A large campground that is equivalent to a small town. Seems a bit more peaceful in the off season, I could picture this place getting really full & loud in regular season. Paid $20.50 online beforehand, off season prices.

We slept on the parking lot one night for free. Though we paid 10 bols each to take a shower (a nice hot shower by the way!)
The spot is quiet, peaceful and there is a guard in the hotel.

Pretty, quiet beach around the point from Sanispac. From here you don't hear the trucks from the highway. 200 pesos for a palapa. Garbage and bucket toilet available. You can walk a ways north to the point that you can see in the distance. The afternoon winds can kick up here. If you're going kayaking out to the islands it is best in the morning. Enjoyed this place and it is more attractive on land than Sanispac in our opinion.

Great spot to camp at. Pretty lake. Totally quiet in November but may be noisier with fishermen and their boats in the summer. Had no problems getting it, the designated campsite is directly to the right of the boat launch in the grass

On our way to Erbil we found this one here. At the weekend the Irakis as well spent their days here, so here and there it has been a bit crowded, but every single person has been very nice. No problems whatsoever.
The only thing, which is a lil drawback are the trucks, which are driving the gravelroad along the river. Seems to be kind of highway.
Therefore while daytime it's pretty dusty here, in the evening it got very calm.
The police came along one time, checked our passports and was wondering, why we are staying here (don't know, if they didn't liked this place ;) )
Nevertheless they wished us a good travel

FYI Didn’t see a military base. We were in route to La Gringa but it was getting dark so decided to stay here for the night. Right on the beach and quite except for a few dogs in the distance. Short but wash board road to the site. Hard to believe this land doesn’t belong to someone.

We stayed in the large flat lot down past the first camping area you come to that has a handful of designated sites and pit toilet. The lower lot was nice and quiet, except it’s deer season and there was some noise from hunters who showed up that night and set up camp in the grassy area at the end of the lot (and fired off a gun), and hunters who showed up early the next morning and parked right behind us for some reason, when there was only one other vehicle besides us in the whole big parking area. Those were minimal disturbances, though, and it was a great spot to stay over for a night. There are 2-3 additional camping areas in the conservation area, too. Whenever you come into the conservation area on RB, you can go left (where we went to camp), right, or straight, and find small camping areas down each road. We toured the others before we left and the others were all full of hunters who were camped. The big lot found by turning left off RB was the least populated while we were there.

Good spot, felt safe being in a large lot with 6 other vans. Stayed here vs. driving further in to take advantage of the cell service (not great but it works). Porta potty on the access road to this spot

Great spot. Very family friendly. Stores prices were surprisingly reasonable considering the remote location. One the best beach combing beaches I’ve been to in my life.

Nice backpacker place with some campsites next to the river. Restaurant is beautiful and prices are affordable. We payed 160r for 2 persons and our 4x4. Unfortunately some guests where a bit drunk and loud during the night. Otherwise very nice place. Wifi was available at the restaurant.

As already mentioned, Mike (Sparky) is an excellent host. His wife (Hope) and him have built a great place for overlanders amongst the vineyards; built by overlanders for overlanders. Mike is extremely knowledgable about the region and can give you great advice. If you’re more outdoorsy, either he or his family can share some local trails for cycling, running or walking (we’re sure there are other hidden talents in this awesome family, too!).

NOT suitable for big rigs: the entrance gate leaves only a few cm on each side, followed by deep sand and narrow standing trees with low hanging branches … very difficult to maneuver, we struggled to get out again!

No fix price. I don’t know how these vendors charge. We arrived in the evening and the middle age lady said 5p / gallon. But they were closing so we were told to return 8am tomorrow.
We returned next day, the gentleman in blue tshirt uniform decided 3p/ gallon. We had our rv tank filled . Then we gave him a 10litre container and he said 1p/ litre. 1ltr=4.54gallon.
So if you do the math, it’s cheaper if you are filling by the gallons or calculate by gallons instead of liters. In the end, it isn’t much in the grand scheme of things but we don’t like it that they choose to charge whatever price to different people?
The water taste fine, they had a water hose hooked up which we used. There is a meter inside the room which you can watch - and we did so they didn’t ‘round up’ the final cost.
It’s tricky for big rigs . We had to turn at next block and return from the back to position at the water station. Cables hang low when you turn into those blocks and may hit your roof. Also, often other automobiles are parked in the side street where you need to park to fill. We had to wait for someone to move their vehicle . Not ideal. I suggest go elsewhere .

There are uniformed security guards circling the entire salt marsh factory area in ATV. One young man in particular asked for bribes to camp. Very rude and threaten to call the cops on us. There are plenty of spaces and spots and we were on the main Streets, not the parking lots. We moved several times but he claimed everything is his ‘territory’ including all the spots listed nearby on iOverlander and we have to get out unless we pay his bribe. The cops eventually showed up but left us alone as this was considered ‘private land” - belonging to the salt factory. We didn’t want to deal with the guard who started shouting at us so we left. Please do not condone his behavior by giving him money as he was apparently fishing for easy money. We should have reported him when his supervisor showed up.
We would usually would tip someone who eg collects trash etc but in this case, this man was rude and callous.

Owner is very kind, let us stay overnight and chose not to charge us.he usually charges 50-100p/ night. We left him some treats for his grandkids as a token of appreciation.

Large orange grove, very peaceful. Truck / highway noise died after certain hours near midnight. Beautiful sunset. Felt safe. It’s a little outside town. Great place to break your journey .no amenities. Big rig no problem turning around.

The other hotel in town is also named Galopeado- and the lady charges 50p for parking inside their compound . However, no way can a big rig enter.

We stopped to have a tire changed. The mechanic - young man- checked and then called another man who showed up in a beat up grey / silver car who proceeded with the job. He quoted us 500p for a new tire and promised to find us an identical tire. after we agreed, he then returned with a 300usd (6000p) tire. After installed, we realized it’s smaller than what we needed so we requested him to remove and instead, put on our spare tire. He charged us 1200p -a number that was never agreed upon. Price gouge because he took advantage of us stranded (he had removed them tire and wheel and we were by the road side). He settled for 1000p which we found out was 10x more what it should have cost. His name is ANTONIO GOMEZ. Unfortunately we dont have a photo of his face. He is in his 40s, his wife is plump, dark skin and wears her long hair in an untidy low ponytail. She was with him the whole time. We tracked him to his house to request for a receipt for the job done and they denied it. Cheat and thief. His shop (that doesn’t exist anymore ) is called Japo (pronounce ‘HAh-PO’) is near the roundabout by the Pemex further into town. Beware and don’t accept any help from mobile techs like this. This man is known in town. The first photo showed Los Liebes where we stopped for help and Antonio was called by the mechanic to work on our camper. The second showed the outside wall leading to his house.
