April 18th, 2017 | The Yellow House, Valparaiso | "Bed and breakfast"??? Are you serious? That's your input!? Why? |

April 3rd, 2017 | Gas Station near Tres Lagos | Cash only |

March 9th, 2017 | Camping Los Alerces | Super beautiful place beside the Rio Azul. Comments true (huge, shady) but facilities are not well maintained at all. Guys looking after the place were friendly but pretty irresponsible. Played loud music one night and drums (not bongo, actual big drums, shake-the-house-down drums) and bass guitar the next, starting at 1am. The bathroom block was constantly filthy but the showers were hot. Not 24 hrs as signed (9:30am-12 and 7-11pm) and like us, you may have to remind them to turn on the gas or they may just continue to watch movies in the common area. Beautiful surroundings and happy to camp but all in all, not worth 100pp per night. |

March 7th, 2017 | LaveRap El Bolsón | Great laundry. 100 per basket. Friendliest owner ever (Carmen). Also gives good rate to change money. We changed USD for a far better rate than anywhere else in town. She also allows the use of her WIFI. She offered to make us lunch and I wouldn't even be surprised if she allowed us to stay in her yard. |
February 27th, 2017 | Oil Change Or Tire Repair | Mario the owner is a pleasure to deal with. Super honest and friendly. His employees are no different. Fit us in straight away for an oil change and charged local prices. Even gave us a bottle of wine for the business! |
February 23rd, 2017 | Camping Tongoy | Well established camping area. Relatively expensive at 18000 per night for two people and a van but in our opinion, worth it. Right on the beach, clean bathrooms (included in price unlike next door at Ripipal in Tongoy), shelters, electricity and a light at each site, potable water, and on arrival they will bring chairs, tables, a bin for rubbish and a BBQ. Some spots with shade from trees. Small cafe on site. |
February 20th, 2017 | ABC Carwash | Great carwash in parking lot of shopping centre. Good price, friendly people. 10000 pesos for full wash of our filthy van after Bolivia. |
February 17th, 2017 | Hostal Quinua Dorada | 160 Bolivianos for people for 2 nights in a matrimonial with shared bathroom and secure parking for our van. Super simple but friendly and clean. Common/lounge room on each floor with TV and wifi. |
February 8th, 2017 | Samay Wasi Hotel | Really nice hotel. Allowed us to stay in their secure parking. No electricity, no shower but flushing toilet, wifi and use of pool, BBQ and common area. 30 soles. |
February 4th, 2017 | Camping Guadelupe Jaime Veliz Caraz | Camping Guadelupe is one of the best places we've stayed in our entire trip. Super peaceful, incredibly clean bathroom, fast wifi, electricity hookup, and Turka- the worlds friendliest dog. Yet all this is dwarfed by how friendly and helpful Jaime is. He never hesitated to stop and give us mountains of info about the region, and suggestions on the route ahead. Super safe place to store the vehicle for trekking. Our only regret is that we can't stay longer. |
January 27th, 2017 | Shortcut To Huaraz | This was a great shortcut! It is unsealed but really good for most of the way although there are a few places that are a bit rough. No 4wd required at all. Fully open at the moment. Just check in and provide your name and number plate at each end. Much more interesting than the highway. |
January 24th, 2017 | Hosteria Candamo | Great place. Super friendly hosts. Right off the panamerican and a short drive to the border. $5pp. |
January 14th, 2017 | Campsite P.N. Cotopaxi | Open! Excellent free camping. Simple restaurant/coffee shop, flushing toilets, cold showers closed, small shelter with table, sink and fireplace. Can park up close to buildings or anywhere on the land around. Small stand of pine trees was our preference. Great spot! |
January 12th, 2017 | Hacienda La Condessa | Looks really nice but wouldn't let us stay in our van. Rooms only. Disappointing but ended up staying at the restaurant at the base of the hill. Super nice people, pretty loud but uneventful night. |
January 10th, 2017 | Hotel Las Canaris | About the lease friendly people we have met in Ecuador. Pretty surprising. $45 for a double room. |
January 10th, 2017 | Finca Sommerwind | Beautiful finca with grassy camping (powered) and cabins. Fully equipped kitchen, clean bathrooms, hot showers, great view, quiet at night. What more could you want. $5pp/night. |
January 10th, 2017 | Cuna del Sol Completo Turistico | Completely shut when we got there at 4pm. None of the phone numbers worked. Looked really nice though. |
January 9th, 2017 | Las Lajas parking of teleférico | Great free spot for the night. Amazing views, friendly guards, clean toilets. Closed during the night but the guards will open the gate if you need to leave early. |
January 8th, 2017 | Hostal Kundur Chachagui | Carlos is super friendly and more than helpful. His place is beautiful with all the amenities you could ask for. |
October 10th, 2016 | Pacific Dreams | Great place in great location. Walk to shops and a range of food options. Short drive (14min) to Albrook Mall or to vehicle inspection facility. Friendly staff. Secure parking for small rigs but safe neighbourhood so on street parking shouldn't be a problem. |
September 19th, 2016 | Beach campsite | Free camping on the beach under coconut palms. Quiet on a Monday night. A few people walking along the road but pretty chilled. If you swing a few $ to Hotel Rancho Coral, they may even let you use their toilet and outside shower. |
September 13th, 2016 | La Fraternidad, San Marcos de Colon, Honduras to El Espino, Nicaragua | So far as Central American border crossings go, I agree with previous comments. Much more relaxed and better infrastructure than elsewhere. No tramitadores! |
September 12th, 2016 | Hotel Puerto Real | Upper market hotel with clean rooms, AC, big TVs, bar and restaurant (not open when we were here on a Monday), big pool (not really clean) and big secure parking right outside of rooms. A little expensive (750L for a room for the night) but well located right on the CA1 highway. Great place for the night between border crossings. |
September 11th, 2016 | Casa Verde Hostal | This place is fantastic! Some of the cleanest rooms and best common areas we've seen. Not one but 2 fully equipped kitchens. Carlos (the owner) is incredibly friendly and speaks great English and native Spanish. There is fully secure parking on site for small vehicles and a fully secure parking lot 30m down the street for free if you stay. Right in town and a half an hour drive to the lake. Don't go past this place if in Santa Ana! |
August 29th, 2016 | Lacantun money exchange | Money exchange with good rates. USD, Euros and Quetzal |
August 23rd, 2016 | La Jungla, Catemaco | Incredible place to stay! Just watch the entrance because google Maps may try to turn you in a bit earlier. No doubt, being overlanders, you'll drive a bit further and find the entrance. Personal note: we had some uniformed locals in Catemaco offer to escort us because of "road closures". Not saying that there hasn't been any recent closures but getting to this place without assistance was easy (along a sealed road). Follow the usual navigation from Catemaco, look for the signs La Jungla, take the road closest to the sign and just keep driving straight into the jungle after turning off. It goes in a fair way but keep going. Enjoy! |
August 20th, 2016 | Mecánica Especializada | Mucio runs a great mechanical workshop at very good prices. He completed a full service and checked everything on our Ford E250. Very reliable and honest. Cash only! |
August 18th, 2016 | Trailer Park Teotihuacan | Great option for central trailer park. Super friendly owner. Relatively small but grassy, good bathrooms with warm water, easy walking distance to the plaza for great street food. Also good woof fired BBQ (Argentinian) just across the street. Super close to the ruins although I suggest walking one way and taxi back if you spend all day exploring. |
August 12th, 2016 | Delia's Trailer Park Etzatlan | Honestly, the most comfortable camping we've done since leaving the coast. Very calm and tranquil rural setting. Grassy and shady. 5 rescued dogs who are super friendly and owners even friendlier. We had the place to ourselves so the 1 bathroom/toilet was immaculate and we kept it that way. Not far (~40mins) to tequila. TAKE THE LIBRE, NOT THE CUOTA to Tequila. Just as fast and more beautiful. |
August 7th, 2016 | Sayulita Trailer Park | Great place to spend a few days! Thies is super friendly and may even give you some advice - local AND life. Right in the beach with the best ceviche. Good bathrooms and common areas. Just watch weekends as it may get a bit hectic during the night next door at Sayulita Surf Club. |
