The sign at the roadside now says “Cottonwood Wilderness Park - Membership Only”. Didn’t go in and check but it seems they’re not offering a campground now.

This road scared the sh-t out of me, but there’s no turning around so you’re just in it once you start. I then wasn’t able to find the flat part, because it’s up a very steep slope that looked like a slight bump at the top and didn’t even look like anything else was up there. I parked down the road a bit in a tiny shoulder, not able to drive any more of this road to the further sites shown on the map. Later I found this place on foot but didn’t move up to it. Still pretty here.

Place had decent showers. I also parked in the back by the fence and was not bothered. Loud trucks most of the night though getting fuel and leaving.

Don’t get stuck staying at hotel 24hrs waiting Covid results to cross into Nicaragua. I know a doctor who will get your test and results in few hours very close to the boarder. He charges 100$us per person. Email me for info. I found him when I crossed recently [email protected]

Nice little private parking space in the forest right off the highway. Room for two or three vehicles if you’re open to sharing.

I did it on a Suzuki DR650 up to Mejicana and up to the mirador of station 8. You have to cross the rio amarillo more than 15 times, not easy.

I went up only because 3 enduro guys were going up as well (on a Saturday). I would not have risked it alone. Be careful with a motorbike. It’s very cold and super windy up there in May. Be sure there is no rain or snow in the days before because the crossings might be imposible or the road partially destroyed.

Starting in Chilecito no later than 9hr is a good time. Took me a full day.

Gate was staffed on a week-end. 500 pesos.

A busy spot in the warmer months, it seems. There was a car with a boat on a trailer blasting music around 1:30am on Sunday night - maybe just due to the busyness of Memorial Day weekend. River is nice and cold, took a refreshing morning dip! One other overlander was there when I was. So, not too quiet but the nice river made up for it. Cheers!

Quiet place crossing the bridge from the road next to the mountain, nice to pitch the tent for one night. There are two empty houses around. You can find some flat areas and be hidden from the road.

We arrived here after dark and the road to the nearby "gravelpit" seemed too bad to try at night. So we stayed on the side of the road in front of the closed gate to the national park. Quite and peaceful night. Weather changed from pouring rain and dense fog to clear night sky within 30min and we had great views in the morning.

Our truck is to high to enter, so we stayed 2 nights on the muddy parking just outside and paid 1000 pesos per night.
Took a boattrip (2000 pp) and also had to pay entrance of the parque nacional (2500 pp) at the visitorcentre.
We did see more animals walking around the visitorcentre than on the boattrip.
Even some capibara on the campground!
Clean, warm shower and beautiful sunset.
Was it worth the horrible ride from Mercedes and the money? Yes we think it was.

Add: there were no dogs barking the whole time. One Car Poser with a loud exhaust at around 8 pm and that‘s it. It was a very quiet night. Hot water also in the morning (geyser) - recommendation.

flat parking with security a few meters from the ocean. a bit busy as it's Saly main beach, a bit of music until 10pm but very quiet afterwards. no hassle from the beach sellers. we came here 3 times.
we were asked to pay (2000cfa) the first night, but nothing for the next ones. I think it's actually a free parking ;)
no facilities except nearby beach restaurants. we have a self contained campervan.

Sigue igual. Lento Internet pero funciona bien. Lo encienden de 7:30am a 5pm. Lad instrucciones están en la puerta. Gratis.

Still the same. Slow internet but works fine. They turn it on from 7:30am to 5pm. Instructions are on the door. Free. We work remotely and from Stewart there is no cell signal or free internet until up here. Plan the distances in advance if you need to work. We were told that the cell signal is back at Alaska Hwy around 360km north from here.

Open on Sunday! If you face both car washes mentioned here, we went to the one on the left called Lavado Autos Avaroa. 80bol for a full outside wash with corrosion protection in our RAM Promaster. We were serviced right away and people were polite.

Great pull offs to camp passed the Anamas overlook. Bathrooms at the overlook just down the trail. Be aware that you’re on 7 miles of gravel road to get here. Not crazy steep road, nicely graded. A little bumpy. Wouldn’t suggest a larger rig attempt it. Hard to turn around. But our Ford Transit did just fine.

fun spot. we pulled into a private campsite in the woods on a creek. Paid $10 night. They have trails to hike, hot springs for $15, and the ice museum is fun. Lots to do! Sites are dry camping but there is potable water to fill RV tank and a dump.

Great spot super quiet, when I was there it was lightly raining for two days. Only saw local fishermen. Who would stop by for a couple hours and walk up the creek. Very clean pit toilet. Great for visiting Craters of the the moon and Ketchum.

Stayed 1 night in class B van and it was fine. There were 3 karate vans in the middle of the parking lot so we got in line with them. Could have parked anywhere really. Real nice Stop & Shop supermarket, clean bathrooms in the morning. Franklin Roosevelt estate is next to the shopping complex. His house, library, stable, gardens, etc well worth the tour. Vanderbuilt's house is just down the road but we didn't have time to visit it.
