We were so happy to find this place last minute. There is first come first serve around 3-4pm. The rangers were very helpful. The place is in a very natural state. We’re surrounded by trees, a lake and had our own fire place and table. We had a shower and restroom close by. As there aren’t many places around Big Sure, it was a perfect spot for 35$. As two young woman we can totally recommend that spot.

Security kicked us out at 10pm on the night we tried to stay here. He said the parking lot in the whole shopping center is off limits.

Great night sleep. Got in late and left in the morning. There were other campers and trucks parked as well. Also, the bathrooms inside were immaculate (maybe the nicest Walmart bathroom yet). A perfect stop for passing through.

The dunes are now permanently closed, there is a fence around the area.

went back here today to have my rear tire replaced. within 20 minutes I was back on the road with the new tire fitted.

Sleepy border crossing, done both sides in 30 minutes total. Took some explanation for the Carnet.

Smaller than most but it does have a dog park.

Great place to eat. One of the best we tried in Uganda.Plates always serves with veggie.

Private place by the lake. The men are not very friendly. He asks us 100 pesos per person and 200 for the tent. And few minutes after says we have to pay per hour… For a place without toilets and showers it’s very expensive!! We didn’t stay.

No dice. Gate to road all locked up. Really no spots along this road all the way from Taos. Back to the walmart.

Nice, spread out, small campsite. A bit exposed, but they supply tables and cover. Quiet except for usual camper sounds. Nice.

Ficamos aqui um total de 4 dias, muito tranquilo, além de tudo a D. Cida dona do quiosque um amor de pessoa. Sentava com a gente pra bater papo nos ofereceu água e banheiro Também após o banho de mar tem um chuveiro do quiosque muito bom.
foram dias maravilhas, estávamos em 3 motorhome.
Ficar aqui me senti em um condomínio, uma casa de praia só pra nós..
Fizemos amizades boas aqui.

$20 to dry camp overnight on the lot next to the full hook up park ($45 there). You pay when you pull in. They said we could use showers and bathroom on the full hookup side. Nothing special and I probably won’t, but after a beach day I guess it’s better than nothing. Also, said we can fill our water and dump our tanks before we leave. T-Mobile cell service is good.
Walking distance to a few beach bars and restaurants.
We checked out beach access 5 and 6. Each would’ve been $14 (pay right there), but I was hesitant to take our class B+ rv on the sand. The tide was high. Also, those sites aren’t walkable to any restaurants or bars.

Space for a about four cars, vans, or small RVs. Hiking area along the river that is great for tent camping. Some beautiful views and the river has a soft sandy bottom. Great for swimming. Rangers patrol the area and there are non-stop Eglin Air Force Base helicopters above today. Otherwise pretty quiet. Almost non-existent Verizon service. Maybe able to send a text, that's it. Great place to bring your dog! We even saw a couple fireflies (April). No amenities. The user below is mistaken about the showers. There are none here.

As described before… it’s a pretty nice place to stop for the night. It is dusty, the Wi-Fi isn’t very good, it’s a little $$$$, and the main bathrooms are currently out of order. But it is clean, appears safe, and the people are very nice.

We came on a random Tuesday and we shared this spot with about 7 other vehicles. So don't go into this place thinking you'll have it to yourself like we did....you'll be disappointed! haha

Don’t let the previous posts frighten you! Drove the pass today, after it had been raining for three days, in my 1996 Rav4 with awd and no issues at all. As said before, 2wd minibuses drive these roads up and down everyday!

There is only 1 steep hill that is challenging if you’re coming from Tseba Tseka (coming from Mokhotlong its more easy as its downhill). A lot of big stones, but can avoid them. You need some clearance, but with my rav4 didnt touch any stone (half clearance of a Hilux). Of course 4x4 with recommended, and drop your tire pressure for extra grip.

Take dirtroad right next to the lodge, it leads to a maize plantation. Along the river are some spots. Good for the night, and more hiddenthan other two wildcamp spots.

Wanted to camp here, but is right next to and openly visible from the highway. Went down to the river.

Heard about this scam too from several other travellers/tourists. They ask you to pay toll or some kind of fee, and you have to pay by card. Then they somehow distract you after you entered your pin and take your card!

Just continue driving when someone stops you and asks for toll!

Busy place, lots of cars coming and going as late as midnight and as early as 6am. Only 3ish parking spots available. Lovely spot, can hear the waves on the shore and beautiful views. There is a no camping and no fires sign present but we were not bothered by anyone. One local who spoke to us asked for a tour of our bus and was very friendly.

Camping Garopão, antigo Toa Toa praticamente pé na areia. Limpo e bem organizado, ainda fazendo reformas.
Banheiros limpos, e água quente, tem cozinha de uso comum com fogão e geladeira. Preço muito bom pelo que oferece, tanto pra uso com barraca ou Motorhome

We came after the office was closed. There was a sign in the registration office that there are couple spots left for self registration (from the front it said campground full, but we walked around the back and there it was) we had to write our own number down, put 35$ in the envelope and hand it to the camp host. Place was alright for one night. Clean restroom, right by the beach. Beautiful sunset!! Safe for two young woman sleeping in the car

Professional welder. Place is a bit of a dump, but the welds he made to our suspension are suberb.
Not cheap, but we didn't haggle. 3000ars for hour work + steel

Easy overnight spot in a walkable area. Some very colorful neighbors, but lots of other rigs and we felt safe. Garbage, bathroom, and cold showers just down the hill on the beach. Free between the hours of 6 PM and 9 AM, every day of the week.

I must have taken a different road then the previous person, mine was not paved and needed 4 wheel drive. I'm glad I made it, this place is beautiful! There are kite surfers here too...and a restaurant set up?? they didn't speak English.

No issues in our 2wd Chevy. Dry conditions. All good!
