We crossed from Turkey to Iran on 2 motorcycles. Pretty straight forward with Turkey you just have to stay on your vehicle.
Iran side went pretty smooth as well. It's just that there is no order of things as how to go about them. So here are the steps.
1) The guards will receive you and check your documents.
2) once you documents are back in your hand there will be someone to guide you instead of you wondering where to go. We paid 1.5 euros to him i.e 500k Rials
3) First you go to immigration and have your visa stamped.
4) Go to customs officer for Carnet. He will write some stuff on it and send you to get you insurance. WE DIDNT NEED INSURANCE FOR MOTORCYCLES APPARENTLY. EVEN THOUGH OURS EUROPEAN ONE IS NOT VALID.
4) After insurance you go to another officer to have the carnet completed and signed.
5) The first officer who wrote on the carnet initially needs to sign and then 3rd person as well.
So carnet is a bit of a hassle to have it done so don't go hitting walls and instead pay some one 1.5 euros for assistance. it helps them too.
We were done in 40mims the whole process.

A very quiet place, special for doing boondoking. We spent one night, sleeping in our vehicle, under the heat of an extremely starry sky. We were lucky enough to be able to see the lunar eclipse around 4 am on 11/19/2021. Spectacular!!!

It's a bit expensive campsite compared to the rest of Namibia.
Clean ablution, nice sites and just at the side of the river.

We paid N$720 for a campsite for two adults and two children.

Cops come through at bar closing, don’t bother you. No issues. Quite a few homeless boondockers in cars, but felt safe. Quiet after the bar closes. Good for a night.

Don't know why we went here after all the bad comments below... We went on a Friday night thinking things had changed after two years. We were wrong! Started out with around 20 cars at 8pm, then at 9pm they started doing doughnuts right next to our van. I usually sleep through anything but even this was too loud for me - the tarmac was smoking they were revving so hard! Would love to know if the last people went on a weekend too, or whether this happens every night?
But either way, this place is fine for a pit stop to top up with water, shower and maybe even empty your toilet in the WC, but don't sleep here! 25 minutes away just south of the dunes there is a gorgeous spot by the sea and seals, go there instead!

Really lovely hotel/hostel with big private rooms and shared bathroom and common areas. There is a little kitchen with Kettle, toaster, microwave, plates, cutlery etc. Wifi is excellent and we highly recommend getting the home cooked meals, they are big portions and very tasty. It's quite remote but very peaceful and easy access from the main road. Also it's pet friendly, our 2 dogs were in our room and very welcome with no extra charge. You can find the place on Booking.com or just turn up like we did. Would definitely stay again.

Nice Cenote
We traded the end of a mezcal bottle and a pack of cigarillos in order to stay the night for free. Nando and Jose, the two chaps at the entry rope were quite happy about it. Still paid 60 pesos per person for the entry. We were a group of 7 in two jeeps. Calm spot for camping.

Posto Rosário is a huge gas station with plenty spaces to park. Apparently restaurants close early. At 9 pm restaurant and snack bar were closed. Clean bathrooms . Parking spots on the back, close to the mangos garden, are particularly quiet.

They wanted to charge us $15/person.
We are on a bicycle tour so only wanted a spot for 1 tent. They didn't care , $30 for 2 person . So we got a hotel room for the same price.

Still 400 pesos for 2 people. If you stay more than a night, they will give you a discount.

Gabriel Park. Lots of dog-friendly trails. A little muddy this time of year, but a beautiful spot. The road is quite busy, but the neighborhood seems very quiet otherwise.

Public parking overnight seems very acceptable, with no signage prohibiting parking anywhere along this lengthy strip.

Small convenience store and strip mall with restaurant 1 block away.

pull out on the side of the road, marked for parking but no one else came along. couple minute walk down a trail brings you to picnic tables and fire pits. be careful the trail is a little steep towards the end and very slippy when wet (that's what she said.) Picnic area has great views of the lake.

at night there's zero traffic and slept great. maybe a few cars an hour during the day. very quiet.

had 1-2 bars ATT and was good enough for me.

Beautiful spot… came here with our 40 ft converted school bus. The road was rough to say the least. Take it slow and you should be ok with high clearance. There are many coyotes so if you have small dogs, keep them inside at night. There are also wild burros that roam around. Super fun

Entered in the dark. Bit of a problem to level. Till midnight noisy traffic, midnight quiet. Traffic starts 06.00 but still good spot with oceanview.
