A big Pemax station in the city 16km South of the 200. Paid the night guard 50 Pesos for drinks. Toilets open all night. It was Saturday night so not a lot of trucks driving through the night. There is a Convenience Store at the station.

February 1st, 2020 Hôtel Loma Real

We called then to check if we can stay there overnight. They said not in our rig, only if we took a room. We didn't go.

January 8th, 2020 Marea Roja

All as described in earlier entries. Just wanted to emphasize the noise factor. It's located 40 meters from the highway in a spot where the big trucks use their engine break and it very noisy all night long. So, if you're noise sensitive, consider it.

December 28th, 2019 Bahay Fiesta

Still 10bz$ pp. If you have a meal at the restaurant, camping is free. Food is very nice and the owner friendly and wellcomming. Good for all sizes of rigs. Electricity 5bz$ pn, you'll need a 10-15 extension cable. Wi-Fi free.

December 24th, 2019 Eco-Tours boat ramp

Errol and his team are very welcoming. As described before, the tour is excellent (us50$ p.p.) And you can stay there for free before and after the tour. The place is on the river bank and it's great to have a beer there at sundown. Highly recommended.

December 21st, 2019 Taller Mecanico Milenio

An update. We had to wait for an oil filter to arrive. When it came they changed the oil and finished the work. The price for the work you and the parts was way over what we usually pay. After some negotiation, he gave us a reduction but it was still much over priced. Our mistake was that we didn't ask for a quotation before they started working. Make sure you ask for a qoute....

December 16th, 2019 Taller Mecanico Milenio

A small but very competent mechanics. We came with a 10 ton MAN camper truck with an engine problem. Martin the owner and his guys stoped their work and worked on our truck until it was fixed. They do all kind of mechanical work for all types of car. They also do computer diagnostics and they can get spare parts. Highly recommended.

August 31st, 2019 Haroa Parking

A nice grove, 80 meters from the main road (40). You camp there. There is potable water tap. No other facilities. It might be crowded if a bus of the Boy Scouts will stop for the night. There is some noise from a big water pump situated 100 meters away and from the cars on the road. 150 meters to the east across the main road there is a 24/7 Fuel station with toilet and a convenient store where you can porches food.

August 31st, 2019 Mitzpe Ramon Grove 2

On the western outskirts of the town a small grove where you can pitch your tent or sleep in your rig. Big rigs will not be able to go into the grove but there is a small clearance outside where you can park with a big rig/ You have to be totally self sufficient. If you sleep on the ground be aware that there is an irrigation system that starts early in the morning.

August 31st, 2019 Mitzpe Ramon Grove 1

Just of the main highway (40) a nice grove. You can camp outside the woods perimeter if you sleep in your car or you can pitch your tent under the trees.
No facilities but there is a 24/7 fuel station 150 away with a convenience store and toilet. It's not the quietest place since it's near the main road. If you're looking for more privacy, see a separate entry for Mitzpe Ramon grove 2

May 27th, 2019 Autolavado

Carwash just before shipping from Cartagena. Good access for any size of rig. we paid 25000cop for a big rig

May 24th, 2019 Casa El Recuerdo - Coffe & Birds

We drove here with our truck 7mxL.2.38Wx3.5H. The last 500m is a little narrow on account of branches from the trees along the road. Oliver and Gerldene the young couple who run the place are very nice and very happy to get overlanders. It's a place to have some time without many people around you with some very nice hikes around it. Oliver promised to make sure the road will be free of branches in order to accommodate big rigs without struggling. An extra bonus is a much milder temperatures then on the coast since they are at 800m telephone number is 3013498255

May 18th, 2019 casa playa camping bernabé

We came for one night and we stayed for 4. It's a beautiful place right on the beach with palm and mango trees. You can walk on the beach and buy very nice and cheap fish and the largest Langostin we've ever seen. Ilsis and her stuff are very welcoming and will do everything to make your stay enjoyable. She is also a very good cook and serves very tasty meals. Highly recommend.

May 17th, 2019 Cabo Playa Rancheria-Hotel

It's a very large property with a nice endless beach 16k South of Cabo de la Vela a few sleeping options from hammocks through dorms to private rooms. Flushing toilets and showers. The water are salty since they pump it from the ground so close to the sea. The manager was happy to accept us for camping 10000 COP pn. If you're driving a big rig you can enter from an opening in the north side of the fence. We parked at the north part of the property and could use the near by toilets. You'll have to bring with you drinking water since they don't always have it for sale. You can buy very fresh fish and Lobsters from the local indigenous fishermen a long the beach. This a a place to stay if you want tobe on your own when Cabo de la Vela is getting crowded for the weekend. We had a very good big fish with rice for 25k cop.

September 13th, 2018 Two Cordillera Panorama

We did the rout from east to est with a 10 ton camper truck. The views are indeed beautiful. the eastern part from rout PE 3N till the turn of to the glacier is heavily potholed and I wouldn't try it with a "normal" RV. It is doable with an RV, but your RV will hate it. I guess the road conditions in the wet season will deteriorate significantly as a result of mud and rock slides. As mentioned in prior entries, the part from the glacier turn of to the west is better and can be driven by any vehicle.

September 8th, 2018 Gas Station

We arrived after dark and asked the lady owner to stay for the night. She agreed and directed us to the back of the station to a yard that is lower than the station and the main road. It was quite and safe

August 18th, 2018 Off RN1 south of Oruru. Sora village

Off RN1 300m to the east in a small village. Drive to the village square and ask one of the neighbors for permission to park for the night. They were very friendly and welcoming. A nice spot if you're on your way to/from Uyuni and you want a secure place for the night. A little close to the main road but not much traffic during the night. You have to be self sufficient.

August 13th, 2018 13K from Hito Cajun

Just off a parking area on the 27 a road at rhe western edge of the parking area will lead you down bellow the main road level. It is semi hidden from the traffic depending on the hight of your vehicle and can give some protection from the wind. In addition, it served us to aclematiz fore the altitude. It is possible to pitch a tent.

August 7th, 2018 Lavanderia Loa

17,000 Pesos for 10 Kg. Next day service.
No sign outside. The house number is 1666. Very kind lady.

August 6th, 2018 Parking Casino ( Sade)

Be aware!! They are no longer letting you pay the "lost ticket" rate. They record yor entry and would calculate your stay by the hourly rate of 840 for any length of stay. They even changed the writing on the sign at the entrance to back up the change.

August 4th, 2018 Tocopilla above the water

A nice and quieter alternative to the places in town. It's a large empty parking area when we stayed here, just above the water line. Safe and quiet. no facilities. A beautiful show by the local pelicans 50m from where you park.

August 3rd, 2018 Tocopilla beach front

On the beach road. Quite from 22:00 to 07:00. 30 meters from the water. Safe and nice.

January 29th, 2018 Informal "beach" and camping

Off Ruta 82. 200m to the South on the Mendoza river. The owner will come and collect the fee. 100 Pesos per vehicle. He demanded we should camp for the night in the area where he can see from his house for (our) security. Some locals where here when we arrived early afternoon having a dip in the river on a hot day. almost all left around 22:00. Quite at night. You have to be self contained.

January 26th, 2018 river side wild camp

Flat sandy area on the river 80 metres south of ruta 7. You must have and use 4x4 since there is a steep downhill gravel road. Very quite and some protection from the wind. very beautiful views of the mountains. Space for a few big rigs. You must be completely self contained.

January 20th, 2018 Playa Tril Tril

The marked point is at the beach parking. Only 4 cars can park there. 150 m before that point to the east, there is a road to the left/South that will take you to the open grassy area. You have to cross a small stream no 4x4 required. Some locals came late to camp but very quite and nice. The place is big rig friendly.

January 8th, 2018 Electricidad Automotriz

As described before, the guy fixes everything around auto electric. He fixed our 10 t MAN truck's starter with great ability to improvise since there were no spare parts for our model. Meticulous and very nice person.

July 28th, 2017 Laguna de Rocha

This road 10 leads to the beautiful Laguna but it stops there. it is a 14km one way and you get to a dead end. On Google Maps it looks as if you can drive to the other side of the sand bar but you can't.
