14 or so(sites 10-14 closed when we were here) sites in beautiful pine forest just 10 miles outside of downtown Flagstaff. Great mountain views, trails, and even rock climbing if you're into that. Best of all....free!
Seems to be closed during snow season.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Closed to camping. Signs posted. https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd1104836.pdf
Report Check-Instayed at site #6 tonight. 1-5 all taken. not easy to find a level spot on 6, but didn't wanna keep driving up. great dispersed camping spot, picked up some trash though! pack it out folks
Report Check-InGreat designated dispersed camping spot! No campfires allowed. Moderater this camp spot is very much still open. 14 spots very well spaced apart. we stayed in spot 1 because we arrived at night. but we have stayed in many of them before. I think it closes temporarily in the winter when it's bad weather, but it's open now!
Report Check-InBeautiful, and secluded enough. But only one bar of Verizon service.
Report Check-InThis area is not perm closed. Campsites are great....well spread out and most are large and flat. Maybe only downside is that many are a bit of a distance from trailheads but not too bad. At site 9 we have a couple bars Verizon LTE. Photo is looking south from the site.
Report Check-InRoad closed as of late March 2022. Recommend 151 spot right up the main road instead
Report Check-InGate was closed, so we didn’t stay. A lot of forest roads around here seem to be closed this time of year.
Report Check-InBeautiful wild free camping.
My favorite so far. We will definitely be back.
Campsites 10-14 are closed till aug 31st.
We stayed in #9, which had an abandoned cab over camper, that was marked from March 2021 and needed to be towed. That didn’t bother us :)
The site is now open and a great place to stay! Good for birding and star gazing. Great trails for hiking and close to the AZT.
Report Check-Inwe stayed here, it was open for us and it says to only park in designated campsites here. we showed up at 4pm stayed at site 1, saw one other person drive in but no others. maybe it picks up on Nov 22 when the ski resort opens? we drive a 2wd van and we arrived in the rain so it was muddy too but we made it just fine (and we are very cautious drivers). that's not to say the road was nice but definitely doable for the 1/4 mile to the first site, just take it slow. also there are semi permanent signs saying "no campfires" all over the place
Report Check-InThis site is still closed, even though nps website state that it is open.
Report Check-In14 sites with 10-14 closed when we were there. We showed up after dark and couldn't find sites - 4x4 necessary. Too rocky so we just drove on to grand canyon.
