Mabasehube Pan Camp Site No 3

Beautiful location overlooking the Pan. There are four camp sites spaced around the pan. There is a braii and long drop toilet and shower (bring your own water). Heard lions roar at night and a brown hyena wandered through the camp. Best to book in advance as it is popular. But can be booked from Twee Riverein Gate. Beware the tracks here are sometimes deep sand and very corrugated.

Bosobogolo Pan Camp Site 2

Great site and view of the pan. Only an A frame shelter no facilities. We ended up here as ran out of time to get to our booked site. We were told at Twee Riverein all these sites were booked but there was nobody here.

Hodge Podge Lodge

As described previously. We could just get our land cruiser camper to where the cabins are. They often cater for large school groups so best to phone to check availability (084) 6980417

Bokpoort Cowboy Ranch

Bokpoort is closed for renovation

Rebellie Game Farm

Camping outside a self-catering lodge. Great views and wildebeest, eland and zebra. For 250 pppn to use the well equipped kitchen, nice bathroom and braii area. 350 pppn if you want to use a room. We had the place to ourselves. Good hikes from the lodge and 4wd trail. Good mobile phone reception

Mugg&Bean

Best place to eat in O R Tambo airport. Don’t bother with the Diner poor service and didn’t bring the right order. Prices better too

Gochas Engen.

There’s a garage next door and they fixed our puncture (tyre split, needed vulcanised) very professional job and charged 295 N$

Gochas Business Park

Small supermarket, cafe, free WiFi laundromat. OK supermarket across the road

picnic area & toilets

Currently being used as a work camp! Didn’t go in

Etosha - Olifantsrus Campground

Useful to know you can stay in the day visitors area if the camp is full.

Okarohombo Community Campsite

Really well maintained camp, hot showers and flushing toilets. N$150pppn. Good shade

Van Zyl’s Community Camp

Still no water, and garbage lying around camp site 2. We got a discount from N$70 to N$50. There was firewood available to buy. Nice quiet site

Camel Top Campground

From the road we could see a lot of litter everywhere and it did not look inviting so we went and stayed at Camp Aussicht 50km North

Zebra Rest Camp CC

From the road we could see a lot of litter everywhere and it did not look inviting so we went and stayed at Camp Ausschit 50km North

Route to Messum Crater

This is the junction to Messum Crater it is not signposted but will bring you to the North East edge of the Crater.

Koiimasis

This place was fully booked as was Namtib. There was “overflow” campsite but it was overlooked by chalets and no shade and we were charged 500N$ for two. It was too much for that, obviously you need to prebook at this time of year

Tiras Camping / Tiras Guest Farm

Great camp site. Now 190N$ but worth it. There are short trails from the campground and you can get out and walk around, good view points and saw several klipspringer. Beautiful scenery the colours are awesome. No hook up but hot hot showers and solar lights

Kalahari Game Lodge Campsite 20km from Transfontier Park

Great stopover after the park. Lots of game. The 4wd trail was great fun even in our super heavy landcruiser camper set up we got up the steepest part (just!). Well worth 210ZAR pp. clean ablutions and solar lights, water not hot would need to light the donkey but we didn’t bother. Very quiet camp site.

Kalahari Guesthouse and farmstall

Great stopover on the way to Khalakhadi. Clean ablutions hot water. Electric lights but no hook up. Nice sheltered spot gave some protection when the thunderstorm hit in the night! 300R for two

La Mariposa

Lovely place. Tapas with drinks -they where delicious. The people who run and serve are extremely kind and generous. At the bar they speak Spanish, English, Italian and a little of everything else.

Sang my daughter happy birthday (as the first time we went in it was her) and it made the night.

Caso Paco

Great food especially calamari. Great views of the Sierra Nevada and Granada from roof top terrace. Dogs welcome on a lead. A little expensive but service was good ( 9.20 euros for calamares starter but good portion size)

Hotel Boabdil

Hotel with restaurant just off the main road from Granada along from BP garage. Great food at a good price, good size portions (8 euros for a large cheese burger).

Sukuza Camp

Noisiest camp in Kruger. We parked up near some fixed tents the guests using them were very noisy. The staff quarters are nearby and they played loud music until late and it wasn’t even the weekend. Not the bush experience we were expecting. Otherwise usual SAN parks facilities. Much prefer Maroela and Balule.

Limpopo River Lodge

Beautiful, quiet camp site by Limpopo River. Staff friendly and helpful. We were in site 4, ablutions were clean and hot water from donkey oiler, sites 3 and 5 would also be good we could not hear the water pump as we were far enough away. Excellent value for 122 BWP ppn with game drives too. Compared to last night at Goo-Moremi Gorge at 200 BWP ppn and noisy camp site and far too many rules, I preferred Limpopo River Lodge.

Ngoma bridge border crossing

Going into Botswana. We had problems paying road tax as the VISA card machine was not working and we had not enough cash. The customs lady was not prepared to let us pay in Kasane so a kind South African paid for us.

Mumbwa Toll Plaza

Official stop to check you have paid road tax. Will stamp your toll receipt you don’t have to pay anything

D104 Luangwa River

Nice flat spot near the D104 road under two large trees next to the Luangwa River. It is just passed the Luambe Nat Park sign so it is outside the park. We also asked a local fisherman if it was OK to camp here and he said it was. Someone had a fire here before.

Blocked Road

Coming from Chifunda our sat nav wanted us to go straight through village but this was not a vehicular track. The option is left or right, the left is RD105 right goes to a community camp. Follow RD105 for 2 km then turn right at a concrete sign block (no writing on). For straight on for 2km and continue South on RD105

Olperr Elongo Campsite

Looks closed, no place for us to park up at the campsite, it’s overgrown. So we didn’t stay here

Robert's Camp

Really chilled out camp ground with good facilities. We were charged 800 shillings ppn. There is reasonably priced food and a bar.
