glenn Check-Ins

May 6th, 2022 Valley view, lotsa sun and wind

Plenty of places to spend the night between the road and canyon. Nice view of Grand Mesa and beyond and down into the valley below. No shade though, and plenty of fetch so the wind picked up as the sun went down.

May 2nd, 2022 Echo Park Campground

Absolutely beautiful CG and and awesome drive to get here. Nice hikes along the river and really well tended place. Pictographs on the canyon wall, although one looks suspiciously like a baseball.

April 30th, 2022 Another Blue Mountain Road spot

Beautiful views into the valley. A little bit off the road in a juniper grove. Some cell service, but not great. This is a dead end road only accessible from Dinosaur Monument on the Utah side.

April 28th, 2022 Hoodoos and a memorial(?)

Beautiful spot, well used but also spotlessly clean. There are a couple of hoodoos right here, one with a fire ring in it. There’s also what appears to be a little memorial garden someone built. Pretty windy and road is rough. Also looks like it’d be busy with four wheelers careening around on weekends. Perfect spot for us on the way out of the Book Cliffs.

April 26th, 2022 Pull out on Rt 65

Good sized pull out off of Rt. 65. Maybe a boat launch? We searched for a better spot up the road and on 45 1/2 but all private land. It was fine for the night but close to the road so plenty of noise.

October 19th, 2021 Wildlife preservation area near Mt. Shavano

Lots of options along the road but it’s pretty popular with hikers. We went up on a spur road and found a nice clean site.

October 13th, 2021 Rio grande camping

Head to this spot but take a left on the river side levee and drive 1/2 mile. Take the first right toward the river and there’s a better site that’s a little more private. Also, check out the Spin City laundry while in town, spotless and Connie who works there is lovely. We stopped in town for an errand day and it was just what we needed before heading back to the wilds of NM.

October 8th, 2021 Taos Junction boondocking

Lots of options along this road. There’s road noise but you can travel further in to get away from the highway.

October 30th, 2020 Flat Tops Staging Area

Long drop toilets and cell service, those are the pluses. It’s pretty busy with people coming and going but in a pinch if you need a spot for the night it’ll do just fine. If it’s dry the trails are really fun, but don’t try them when it’s wet.

October 21st, 2020 Wolf Flats

Lots of camp sites to choose from. There is road noise from the highway, at least in the site we chose.

October 20th, 2020 Forest service free dispersed camping

Lots of flat areas. Nice walk up to the lake and a stream along many sites. Amazing cell service. Hunters also use the area for camping and traveling along the road so it was a little busy when we were here.

October 15th, 2020 Pine Flats, Boise National Forest

Amazing hot springs here and the campground was open and free. It’s the end of the season, and hunting season, so we decided to stay here instead of dispersed and it was a great spot. Short walk to the hot springs with lots of pools and a waterfall/shower. Our favorite was a short walk through the river that was totally worth it.

October 9th, 2020 Easy river access, lots of room

Two spots, one really large and flat and another just up the hill that’s shaded and private. We’ve got two rigs and spent two nights along the River. Beautiful views of the river and mountainside. Good fishing as well, little road noise from jake brakes but otherwise it’s just the river you hear.

October 6th, 2020 Creek side off a logging road

Right off the road but no traffic. Pretty babbling creek. Room for two rigs and well maintained forest service road right behind the logo pass visitors center

June 17th, 2020 River Bridge

Lovely spot with lots of birds. A little traffic noise but not bad. Some mosquitoes as the light went down.

June 13th, 2020 Riverside Campsite Near Tropic Reservoir

We’re a bit down from the marked location. Right beside the stream. Lovely spot except for the 4 wheelers zipping along the roads.

June 6th, 2020 Near natural arch

Flat grassy pullout at a former intersection. Nice. I’ve of Eagle Rock and surrounding formations.

June 18th, 2019 Smith Creek Campground: Creekspots #2

As described, beautiful sites, but you can’t escape the road noise. Even still, we had a comfortable night here and enjoyed the creek.

June 17th, 2019 Lake Como Rd boondocking

As described. Pretty popular in the nice weather but lots of options for campsites with fire pits. We went up a fair bit but the road is pretty rough and rugged. Nice views of the surrounding farms and distant mountains.

June 16th, 2019 BLM black canyon

Beautiful secluded campsites. Road is really rutted farther down. Lots of flowers and sage brush this time of year. Fills up on weekends so get in early. Car accessible.

May 24th, 2019 River beside forest service road

Right off the road, spaces for a couple of vehicles beside the bridge crossing the river. A few fire pits, amazing views.

February 2nd, 2019 Wild camp near Mex 3

We travelled in a little further down the road. Very quiet and lots of room for 5 of us. Really convenient spot along the Mex 3.

January 23rd, 2019 Desert Parking

Easy access, pretty quiet. Rough road though with lots of pretty deep potholes. We made it fine with a tundra.

August 30th, 2018 Open field on Owls Nest Road

Mown (?) field on Owls Nest Road. Lots of room, easy access from well maintained forest service roads. Can accommodate a large group.

August 29th, 2018 White Oak Campground

Tent camping. We stayed mid week and were the only campers. Only 8 sites, $20 a night. There’s nothing for boondocking as near as we can tell in the area so stayed here.

August 26th, 2018 Grassland dispersed camping

Close to RT 90 and Kadoka in the Buffalo Gap grassland. About 45 minute drive to Badlands. White River Rd to FS 7103. Travel under the railroad bridge to the gate for a nice camping spot. Beautiful views, no road noise. Lots of birds and long prairie views. We had a thunderstorm and parked under the bridge for a little protection while it was happening.
