Top of the World Highway 15 km from Dawson City | One of the nicest view ever! Clear view of Tombstone! Bring your binocular. Spectacular. Firepit. Big rig will fit. |
The 9th Trail secret campground | So this is mostly for cyclist or tent dwellers spot. Start walking the 9th trail. You’ll come to a rocky trail head. Carry your bike 100m to the firepit spot. Free camping with beautiful surrending in Dawson! Very quiet at night. |
Eagle Plain’s Lodge | Restaurant and cool lounge. Clean toilets! Wifi available (not free). Hotel room available. Nice stop. |
Toad River | Very nice! Fire pit, river, quiet, hidden, perfrct for one night. |
Parking lot | Awesome spot! Great view. Beautiful sunset. Quiet!!! |
Rest area | Electricity, big park, quiet spot near the highway, clean bathroom. |
McDonald's | Fuel station with fast wifi. Parking at the back to sleep in your rig. Extremely cleans and polite people. Highly recommended. |
La Chacra Holandesa | I cannot say enough good about this place! This is a most stop for all overlanders. I would have stayed a week if I could have! If you enjoyed the vibe of SwissWassi in Peru, you'll find this again right here with Jan and Marieke. I look forward to come back to Uruguay just so I can chill with my new friends on their very nice little piece of property! Lots of great birds around! Bring your camera! 5kms from excellent coffee shop and downtown. Definitely a great place to write a book. |
Tienda Inglesa | The parking seem safe. Very good selection of meat, wine and pasta. It is a bit a mini Wal-Mart, you'll find kitchen gear and electronics. There is a slow but working ATM at the entrance, worked with a cirrus/maestro. Underground parking available too. Have fun. |
Corrupt police Entre Rios state | There was a control southbound only, but about 50kms south of that point. Good luck! |
Gualeguaychu, Argentina to Fray Bentos, Uruguay | Argentina to Uruguay. Once again, this was my favourite border crossing (#22). Sooooo easy. So friendly. I cannot recommended this border enough if you want a worry-less crossing. |
YPF gas station (estación de serviço) | Huge beautiful rest stop! Very clean. No wifi (not working, it's their strategt I figured). |
Police checkpoint | Just waved through. Most police were on their smartphone not caring... |
Very rough road | This is a bad choice of road (#23) for many reasons: very rough pavement, lots of trucks, lots of road construction...there are better roads out there...avoid this one if travelling with bad suspension or RVs |
Damaged Road | Did this road in the rain, fog in the dark. Terrible life decision. Unexpectedly huge pothole on the highway that can cause damage. Be careful. |
Shell Station | Nice place with fast wifi. Quiet and clean! |
Axion Rodovia | Extremely noisy. Not recommended. Hundreds of truck parked in the large parking lots. Not many options in shabby Bahia Blanca (which is now an oil town). Do not fuel full here, gas are cheaper by 35% 150kms further south. |
Police Checkpoint | Not a meat checkpoint for cars haha. Checked paperwork. Friendly staff. Quick. |
Shaded Park behind YPF | Clean and quiet. Password for wifi still |
Checkpoint | Police controlled both way. They were friendly, very kind, took 5 minutes to register paperwork. |
Rio Colorado Fruit & Meat | Only stopping southbound rvs and van. Nobody was there on the northbound side. |
YPF | Wifi on/off. Fast when working. Small YPF, big parking with olive trees behind. Place for asado bbq. THIS IS YOUR BEST OPTION, of heading south. Bahia Blanca has miserable option for gas station (all too busy!). Stopping here is the best option +-160kms on Ruta 3. It isnt FANTASTIC, but is is quiet, fast wifi, kind staff and has clean bathroom. Possibility to pitch a tent too! |
Biggest dinosaur in the world | Very cool. Very big. Free! 30m from the highway. |
Behind Esso gas station (AXION) | Still opened. Looked cleaned. Wifi was not working. |
RN 3 – Fruit Checkpoint | Only southbound. Nothing to add. Good luck! |
Military checkpoint. | Asked me where i am from and where I am going. Friendly soldier. |
Petrobras Gas Station | Very slow wifi. They SELL COLD BEER! (And wine) Excellent espresso. Huge parking. Very clean place. Okay for a night! |
Police | Nobody there today. Building seems running down... |
Police checkpoint | South to North : nobody was there. Southbound: yep. Be warned. Locals seems to use an alternative route. Check it out on Maps me. It is a detour...but might be worth it if you think of running in trouble. |
Corrupt police | I just want to point out that you are never forced to pay on the spot in Colombia. Take the ticket with a smile. Say that you have no money on you. Leave the country in Ecuador (they have no system to track tickets on foreign cars), and smile. |
