.
I came through RD 32 to 32B, then around to the higher sites. No problem even with a heavy 2WD ProMaster. On a Sunday, one of 6 campers I saw.
Fire rings, few scattered vault toilets, limited shade, great signal with weboost.
Huge trail system of. Places with a bunch of spots to camp ranging from small pull outs to big campsites. Lots of trails to run , hike, 4 wheel. Cool dessert feel. 4wheel not necessary. Crowded on a Saturday so took a bit to find a private spot but a bit of clearance was nice
Report Check-InGreat views might need 4x4 for some sites no big rigs for sure. BML land and rules.
