February 17th, 2022 Casona Tabecal

Very quaint hotel with eclectic decorations and relaxing shared space. Host is very attentive. May need to call when you arrive in town. Luz Dairi at 3108613184. Rooms are 70 for fan and 80 for A/C. Mattresses
hard but we had a good night. we couldn't find the other posada...

February 17th, 2022 Cepita Municipal Pool

refreshing dip when it's 33degrees out! Best of all...3pesos!! Beautiful cabanas (shared).

February 17th, 2022 Cepita Plaza

Authentic little town. There are many walks around here. Don't miss the Mirador just outside of town! There is also a lake to walk to as well, but we didn't make it. If you are hikers, you could easily spend 2-3 days here.

February 17th, 2022 Teleferico PN Chicamocha

Friends wanted to come here to ride the teleferico. It was disappointing. Can get better views from the main road...and at the bottom is a mine, so you'll just see trucks and tractors. $52k pesos for park entrance and ride. $8pesos parking...

February 17th, 2022 Hotel Casa Bonita

Really the only decent place along here, and safe with the police next door. The road is filled with truckers, so if it's getting late, best to just stop here to avoid driving at night. current price is $50/night for Aircon for two.

February 15th, 2022 Palmar Plaza

beautiful village between Socorro and Galan. very peaceful and quiet during the week. Sunday can be a bit busy during the day, but everyone leaves. two restaurants nearby. The plaza has the biggest tree we've ever seen.... absolutely picturesque. Police are on the plaza and gave us permission to spend the night. very safe and even worth a pass through if not stopping for the night.

June 11th, 2021 Monumento Cristo Rey parking, Belancazar

Quiet town...safe. Beautiful drive up here and a nice stop for the night. A lot of hills so this is probably the best place to stay a night.

May 30th, 2021 Road closed

Wide open now...road is fixed. New bank constructed.

May 30th, 2021 by river, next to playground

Nice spot even if a bit unkept. Great to hear the river in the evening. Close to center of town and safe.

November 12th, 2020 Parador Rojo

Although it was morning when we got here, we asked about showers...they’re located through the restaurant and are free. Also, nice parking for the night next to the children’s playground and under some shade trees. We asked about overnight and they said it’s free. Wish we found this for the night.

September 22nd, 2020 Frenos los bogotanos

We were directed to this place by locals. They don’t carry pads but will get what you need. They were hesitant to do our Ford Transit (to heavy/large), but said they could do it if we find the pads. Because of their hesitation, we went elsewhere

September 20th, 2020 road construction

Still all along this road. Travel Sunday if you can as there is reduced traffic. Be prepared for extremely long waits...

September 9th, 2020 Near park

New parking area by donation. Beautiful views and closest to the entrance of the park. Can hear the birds and river here. It’s by donation so please give a fair value. No amenities.

August 26th, 2020 Puerto Bahia

Also location to drop off your vehicle when shipping IVSS to USA (possibly others?). They work with an agent in Colombia so they do everything for you. All quotes from other companies were about the same, but they quoted this part in pesos, and the final price came out to be 500,000 more pesos because the exchange rate to the dollar. Just note that it is US$900 just for the agent and all port fees in Colombia, more than expected because they quoted pesos.

August 22nd, 2020 Hotel el Conductor

Very clean rooms, A/C, nice hostess, warm showers but don’t need them here. Parking in front is safe as gas station open all night. Very comfortable and a good stop on the way to/from the coast.

March 11th, 2020 Robbery in guarded parking on the street

Talked with many, many people in Pasto. They warned against parking/sleeping on the street or in parks. People are getting attacked in evenings even outside secure parking.

All recommended to stay in the north of town, in secure parking. North part of town is much more safe. Higher police presence.

March 10th, 2020 San Andrés parking/estacionamiento

Be careful in all of Pasto sleeping in the street. We talked to many people in town and Venezuelans are attacking people at night. If you find yourself in Pasto, please try to find a secure parqadero.

March 10th, 2020 Small Parking bay

Only street parking now. We parked in front of the police booth and they said no problem as long as their boss didn’t show up. The night police came and firmly told us to move in front of the church. Also, many, many locals said Pasto was dangerous so be careful looking for parks or streets to sleep. Best to find secure parking. We stayed here because the police are very close and it was late when we arrived.

March 10th, 2020 Piscina Neptun

Showers without doors open to outside. Could only shower with swimsuit. Very cold trickle of water, we left...

March 9th, 2020 Cachiviro

Small port with restaurants and artisan shops. Large parking area with lights. Locals invited us to park in the gated area, closer to the shops, but the parking lot was more than enough for us. Well lit but not overpowering. Very safe. Another local recommended here instead of the other spot East of here as it’s more safe. Local ladies were fun to talk to. Follow the stone road to get here.

March 9th, 2020 Bridge over deep canyon

Well worth a quick stop! Just a few meters from the main road. Very impressive deep and narrow canyon! Park just before the bridge and walk on the bridge!

March 9th, 2020 Figurin Garden

Better at Tulcan cemetery, but if you missed it, this is quite nice.

March 9th, 2020 Wildcamp at the lake

Arrived evening and a local suggested we go to the ‘port’....you can see the flags on the shore from here. He said it’s safe here, but even more so at the ‘port’ (added in Overlander) as locals sleep there too.

March 9th, 2020 Casa del Arbol

Same: $3 to overnight. $1pp entry. Arrived Sunday evening and place was packed. Went at 7:30am Monday and had the place to ourselves for 1.5 hours...didn’t need that long. Bus arrived at 9am with tourists.

March 8th, 2020 Iglesia parking

No fricken way! Impossible to camp here! Waaaay to much slope, very small space (busses have to turn around here). It’s just not possible.... closing this place or remove it altogether.

March 8th, 2020 Iglesia del Rocio

Beautiful place and interesting layout for a church. Well worth a stop.

March 7th, 2020 Playa municipal tunduli

Looked to be a nice open space. There are four entrances: 3 to the west is for cars and where we stayed. Bathrooms are at the other entrance...never checked on them.

Close to road so can hear traffic but hardly any after 10pm. We had a problem on Friday night with a home or disco playing music until 7am!! It wasn’t close but we could still here omphh omphh omphh all night long.

March 7th, 2020 By the river in Sigsig

Awesome spot to stop for a night. There is also a special place for tent campers further, close to the bridge, across from the bathrooms.

March 7th, 2020 Road conditions

Everything is good on this road. Short bumpy section at top, but nothing to worry about. Wonderful drive and lots of waterfalls right on the side of the road. Recommend! Also several towns where it would be easy to camp for a night next to a basketball court, in front of a church or football field.
