Attention Oversized Vehicles!!!
All vehicles 11’4” (3.4m) tall or taller, or 7’10” (2,4m) wide or wider including mirrors, awnings, and jacks can not safely drive through the 1.1-mile long Zion-Mt Carmel Tunnel in two-way traffic.
There is a 15$ fee (valid for 2 trips within 7 days) for this service.
Rangers are available to provide traffic control for oversized vehicles between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
All information here is still accurate! We got the permit for the tunnel and drove our skoolie through with no issues. The road through the tunnel is steep and winding, but the low speed limit (35mph) and the smooth paved roads make this a perfectly do-able route for most rigs.
Report Check-InWent through the tunnel many times without our trailer. When we went through entrance gate the lady insisted we were oversized, doing weird things with the measuring tape, holding up 50 people in the line. We were 90” and not the 94”+…. We paid the $15 USD ($22 CAD) just to get the line moving. My recco is to ask the front gate to call a ranger and park to the side if you don’t want to pay.
After asking around at the Welcome Center, thankfully went to the Watchman Camground booth where a Ranger is authorized to do refunds. He measured us and got approval from management for the refund, though he said to not use the service in future if we want to dispute and get a refund (ie. don’t drive through the tunnel).
Report Check-InAll provided info still valid today. Very nice drive this way though and the tunnel is neat to go through.
Report Check-InNo vehicles over 13’1” tall.
