Still 350K for a cottage, didn’t budge on price. Big secure parking behind gate. Ended up staying here just because the card machine next door at Meru fuel station wasn’t working and we wasted 1.5 hrs for it to charge, tried 3 ATMs in town, it seems foreign cards don’t work here. Nice big room with AC, clean sheets, hot shower, DSTV. Wifi signal is there but no Internet, I think they just tell everyone that it’s having issues and don’t bother paying for their connection! We had our induction stove and supplies so cooked our breakfast and left early.

We spent one very quite night there but in the morning (at 10:30) came the border police and let us know that it is not allowed to stay there. They have been waiting until we left the area.

This place is awesome! Best hospitality we’ve had on our 8 month trip so far. Owner, Andrew, is great. We had dinner together and he showed us the storks and vultures. The dinner was yum and everything seems very fairly priced. We took ourselves for a small farm tour to the pigs and orphaned baby goats (very cute). Well worth a stop in for some Zambian hospitality! We will definitely stop in again on our way South again. 10/10

Here some more info I wish I had had beforehand: There are 3 ferry lines, DFDS, Irish and P&O, each taking about 1 1/2 h. Also there is the train/tunnel, faster (~30min crossing), but a bit more expensive and no view. Maybe worth it in stormy weather.
The police helped me look far a cheap ticket online, but if you book for the same day it is very expensive, as in double the price. In the end, I booked a ticket for the next day (4am) with Irish Ferries for 78£ (Hilux with small slide-in camper with driver only) which came with a free flex option. With that I could get on their next boat at 7pm the same day. It seems common that they let you on an earlier boat if there is room. Also they didn't check the vehicle dimensions very carefully. Overall everybody is helpful and relaxed.
There is no customs on this side.

Nature Gas
Here I refilled my Italian cylinder, but only thanks to one of the adapters I had with me (I think the one for German connection).
A bit pricey with 1,000 Dalasi, but now I have another month of cold beers!

small car park of the prefecture. we asked a person from the prefecture who was in a moored boat if we could sleep there, it was ok. quiet but windy night. right next to the port entrance to take the Maria Turquesa boat which does the gourmet cruise. if you are lucky you can sleep in front of an iceberg.

Lovely spot near town, flat camping area and suitable for bigger rigs. Stunning views of Lake Victoria and perhaps one of the most beautiful sunrises we've experienced so far.
Great restaurant, bar with drinks etc - free wifi which has good signal.
Toilets are clean, agree with below comments in that shower is basic, we had luke warm water, not hot but certainly not ice cold. Strong pressure.
Grounds are between two restaurants and can be noisy towards late evening but it does get shut down at a reasonable time.

Would happily stay here again.

Good, professional car wash. We just came from the Serengeti and car was a muddy disaster. 20,000 tz shilling for outside the car, underneath the body and engine bay clean.
Fast and efficient, had lunch down the road while we waited.

This huge Camping offers a lot of space. Big rig friendly. Many trees for shade. Bathroom with cold showers. No internet. Electricity is only in the toilet block, to charge a handy etc. We paid 50 uruguaische Peso p. P. per day. The River Casupa is right next to the camp. You can swim, paddling or just have a nice look at it. We loved this place. Stayed 3 days. Even on weekends it's not much crowded. Rubbish bins are everywhere. We recommend.

Lovely spot, just pull over on the side of this very wide beach access lane. We asked the bartender if it was ok, he said no problem - I think it's public land but we had a drink at the hotel anyway. Food/drinks available from 7am to 9pm. As others have mentioned, there is a pool with outdoor showers. Quiet and ok cell service.

Nice campsite with lots of space, also for vehicles. Many animals around, dogs, sheep, horses... Good, hot showers open from 8-11am and 18-21pm. WiFi at the refugio, but if you park close, the quality is okay. Price is 8.000 Pesos ppn. We recommend 😃

Nice campground. Full hookups with space between sites. Friendly hosts.
Full hookups have a $10 per day fee on top of the campsite fee of $20.
Would stay here again if in the area.

Awesome wild camping spot on BLM land. Can be a bit loud with people riding ATVS and shooting but generally they are pretty far off. There are some Indian petroglyphs right near the site, a couple of old mines, one of which you can walk down into safely. There’s also a small pond within a mile or so. Lots to see and explore at this site. Somewhat difficult to get to, after passing over the wash take your next right and follow the power lines on til you see a slight hill on your right and it’s behind that hill. 4x4 is a good idea mostly because of the sandy wash. Lots of interesting mountain biking trails that someone went through and named with wooden signs. Hammocking from the power lines and watching sunrise on the hill over the wash are some special experiences this site has to offer. Any of the barrel cactus you see with golden fruit are edible and make good snacks while out hiking. Lived out here on and off while attending CDI in Goodyear and is one of my favorite spots in the area. If you stay up at night long enough with low music playing desert foxes will come up to camp and say hi looking for fruit or vegetables to use for hydration.
Cell service is spottyish (Verizon) one bar and LTE loads videos slowly Spotify quickly.

Worked well enough for a night. Didn't ask anyone and wasn't bothered. Parked in the back near the adjacent park trailhead. (walking and MTB if you're inclined) Some highway and general traffic noise. Cops came through a few times around midnight, looking up into the park like they were searching for someone. They didn't seem to care about me in my promaster.

Good spot for one night. We arrived really late and were glad to find a calm, hidden spot. The next morning there were quite a few people passing by and stopping to look at our car. Some asked us what we were doing there. I guess you could also spend the day here but for us it didn’t feel right. When we left some police guys were stationed at the main road and wanted money from us. We negotiated our way out. As I said: okay spot for one night but nothing more.

What an awesome and sweet place to stay! There’s only room for one or maybe two vans. The views of town are incredible. There’s a Thai and veggie pizza restaurant in the property as well as cabanas and a témezcal! $300 pesos each for a 45 minute experience which included a self administered mud scrub and a cup of tea at the end. We loved it!
Hot showers and flush toilets. $200 pesos per night for two people in a van. A tuk tuk back from town is $15 pesos / person. Do it just for fun!

positive: nice place on almost unreal green even during dry season as they sprinkle every day ! nice restaurant with outdoor seating area between banana-trees. Victoria the Manager is helpful and very friendly as all the staff are. clean toilets on top-level. electricity connection available. kitchen area for camper use incl fridge if needed. they organise taxi for 30K TSH roundtrip if you need shopping in town. it was indeed very helpful.

negativ: crusading church folks with loudspeakers within reach and noisy. we stayed 6 nights and about half of these days we felt disturbed in the evening as it is normally nice quiet at night.
we tried to negotiate the high price even for longstay but owner insisted on 30$/night for 2 of us which was a bit disappointing. no cool beer or soda available as fridges were turned off (according to staff) due to low guest occupancy. didnt understand this as they operate mostly on solarpower ...

Fairground campground on asphalt right off the 14. $50/night with full hookups, no discount or facility for dry camping. I went into the admin office and the lady acted like she didn't know about any camping, but then I looked at the fairgrounds map and pointed it out. "Let me check if there's anything available, oh yes we have 5 spots. Pay online when you get out there." Probably 50% of the folks were long term (l-o-o-o-ng). I didn't stay.
