The van-life/boondock community has definitely taken this over, and they don’t take too kindly to riffraff round’ these’ parts’ lol. The place is VERY clean, which is why I say the riffraff must’ve been chased out. Pulled in just after sunset at 7 with 2 other cars, and was later greeted with 4 other vehicles by 10 PM.

Way to go Overlander community! Keeping apples like this clean and safe is what will keep the doctors and police and locals away. Let’s hope it stays like this for many years to come.

Security patrolling around said it was ok to stay here. We are in a 23ft travel trailer. Plenty of places to eat around this small town.

there are yellow jackets or the like taking an immediate interest in my car. Creek is bone dry. not sure I'll be staying. but it is cute and the fire ring a great feature.

We were the online guests today. Nice & clean ablution. NAD 300 per car/night.

A little bit decent everything, but clean ablutions, nice grassy pitches with view over the dam.
We paid 70 ZAR ppn.
Showers are hot.
For one night really okay.

Since 01.09.2021 you have to pay for the game drive. International 90 Pula ppn plus 150 for the vehikel. Additional 90 ppn if you will  visit the diamond Museum. You have to do the payment for the game drive in the Museum.

Wild camping in the park. Water point in the park is available.

Stayed one night without issue, no signs that prohibit overnight parking. Walmart is open 6a-11p, not 24hrs. Fairly quiet, clean, and a good quality Walmart as well. Like OP said go in and go left to be relatively out of the way.

Nice place and friendly people. In the middle of nature. Very basic sanitation and thin water line from shower. Cold but not really due to hot weather. Ksh 2000 pppn. Hike Ksk 1000 pp and guide also Ksh 1000. Very nice walk into mountains. Firewood included in price. We refused the warrior next to us all the time and preferred privacy instead. I

I'm really glad I checked this place out!

Carlos lives there with his family and takes care of the area. He is a humble and educated fellow who tries to protect the jungle and wetlands from deforestation. Unlike other places you won't see a lot of trash there because he cares about nature and picks it up. By visiting Camp Aguateca you're helping Carlos in his endeavor.

A small river passes by right next to the camping area. The water is clear and refreshing. Howler monkeys and spider monkeys hang out all around the camp.

Carlos can give you a tour of the Aguateca ruins for 100Q. It's really worth it. He is a great guide and knows the history very well.

The road to get there is a bit rough but any car or van will make it, no problem. During the rainy season there's a few patches that are muddy but easily negotiable anyway.

One of many NFS campgrounds along the highway. Creekside sites available. Pit toilets, fire rings, picnic tables. Great 3 bars ATT cell 5G. Very clean and everything seemed recently upgraded. Shared water spigot near entrance. Excellent spot.

Tried in vain to make it to the hot springs before dark. Lots of road work delays from Agua Azul until here. Parking is small so nothing bigger than a van or pickup camper. They lock the gate at night and have security guard. The best thing is the price. Queen bed room with A/C, fast wifi, good TV, and warm shower is only 45K pesos. Oh, and a nice little pool.. after paying 40K for bad parking lot camping at Lake Tota, this place was great!!

nice state park campground with hot showers. next to a pretty little lake with a 1 mile loop trail around lake. no dump station at this park. paid $19 for a tent site.

Nice hotel with tons of secure parking, tall enough for large rigs. Ran out of light and got lucky with this town, planning to check out the cenote tomorrow!

9 or 10 sites. Fire rings. Picnic tables. 2 pit toilets, clean enough. People, including locals, fishing - so, perhaps, fish.

A very good place to relax.

Foggy night. Entrance to the road was hard to see but easy to find at the end of the guardrail. Parked by the rock near the entrance. Can barely hear traffic on the highway.

Several No Camping signs are now up- I didn’t risk it.

Beautiful place, it's actually called "Quinta Recreativa Cooperativa Los Pinos". The parking lot is not very level, but you can make it work. Pets are allowed, they have 3 dogs on the property, but our cat was fine. Super quiet, nice lake access for swimming. Pricing is a bit confusing, but I think I figured it out: $2 entrance per person and then $1 parking per night (24 hours), so we ended up paying $6 for two nights, so a really good deal!

If you happen to go from El Congo to Tacachico or vice versa, you can save 20km but will probably add half an hour going this way (alternatives are through San Salvador or Santa Ana). The road is mostly one lane dirt road, but steep parts are paved with concrete or cobblestone. It is quite scenic, with fields, banana plantations, coffee fields and a nice view over the valley. So if you have the time and don't might a bumpy dirt road, you can take the short cut. No 4x4 necessary, just patience and maybe a bit of clearance. We averaged around 15 km/h, so a bit more than an hour for the 20km.

Nice spot for the night. The creek was great to listen to while sitting around the camp fire. There is enough room for at least 2 vehicles. Road to get to it was a little rocky in some areas but we had no problem in our van.

Used the coordinates from sites 4-15 … road wasn’t terrible, just a tiny bit bumpy. We arrived late around 10pm and most of the sites were filled. Really awesome views from up top, and the road noise was not bad. There were pit toilets, I did not check to see if they worked. We drove up in our 24ft coachmen cross trek.

Rafa y Mile son viajeros y tienen un taller mecánico. Ambos son muy amables! nos dieron una mano enorme con cosas de la kombi, lavamos ropa y nos dejaron dormir dentro de su garage. Super recomendables sobre todo si necesitas una mano en tu vehículo.

Large, flat, paved lot. There were a couple of other rigs spread out. Relatively quiet even though it was next to the road. Good spot for the night. Verizon signal good.

Unfortunately there’s a “no camping or overnight parking” sign posted at this trailhead.

Absolutely perfect spot, plenty of space to spread out, beautiful beach with gorgeous sunsets. No cell reception. If you're going to make a fire, please stick to the same fire pits everyone else have been using to limit damage. :)
