February 25th, 2020 Official MAN Garage

Second very well equipped official MAN Garage in Pakistan. All staff members are competent, most flexible and speak of course English.
They helped us to find good tyres (brand, no Chinese) and ordered various service parts for our car. As a part of the hydraulic system of our lift was broken, they helped with a third party workshop that repaired the broken part perfectly.
We can highly recommend this company, also for any other service works.

Attention: the workshop is not clearly visible from the EBM Causeway as it is hidden in the yard of a complex of storage halls and workshops.

Address: EBM Causeway، Sector 5 Korangi, Karachi, Karachi City, Sindh, Pakistan

February 20th, 2020 Campsite at Byco petrol station

Perfect spot to stay overnight if you are coming/going from/to Karachi on Highway N-5.

Very modern and clean Byco petrol station with friendly and helpful staff.
Small garden where you can put your tent and wash your laundry.
Comfortable and clean Guestroom with 2 beds, living room with TV and bathroom (Western style) is also available; they charge around 5 Dollars per night just to cover their maintenance cost. Local restaurants close by.

As they charge nothing for using their facilities, it is appreciated if you would fill your tanks. We advise to do so; on the very new highway M-5 between Sukkur and Multan, all rest areas/petrol stations were then under construction only (February 2020).

Rizwan, the owner, who lives in Karachi, has connections all over Pakistan; he likes to have contact with tourists from other countries. His mobile number is +92 331 733 33 33. Whatever you want to know about Karachi, ask him.

February 2nd, 2020 33 Indian dishes in one Thali

Probably the best and most richful veg Thali we had during our 4 months trip in India. Price is now 150 Rupees for 33 dishes what is nothing for what you get. Very friendly staff!

February 2nd, 2020 33 Indian dishes in one Thali

January 22nd, 2020 Rahul's place at Govindmani Lawns

Perfect location to stay if you need a quiet and spacious place. Rahul, owner of Govindmani Party Lawns & Banquet Hall, is a great host in any way. As he is an overland addict, overlanders are most welcome to his place. He builds the first big expedition mobile based on a Bharatbenz truck for himself.
Shops, restaurants etc. are close by.
Give him a call before you go to this place; if events take place, Rahul can show you another place to stay on his second lawn.

January 20th, 2020 Karfule Pump / Cleaning / Parking

For sure the best place where you can stay in Mumbai. Very nice area with beautiful houses, quiet at night. Many worth to see places can be reached by walk.
And probably the nicest host in whole town: Daniel, owner of the art deco Karfule Gas Station, is simple great! He can show you places you would never visit without him.
Give him a call before you go to this place; space is limited.

January 1st, 2020 Wild Leaf Guesthouse

Nice little guesthouse, managed by very friendly Ansar, a good English speaking local.
The small guest house has 4 double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The rooms are simple, quite big and nicely furnished, not overcrowded. The guesthouse is located a little bit set back from the hotels directly on the cliff, and because of that very quiet!
Small(er) overlanders and bikes of course can park in the garden; you can pitch your tent around the house.
The rooms cost - depending on the season - about 800 Rupees.
Ansar also cooks for his guests on request. He has spoiled us with four different freshly caught fish and crabs as well as other local specialities and fresh fruits.
Ansar is helpful with all questions and helps, no matter what you need.
Yoga space also available.

August 14th, 2019 Autozone Pvt. Ltd. (Workshop and storage for overlander cars)

We contacted the company because we wanted to keep our vehicle in a safe place (guarded or closed area) for 2 months. After 5 weeks (!) we finally received a first answer to three e-mails (after we "threatened" with an entry on iOverlander) that it would be possible and a little later what it costs (USD 300/month).
When we asked to confirm that a safe place is definitely available for our vehicle, we were promised that we would receive an answer within 2 days (they wanted to take the measures). We have been waiting since 3 weeks for this answer...
The company makes a very unserious and unprofessional impression.

August 10th, 2019 Wild Planet Eco Lodge, Bardya Nationalpark

The Wild Planet Eco Lodge is a new facility, simple but built with attention to detail. The lodge is run by Krishna, a young Nepali and his friends.
The lodge has a very nice campground for tents (we paid 100 rupees/night for our large camper), bungalows with private bathrooms and a restaurant. Electricity and Wifi available.
Krishna, an experienced guide himself, organizes Jungle Walks. If you would like to do one, which is highly recommended, ask for Baba. Baba, a passionate guide who knows a lot about tigers, showed us wonderful places, explained animal tracks and showed us what to look out for. Yes, we actually saw a tiger!
Krishna, Baba and his friends pay a lot of attention to nature and also to the fact that it is not disturbed too much by tourist activities, propagate "soft" tourism.

August 7th, 2019 Suda Farm Sanctum •Resort•

Shortly after crossing the border to Nepal, we were stranded in this little paradise. Right next to the main road, but hidden in the green.
The Suda Farm is a wonderful place to relax. Here we could also wash our laundry in peace.
The whole complex is very well maintained and has a cosy restaurant with an excellent kitchen in which everything is freshly prepared. The owners and the staff are very friendly and helpful. And we would like to emphasize that the staff is very well trained.
We were not asked to stay overnight in our own vehicle.

August 7th, 2019 SIM Card and Money Change

IMEpay Shop next to the highway. Ask for Gokul dev Joshi (owner)! He is most professional and helpful. He can activate the card immediately and he doesnt overcharge!! A photo and passport of course is necessary to buy the SIM card.

July 19th, 2019 Swiss Hotel Kashmir

Hotel Swiss is a pretty hotel in a quiet area of Srinagar. The Dal lake where some of the beautiful houseboats are located, is within 2 minutes walking distance, the old town and various sights can be reached comfortably and conveniently with the Tuk-Tuk.

The hotel is a family business and is run by Rouf and his father, two very well English speaking men who have their heart at the right place. They help overlanders wherever they can with tips and advice in all sorts of matters.

The Hotel Swiss has very comfortable, clean rooms, a garden and a yard where vehicles can park safely (guarded/locked). Even our big truck (9.00m long, 2.50m wide and 3.80m high) had space enough; only in the access road the cables were a bit too deep, but with the help of Rouf and his staff, they were lifted and passing was no problem.

The Hotel Swiss offers a good free WiFi, water, toilets/showers etc.

We can warmly recommend this place to all overlanders.

July 10th, 2019 Official MAN Garage

An extremely well equipped, very modern MAN garage (official MAN workshop/agency) with super competent and friendly, English speaking staff.
In addition to the common service works on our motorhome based on MAN TGS, we were helped with the repair of the compressor of our refrigerator, the repair of a tyre, the hydraulic closing of our waste water tank etc.
Since the MAN agencies in India have been closed and the existing MAN garages are no longer MAN-authorized garages, we can highly recommend this garage in Lahore.

June 28th, 2019 Khunjerab Cafe

Restaurant where the locals eat. Quite busy whole day. Excellent yak stew, rice, daal and cooked mixed veggies for a good price! Very friendly staff.

June 27th, 2019 Pamir Serai guesthouse

Nice guesthouse and super friendly hosts - Alam Jan his wife and the little daughter CumCum!
Alam Jan speaks a good English and knows this region (including tracks to Afghanistan) perfectly.
At Pamir Serai guesthouse, we ate the best Daal we ever had!

June 25th, 2019 Beautiful, hidden campsite

Hidden campsite with almost panoramic view to beautiful mountains. Quiet, locals respect your privacy.

June 18th, 2019 Galaxy Inn Hotel & Restaurant

Very friendly, English speaking owner. Good kitchen with traditional food.
Try the boiled chicken with ginger and coriander. It's delicous.

June 14th, 2019 Mountain View Guesthouse

Nice, very clean guesthouse on the main road in the village Booni, but very quiet. Led by the young brothers Ikram and Sami, two very friendly passionate motorbikers. They know the area very well, give tips and are very helpful.
The food in this guesthouse is very good.
It is possible to park also larger vehicles in the garden of the guesthouse. The parking lot is very safe.

June 14th, 2019 Road from Booni to Mastuj

This road is definitely not drivable for vehicles over 2.30m width and 3.50m height. The road is narrow, partly very narrow and the rocks hang in places into the road. Even a wheelbase of more than 3.50-4.00m is not ideal, because the curves are very narrow and the road drops steeply towards the river.
Turning the vehicle on this road is almost impossible.
We tried to pass the road (width 2.50m, height 3.80m, axle distance 4.50m) and had to turn back after 4 km (with shovels to create larger space to turn), which was an absolute nightmare.
It took us 7 hours.

June 9th, 2019 Peak Pir Chinasi

The Peak Pir Chinasi, about 3000 meters high, offers a breathtaking panoramic view. At the summit there is a little shrine. There are few parking possibilities for cars, but the place is not really nice.
The Peak Pir Chinasi can be reached via a very well constructed asphalted road. The road is partly steep and there are countless, partly very narrow curves.

June 9th, 2019 Coyote Trail Organic Farm

A most beautiful place and the gateway of Swat in Shamozai, the village Terang which comes on the link road between Zarakhela Chowk and Khazana. A very quiet place in the middle of a peach plantation.

Suitable for all types of vehicles, even very large ones. Large lawns are available for tents. The property is protected and guarded. Guest rooms with bathroom are also available.

Electricity, drinking water, WIFI and mobile network (fast) are available. Shower and toilet (very clean) can be used.

The brothers Niaz Ali and Shujaat Ali, owners of this beautiful plantation, are great hosts and the epitome of Pakistani hospitality. The family has cooked for us and spoiled us with Pakistani Organic Food cuisine.

Niaz Ali – passionate offroad traveller (and engineer by profession) - took us with his jeep to magic places we would never have found otherwise. On the family’s land, there is the Nimogram stupa which is absolutely worth to visit.

The best time to visit this place is during the peach harvest from June to September. But of course, all other months are perfect too.

An absolute dream place for all overlanders!

Access to the property: After the heavy machinery factory «Israr International» turn right into the dirt road, around the factory and along the road.

June 4th, 2019 Coyote Trail

This is a great place to stay in a quiet residential area. Suitable for vehicles the size of a jeep or for overnight stays in your own tent. A sleeping room with shower is also available.
Sana is a great host who is very well linked in the city of Islamabad and Pakistan in general. As an offroad enthusiast he has many tips about suitable routes, places etc..
If you want to know a lot about Pakistan, Sana is a great help.

June 3rd, 2019 Police Checkpoint

No NOC needed anymore (since March 2019). Its only allowed to stay close around Muzzaffarabad.

June 2nd, 2019 Tourism Department, Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir

No NOC is necessary anymore to enter Kashmir with your own vehicle. At the border you will be registered and you should have a copy of your passport with you.

We were warmly welcomed by the Tourism & Archaeology Department, Mr Pizarda Ishad Ahmad, and invited for a snack. We have been informed that a contact address in Kashmir would be required what we of course not had; if you do not have one, you should contact this tourist office; they will sort it out.

Mr Mukhtar Ahmed Qureshi, Deputy Director M&E officer DRUSERRA, business-related to this department, stays to your attention for any questions. You can reach him over [email protected]

We were only allowed to move in the area around Muzafarabad. We drove up to Peak Pir Chinasi.

May 25th, 2019 Al Dawood Hotel

We stayed overnight in the area behind the hotel (veterinary hospital, very dirty) as our car was too big to park in the yard of the hotel. The manager told us that he would be the owner of the land and wanted to charge us with 500 Rupees. Locals as well as police told us that this is not true so we paid nothing to the hotel. Levies were sitting beside our car the whole night.
Hotel is terrible dirty!

May 24th, 2019 Guide border crossing Pakistan

Hamid is definitely the best! He will help you with all administration works relating custom/border. Hamid is not a ‚fixer’, he is an official tourist manager from the government. He is a most friendly and competent person, well connected with authorities, and speaks an excellent English! You can ask him everything and he will help you.
Hamid would never ask for money for his services. But please do not misuse this. For us, it was a self-evidence to pay him a compensation.

May 21st, 2019 Akhavan Hotel

Absolutely perfect place to stay in Kerman, close to city center. Behind hotel in the middle of trees, potable water, toilets and showers available, nicest staff, also the owners. Friendly, always helpful. Also the food they serve is delicious.
Meeting point for travellers; we met two travellers who have the same travel plans - Pakistan. Perfect!
We highly recommend this place!

May 20th, 2019 Money exchange

Serious place to change money. Very good rates. Friendly staff. We changed Rupies for Pakistan and India. Recommendable!

May 17th, 2019 Marco Polo Rooftop Rest. In Orient Hotel

Nice rooftop and yard. Delicious Iranian food, one of the best we had in Iran. We ordered different dishes and every of them was very good. Also the prices were good! Staff very kind. Higly recommended!

May 16th, 2019 Baam café restaurant

Nice rooftop terrace but unfortunately very bad food (lamb with chicken peas and lamb fesenjan). So we were happy that the dishes were small. We cannot recommend this restaurant.
