Great stop on the way to the coast. Cheap, delicious and filling! 6blz for breakfast plate with 2 big tortillas!

entrada al volcan masaya

Great spot to spend the night after doing the volcano night tour. You park just outside the gate in the shade. The staff was very welcoming and happy to let us stay the night. Secure as there is a night guard. There doesn’t seem to be any time restrictions anymore for the tour. We went up and spent about 30 mins at the museum and an hour by the lava hole. You can also do a quick hike just before sundown if you have time which has an amazing view.

Balbo’s Liberia

Good stop close to the boarder. Wifi, water for tank, restaurent on site. Very nice chatty owner. Gated and space for big rigs. There was a guy there with a 30 foot travel trailer. He was also plugged in so I’m assuming electricity is available. 3500 pp

Parking slot

There are two lots on the beach near here. We parked at the one closer to the brewery. Spot right on the beach, guy watches your rig during the day for a tip and seemed safe at night. I think the brewery has night security. Stayed 2 nights

Camping Elimar

Good spot just outside Santa Teresa. Good wifi, can fill water tank, showers. 4000 pp. note the roads to Santa Teresa are horrible. Plan a few days here to make the drive worth while.

Turnoff for Santa Teresa

This is the turnoff you want to take to get to Santa Teresa. Still a bit rough but mostly paved.

100% Aventura - Canopy Tour

Arrived around 4pm and they happily aloud us to stay overnight in there parking lot. Plenty of space for any rig. We did the 10 or 11 am tour the next day. Fast wifi that reached the van overnight. You can park your rig in there parking overnight but are kindly asked to park by the road during the day to leave room for the tour buses to get in and out. Very secure.

La Colina

This place is absolutely amazing. Insane view from the secluded camping area as well as the little viewing deck. Clean toilets, showers, wifi, fill water tank, unlimited free coffee. The owners are also unbelievably kind. They gave us some aguacates from their farm when we arrived and in the morning brought us some breakfast tacos. Just such kind people. 6000 per rig, road here is paved from Juntas, a little steep but big rig friendly (maybe max 30 feet length). One of our favorite stops by far. So great!

Arábigos Coffee House

Great coffee, fast wifi and amazing staff. They roast their coffee every morning!

Arenal 1968

Great view of the volcano & cool lava trails. Nice hike but short - 5km. We thought it was a bit pricey for the length. (15$pp)

Monteverde Reserve

Arrived around 5pm and they said we could stay overnight outside the gate by the road and visit the park in the morning. Secure as there are visitors and security all night for the night tours. There was plenty of pace for our rig (6.5m long). Wifi at the visitors centre. Free

Free Hot Springs

Amazing free hot springs! It’s a hot river with little natural baths through the rocks. We gladly gave a tip to the guy watching the cars on the road. Must do if in the area!!

Parking Iglesia La Fortuna

Free street parking by the church. Stayed 3 nights didn’t have any problems. Our rig is 6.5 meters and anything bigger would have to find another spot. Longer rigs would need to parallel parking on the next street over.

Hotel Heroes, "La pequeña Helvecia"

Great spot! Free and you can use the super nice pool, use bathrooms and outdoor shower, fill water tank. Super fast wifi, plenty of room for any size rig. We were there on a weekend and the train was working. We went up to the rotating restaurent and had lunch. Great view, cool unique experience.

Playa Cocles

Spent one night here off the road under the trees a little closer to town than where this point is. Not great as you are right on the road. We later moved on to Punta Uva which was way better for us.

Hostel California

Needed a spot with wifi for the evening. 6000 per rig. Plenty of room in the parking lot. You can use the facilities. Not great but definitely does the job if you need a secure spot, wifi and bathrooms.

Grass spot on the beach

Free spot by the beach. It’s a grassy areas off the road with plenty of space. Stayed one night, no problems.

Small parking area right next to the beach

Free beech parking lot. Great swimming and some snorkelling here. Small lot but we were fine in our 6.5m long rig. Spent 4 days here and loved it!

Water Taxi Parking

Left our big ford transit camper here for 3 days and booked a hotel on the island. Came back late to the mainland and slept in the lot on the 4th night. Unlike the other comments, there is a gated lot across the street that can fit rigs like our and bigger. Maybe even upwards of 30 feet long no height restriction. Perfectly safe place to leave your rig! Paid 5$ per day since we were considered big. Usual price still 3$.

La Casa De Juan

Spent two days here exploring the town. The hostel is really close to the India Dormida hike which was convenient. We fit inside the hotel grounds with our big ford transit. The staff was very nice, really fast wifi.

Taberna La Malaguena

Spanish food - Great menu Del dia for 7.50$, includes a glass of wine or beer, a tapa, Plato fuerte that changes daily and desert!

La Rana Dorada

Brewery with happy hour 12-6pm - half off their house beers which were actually very good, they also serve food (didn’t try but looked delicious!) they have a few locations with different deals.

Behind Radisson Hotel

In our opinion, this is the best spot to stay while in Panama City. Spent one week here. Seems very safe overnight. We would spend the night here but park the van closer to the Balboa Yatch club in view of the hotel security guard during the day and Uber into the city. And yes, open wifi still works!

Olga’s café y desayuno

Decent breakfast, Olga is the sweetest lady and will make you feel right at home ! 1$ coffee free refills

Grassy Area

Stayed one night close to here. We stayed in the gravel pull out across the street from the large hotel. Not very private but was fine for us. Free! Restaurent across the street had live music till very late but I’m sure that doesn’t happen to often.

Pension Topas

10$ pn, fast wifi, good location. We fit inside with our big ford transit 3.1m high 7m long. Much bigger will be difficult.

Baru visitor center

Stayed here one night after doing the Quetzales trail. Trail took 5 hours there and back. Not sure if this always happens but the ranger slept in the ranger station all night. Free hike and overnight.

Cascata del Bosco

Stayed here 2 nights before crossing the border. Very nice owner and incredible property. Still free if you consume at the restaurent. Pricy but absolutely delicious!

Iyok Ami Hostel

5000$ pppn. Great hiking trails on the property. Refreshing weather and a nice common area with great view in the cabin. No wifi. They also serve food upon request. Delicious trout plate!

Truchas Selva Madre

Nice hiking trails on the property with a few water falls. Trout fishing if you want as well as areas to cook it on bbq. 8000 per kilo of fish. Camping was 5000$ pppn. Can fill up on water. Wifi worked for us. Road is steep but we made it really easily with our 7m ford transit even during rain. Steep parts are roughly paved so I wouldn’t imagine ever needing 4x4.
