Museum and community Centre | This spot is as described. The museum has lots of interesting information about the area and lots of brochures for other nearby attractions.
OnRoute | A great place to stop, gas, food, wifi, picnic area and dump station conveniently located just off the 400 highway south of Barrie.
Freeway Tavern | What a gem of a place to stop for an inexpensive meal and a beer 🍻. Just off the highway, doesn’t look like much, but don’t let its looks fool you. We had a fabulous meal of chicken and chips with beer for $23. Fast, friendly service, highly recommended. |
Lathrop State Park (Walsenburg) | Tried to stay, but by reservation only, either on line or in person. The rates are considerably higher than in 2016, $36 for a non-electrical site. The non-electric sites are a fair way from the powered sites. It does look nice and was t dull, but no reservation😳. |
Restaurante Palmitos | Newly opened establishment, locally sourced food and excellent flavours! Run by a mother and son team, Lennie and Tia. Walking distance from either campground down the road. Very clean and fast service. |
Casa Blanca Hotel, Restaurant and Bar | Lovely property with good restaurant, bar and rooms available. Big yard for campers, please inquire in restaurant about camping, but you should be self contained. We had dinner and breakfast. Service was very good. Food was good value and good portions. |
Texaco Station | Great gas station with hotel, tienda, car wash and restaurant. Food in the restaurant is very good and service is fast and pleasant.
Captain Hooks Shrimp Restaurant | A fabulous restaurant situated among the shrimp ponds just outside Belize City. We had a fantastic meal, curried shrimp for one of us and coconut shrimp with mango chutney which was to die for. Lovely view of the area, a greatgvcr t FTF r txt r breeze to cool you down and outstanding staff. They also have a swimming pool, which is open on weekends. |
Crooked Tree Lodge | Great location for a quiet night, lots of birds in the water and in the trees.
Agua Y Hielo | Not many places in Cancun to get water to fill the tank with a hose, but this is one we found. You can also buy ice here. |
El Balneario Chiquilá | Stayed the night, was a great spot and night lights of the town were beautiful. For a out of town area, extremely clean and no noise at night. Clean because it is owned by the city and they pick up the garbage and quiet as it is patrolled hourly by the local police.
Lavanderia Splash | Great place for laundry, wash, dry and fold with same day service. 14 MP a kilo, so very reasonable. |
Gaby’s/Villa Del Mar | Great spot at the end of the street, Gaby’s on the left Villa Del Mar on the right. We ate at Gaby’s. The fried fish and ceviche were fantastic. Asked if it was ok to camp for the night and they said yes. The beach is impeccably clean and cleaned by the restaurant owners. Very quiet at night even though the pier is only steps away. NO loud music and no roosters in the morning.
Lavanderia Alesandra | Wonderfully clean laundromat, do it yourself or drop off services. Drop off service is 12 MP a kilo, otherwise 35 MP wash and dry.
Luisa and Daves Poolside Casa w Nature tours | This is the correct location for Luisa and Dave’s, not the other location, the corner of Calle 21 and 42.
Grutas de X'Tacumbilzuna'an | Arrived after the gates were closed for the night, so decided to park to the side of the road on the bike path. We are fully self contained. It was a full moon so the sky was well lit. The gates weren’t open until 10 am on the Saturday morning. After paying the entrance fee the kind gentleman offered us headlights and proceeded to give us a guided tour. Well worth the time spent. |
Ruine Edzna | Visited here and had to pay 60 MP per person. If you keep to the left of the visitor centre building to the right you can most probably enter for free. Wifi was not working when we visited, but a worthwhile stop on the libre to Merida. |
Walmart Campeche | We stayed one night with the blessing of Walmart security, too bad they forgot to mention the over the top loud bar that started up about 10pm and partied on until 3:30 in the morning, that was a Wednesday, I’m sure weekends are worse. |
Commercial parking lot | Moved over here from the Walmart, a great spot with lovely lot attendants. Paid 100 MP for the night. Even with all the Christmas festivities going on all was quiet be 11 pm. A quick walk to the malacon or into the old walled city for restaurants shopping and sightseeing. All night security was peace of mind. |
Restaurante MAR Y CRUZ | Had a great dinner here, Dary our host and waiter was fantastic, made happy hour for us. We stayed the night as camping was included with dinner. The beach is fantastic and nobody was on it. The facilities are a little sparse, but if you are fully contained unit a great lace to stop for a few days. We would have stayed but Dary told us there would be a 15 year old party the next day 😲🤪. |
Escudo Jaguar | Nice place to stay before going up the river to see the ruins. Camping is nothing special, but close to the boats in the morning. We were 4 Overlanders and we were able to negotiate 1000 MP for all four of us up to the ruins. Make sure to also purchase your ticket to the ruins across the street from the hotel.
Parking lot of Coppel/Chedraui | Quiet and safe place to park for a night, park on the far side of Coppel, parking lot lights are turned off at night, but still enough light from the street. A quick walk to the town centre. |
Dirt Busters, inside the Chedraui | Great place for full service or do it yourself laundry. They accept Visa and MC, open from 9 am to 9 pm. |
Hotel restaurante la isla bonita | We stayed here 5 nights, it was a great safe spot on the beach. We had meals from the restaurant, they make a great fish soup. Enjoyed beer with some of the locals and were treated very well. When we inquired about a car wash, Mary the owner had one of her locals wash our rig, took some time, but they did a fantastic job.
BG Energie Tecnologias Alternas | We were in need of a large amp fuse and not able to find it anywhere else, we got Miguel’s name from another business and in less than 24 hours he was able to source our fuse and have it for pick up, but he was also prepared to ship it to us in another part of Mexico. Very helpful and resourceful and speaks perfect English.
Physical address is 247 Ave Miguel Angel |
Home Depot | Very helpful staff at this location. We had electrical issues and the staff pointed us in the direction of other stores with a bigger variety of supplies. They also allowed us to park while shopping next door at Soriana.
Agua Caliente | Spent two nights here, it was ok, like many formal camp grounds in MX in need of TLC. We were charged 250 a night for dry camping, may also have been cheaper due to low season.
Purificadora H2O | Easy place to find, not sure the operator had a hose, but we carry an extra long one just in case. Very friendly and eager to help. |
playa piedra pintas | A very nice beach to spend a few days to catch your breath and reorganize. Go the the far left as you drive in as main beach area is very dirty. Be aware of glass buried in the sand. Great for swimming and snorkeling. |
Rainbow Laundry | Wonderfully clean laundromat, machines all clean and in working order. They offer do it your self or wash and fold service. Various sized machines and very reasonably priced. Attendant on site to help and make change. |
