Wifi is fast. Safe parking in the courtyard for motorbikes, cars, vans and maybe even trucks (entrance around 3.35m). Good place to stay before or after taking the ferry to or from Baja.

Hotel Independencia

Nice, new hotel in the centre of town with clean basic rooms. We looked for an affordable place which had wifi and safe parking for our motorbikes. The owner allowed us to park inside. Entering the hotel can be a challenge, so better go and have a look first. Fast wifi, hot shower, in walking distance of the old town. We paid 400mx for a small double room. (If you do not need internet but only safe parking the Hotel Dos Rios across the street is an option with a double room for 450mx and easy access with the bike or car)

Paraiso Miramar Hotel & RV Park

Great spot at the ocean, friendly owner, fast wifi, hot shower, several swimming pools. 100mx p/person for camping, worth the money

Morrill RV Park

We went here to camp but did not stay here, because we did not think it was safe to leave our gear here if we would visit the town. During the day the place is used as parking lot by neighbours. The gate is open all day without any security. Great place if you are in a van, not so ideal for tent camping. (We ended up staying at Hotel Independencia in town)

Hotel San Antonio II

A love motel, which means safe parking close to the highway. Double room with kingsize bed, private bathroom, hot water, tv, wifi is mx150 for the room for the night. (Or you can rent by the hour:)) Friendly owners. The hotel is a bit old and not super clean, but for this price we decided to stay There are more Love Motels in the area, also newer and more modern (some were 500mx for 18 hours...). Supermarket next door and Taco place across the street.

Hotel Dos Rios

Nice hotel with safe parking in the centre of town. We did not stay here, because they did not have internet when we were here, but it looked quite nice. Friendly staff, secure parking. Double room for 450mx.

Hotel Arroyo

If you end up here this is a good option. A bit old, but clean. We paid 250mx for a double room with private bathroom and aircon, but cheaper or more expensive rooms available. Warm shower, reasonably fast wifi and secure parking.

Rossco Hostel

It is true: first night FREE for motobike riders! Really nice backpackers hostel. Bed in 4bed dorm is 175mx, double room with shared bathroom is 350mx, with private bathroom is 400mx. Fast wifi, hot shower, breakfast included, tv room, pool table, and off course free parking!

Hotel Los Arcos

Big hotel at the central plaza. A bit old, but clean rooms with private bathrooms with warm water. Simple room two persons 240mx, medium is with tv and fan for 290mx and 350 for a double room with tv and aircon. Also singles and triples available. Safe parking, wifi in the lobby, restaurant, safe parking

Suytun Cenotes

We had to explain a few times that we are on two motorbikes and thus do not have a campervan but a small tent, but when they understood we were allowed to camp two nights for 50mxp per person per night including entrance to the cenotes. It was a bit hard to find a suitable place for our tent, but mostly because the staff had to call the owner a few times to answer my questions. Cold shower, upgraded FAST wifi and great swimming pool. We visited in low season and were the only ones. Friendly staff, bar and restaurant on site.

Mundo Maya

Nice hotel/hostel with safe parking. Spacious and clean rooms with aircon, shower with hot water, private bathroom, really fast wifi. We paid 400 pesos for a double room with private bathroom (which was one of the cheaper options with safe parking). Good value for money, better than Hotel Las Ruinas next door. In walking distance of all the shops and restaurants.

Lamanai Riverside Retreat

Nice grassy area directly at the river, next to the restaurant. Camping and cabanas. Friendly owners Clean toilets and basic cold shower. Gates are closed at night and there is a night guard. 10 belize dollar p/p for camping, 90belize dollar for a cabana. Electricity hookup availible but costs more. Charging electric devices at restaurant bar is free. Wifi, boat tours to Lamanai ruins, restaurant, laundry services.

Hotel Calle Ancha

Nice family run hostel, clean rooms with private bathroom from 250Q, fast wifi, warm water with electric showerhead, secure parking for a big number of motorbikes and possibly cars (height restriction 2,5 m), in walking distance of the centre and restaurants.

Hospedaje San Jorge

Nice clean hostel with friendly owner. There is a swimming pool, save parking for motorcycles and cars (hight restriction gate is 2,5 m). Double rooms vary from 12 to 15 usd per room, including private bath room. Dorms as well. Located close to old center and directly at the market. Good wifi.

La Flor Turtle Sanctuary (de Vida Silvestre)

Playa La Flor is one of only two beaches in Nicaragua where large numbers of turtles come to lay eggs. Possibly even thousands in one night, depending on the moon(Please see attached photo for a schedule when to expect mass arrival of turtles). You can watch the turtles come ashore and if you are lucky even help to set little turtles free. You can camp on the beach (if you have a tent) or stay in your car on the parking area. 200 Cordobas/person entree fee and 500 Cordobas/tent, no facilities. This might seem expensive, but is only a fraction of what you would pay in Panama or Costa Rica. Well worth the experience, also because we were the only ones there!

WARNING: watch your stuff!! We woke up in the middle of the night while a guy was going through one of our bags. You can leave gear at the rangers office, or ask them to watch your things while you go turtle watching.

Finca Cañas Castilla

Great!. One of those place you do not want to miss. Beautiful Finca, friendly Swiss owners, spacious campsite, clean toilets and showers, they are building a communal kitchen, walking trails on their property, lots of birds around, a crocodile in the river, a baby sloth they rescued and wild sloths as well. And a very good price. We recommend going here (for more than one night)

Hotel 888

If you end up in Almirante and you have to spend the night here (and you cannot stay in your car or RV) this is an option. Big hotel, lots of room, 25$ for a double room with private bathroom and aircon, slow wifi, very noisy, do not take room 7 (because if you unplug the tv to use the electricity, the other guests cannot watch tv) safe parking for two or three motorbikes.

Las Lajas Beach Cabins

Large open area with grass and palmtress right at the beach, cabañas facing the ocean. Water, toilets, cold showers, cafe for drinks. We camped in our tent for 4$ per person. We arrived on a Thursday and it was very quiet, might be busy in the weekend.

EcoVenao

Campsite and hostel in a green forest with monkeys, across the street they have access to the beach, with a surfschool at site. We camped for $6 per person in our tent (13,20$ incl. taxes) they also have dorms, double rooms and cabins. Kitchen, slow wifi, cold shower, restaurant with good but expensive food. They allow you to leave your vehicle here if you want to stay a night on the island.

Stahlratte

We absolutely recommend sailing with the Stahlratte between Panama and Colombia to cross the Darien Gap! Four days on the yacht, one day of sailing on open ocean, other days for anchor at the San Blas Islands, a dream location! On board are double beds and bunk beds, fresh water, great food, lots of place to relax, great swimming and snorkling and super friendly crew with Captain 'Lulu' Ludwig. The bikes were properly secured on the yacht and easily on- and offloaded. Good value for money!!

Torres del Lago

Nice apartment building with spacious air-conditioned apartments. We shared an apartment with three other overlanders while we waited to sail to Panama on the Stahlratte. Our apartment had two bedrooms (each with a double bed and a single bed), two bathrooms, kitchen, washing machine, spacious living room, great WiFi, a balcony with ocean view. It was 200.000 COP per night for the apartment (price probably depends on the season). Free access to swimming pool and gym. Safe parking for motorbikes and cars. In walking distance of the beach, shops and a short taxi ride away from the old centre. You can book in advance (using for example Booking.com), but we just showed up there and negotiated the price for 6 nights.

Voladero las Águilas Ruitoque

NO TENTS! A nice grassy area next to the launching field of the parapentes with an incredible view over the city. The friendly owner allowed us to camp in our tent if we promised to change the info in iOverlander to inform others that you cannot camp in your tent here, because they worry they cannot offer a secure place with all the daytourists that come to watch the view. Campers, RVs, trucks etc are still very welcome. 10.000 cop, cold shower, wifi and great view!
