We had a worrying noise when engaging the 4x4. We were staying at Home Of Friends Guesthouse and the management recommended to call in Joshua. He did a wonderful job. He checked the the complete 4x4 drive train and found the cause being a worn out coupling. He got himself the spare parts needed and repaired it. Next day we could continue our travels. He is a very honest and modest guy and charged us a price which was way too low in our opinion even according to African standards considering the work and the result. We offered him a higher and more fair price.
Since he came to us we do not know the exact location of his workshop.

They asked 10 usd pppn. We showed them the review in Ioverlander from one year ago stating a price of 25.000 Shilling. Again a huge increase in price. After negotiating they dropped to 5 usd pppn without breakfast. Still overpriced. Remember, for staying the night on a small parking lot! You might first want to check out Obama's.

Indeed nice place. Stayed there for two nights. Both nights were very noisy due to a group of people talking very loud right next to our roof top tent which lasted until after midnight. Impossible to sleep this way even with ear plugs in. Such a pity for such a nice place.

Really nice spot with a view over the NP. Manager Buru is very much willing to help you with anything. We'd like to have a beer after a days drive and he went out to buy it for us in the village.
Sometimes no one is at the place. Then you might call the owner (telnr below in other review) our you might call Buru at +256703011104.

Expensive big hotel (75.000 Shilling per room) situated on a hill with a view over the city of Bukoma and over Lake Victoria. We used it as a last stay before entering Uganda. We had to spend our left over cash and therefore excepted the price. Hotel is somewhat run down and could use an upgrade. However, fast internet available. Rooms are ok. Restaurant and bar present. Restaurant serves surprisingly good food for a fair price.

As Yosibarzam suggested we asked for room no 1 in order to connect our fridge in the car. We asked beforehand if this was possible and the answer was yes. When we actually wanted to use our cable to connect we were told in a very impolite way that this was not allowed. No discussion possible. We were quit offended and left the hotel.
By the way, the fridge in the room was out of order.

When you take this border be aware that immigration cannot yet scan your fingerprint over there. The result is that you cannot buy a local Tanzanian sim card since your fingerprint needs to be scanned and compared with the one from immigration. This system is new as they told us.

Trailblazer reported the bakery to be expensive. Probably a misunderstanding. We bought 8 Donuts, 1 loaf of bread and 10 beef filled envelopes for a total of 11.000 Shilling (just over €4,-).

We had an electrical problem with our car. I tried to fix the problem myself. However, it was beyond my electrical skills. Mr Anton was called in. He visited us at the spot and brought his companion with him. They worked on the car for 2 days and fixed the problem with a smart work-around. They worked on the car with dedication and caution. After they were ready I found a loose screw lying left behind. They took the electrical system apart again to find if they had forgotten it. They charged us a very reasonable African price for the repair. We would definitely recommend him. His phone number in case you need his skills: +260-966328853

Last visitor reported this campground to be the worst they visited in Zambia. We do not agree at all. Staff was very friendly. Beautiful private new ablution. Grassy areas. Well maintained. Canopies/lapas at your disposal. Good WiFi. Price 100 ZKw pppn. Absolutely nothing wrong with this campground.

According to the Dutch owner Annemarie the campground on this location is to be closed as of Jan 1st 2020. The campground will re-open at an other location in March or April 2020.

Agree with the statements of other travelers except for the amount of mosquitos. Yes there are mosquitos but not more than anywhere else. If you have a mosquito tight tent or camper and you spray you are good. Value for money.

Please take notice: this is what happened to us.
Like we noted before we got ourselves a mandatory insurance at the border in Zambia. In Lusaka we wanted to buy a Comesa insurance since this was not possible at the border. We did this at Innovation Insurance. At the border we also had an insurance just for Zambia from Innovation Insurance. At the office in Lusaka they told us that our Zambian insurance from the border was a total scam. Innovation does not sell insurances at the border. This means that we were not insured at all. In Lusaka we got ourselves a proper insurance. So if you get an insurance at the border from Innovation Insurances there is a great chance this is a scam.

Crossing the border from Botswana to Zambia is very chaotic. You need to pay five times and there are three currencies involved (Pula's, Kwachas and USD). The chance of getting ripped off is very realistic. On top there are lots of touts offering and pushing for taking their services. The crossing might be done by yourself independently but taking one these touts is very temping to help you cross the border. We found a very reliable one. He was recommended by other travelers. He helped us in a great way. Everything that needs to be payed in Kwachas he payed for us because you cannot get Kwachas in Botswana except with those touts offering a bad rate. After crossing the border we withdrew Kwachas from an ATM and payed him back. Our left over Pula's we changed to Kwachas with him at a one to one rate. He was asking 20 USD for his service but we negotiated 15 USD. Only the fact that he payed the ferry in Kwachas for us instead of USD saved us 10 USD because of the bad exchange rate for dollars.

Price went up to P120 pppn. A bit overpriced. Lots of bugs and flies. We came across a few scorpions so watch out when going to the ablutions at night. In our case the staff was friendly.

Price is still P210,- for two people. When we were there quite some nasty mosquitos. From the bar and from outside loud music was playing against one another. No sign of any train (yet).

They have a discount for elderly people R120,- pppn. Nice shop, Liquor store and snackbar serving hamburgers and Hake'n chips.

Price still R90 pppn. WiFi available but slow. Not expensive but the place could use an upgrade.

Campground specifically for motorhomes. Located remotely from the city of Hulst. Very quiet. Very well maintained. Grassy area with showers (coin driven) and toilet. Prices €15,- per night per site including electricity. Room for about 20 motorhomes. Dump station on site. Filling up your fresh water tank needs to be paid for extra. Free open WiFi.

Road side restaurant with very good food for a very acceptable price. Huge portions. No menu but a buffet. Very informal place where lots of locals go. It's open all week (except for Monday) but only on Sundays as of 1:00 pm this buffet is open. The other days sandwiches and pancakes are being served. Also possible to camp informal.

Again we used this border crossing now to enter RSA from Namibia. Again we were asked to prove that our car is roadworthy. This time we were prepared and gave the officer our carnet de passage which he accepted as a proof of roadworthyness.

Price went up from 100 to R110 pppn. No other changes.

Price still N$180. WiFi available however at a cost of N$40.
Indeed lovely place to stay.

We wanted to make a reservation upfront to be sure we could get hold of campsite nr 3 since the zebras pass by very close at night this site. However finding a valid telephone number on the net proved to be difficult. Now open again. Beautiful nice clean campground. Price still N$160 ppn. Great self drive especially the Southern loop (N$350 per day).

Very sandy road. 4x4 absolutely required. only low speeds possible.

We were in need of internet to check on a problem back home. We reached the place at 5pm. At the reception the very friendly lady told us that internet is only available from 6pm till 6am. Since we only needed internet for a few minutes just to check the situation back home she went to ask the owner to make an exception. He refused. We drove on to the next campground nearby.

Referring to the comment of the attempt for robbery on 12 January. We just spoke to Vital the owner and asked him about this. He acknowledged the event and claims that the robbers have been caught a few days later and are still imprisoned. We felt perfectly safe here. Really nice campground.

Like stated before but to be emphasized are the very corrugated road conditions throughout the whole park. To us this spoiled a lot of the fun visiting the park. We needed to focus on the road instead of the wildlife viewing. If you love your car you might consider a guided tour instead of a self drive.
