We spoke to the gentleman who is also collecting the money if you did not call and he said he is checking all the spots during the day and every day. He passed by at 5:30pm, then 9:30pm and 8am next morning.
He told us he is entitled to give fines.

Great spot between the mountains and beside the Ste-Marguerite River. Not too far from the road. On the 172, take the little dirt road with the green #54 sign. Has fire pits, trash can and picnic tables. Fishermen have to register and pay 25$ to camp there, but with about 100 spots like this near the river, there are slim chances that you will see anyone.

Finally we slept here because the guy collecting the money happened to pass by. He told us that we cannot pay with the web site but we have to pay by calling. He said we can also pay him cash or credit. He also said he is entitled to give a fine if we spend the night without paying. He goes thru all the site one by one during the evening more than once. We first saw him at 5:30pm then at 9:30 pm

Since we have to reserve and pay 30$ and no cell signal, we decided to stay an hour to enjoy the river and calmness. Then we pursued our trip.

At this time of year all campgrounds and rest stops are shut in Quebec. We were so glad to find this fabulous spot, thank you iOverlander.

Tried to make the payment online, but it didn't work.
Superb location! 10/10

A piece of road washed out but found a nice spot tucked in by the river. Did not pay as didn’t know how and had no cell service.

As described. Met some fishermen/women. Very friendly. Not sure how to register and pay for camping as our French is limited. If someone shows to collect we would gladly pay, as it is a lovely spot. There are garbage cans so there is no reason to leave trash. Wish we had a fishing license!

Large site around a river bend with room for multiple partys. There is no sandy beach though, its all river rocks and gravel. There was a couple at the other end and we had enough space in between to be intimate. The view is breathtaking and the river water cold and refreshing. Easy access from the highway. According to the st-marguerite river association, all campers must call to pay for overnight stay at 25$ (each tent or person? not clear). There is a sign. Wild campsite. No toilet, you have to dig your hole far from the river to leave no trace. Theres is a trashcan and the site was clean :) would come back!!
