Something not right?

Description

Coming from RoC, I had to stop here. Overly zealous guy, he even checked the registration of the motorcycle and wrote it in his notebook. He demanded 20k CFA to pass, even though I had a visa. Did not pay, he did not want to raise the chain and sent me under it. A lot of time lost.

RC -> Gabon
Both sides easy. I had visa and carnet for the car. Gabon customs needed some help with carnet.

Report Check-In

Amazed about the quick, easy, friendly border crossing on both sides. Took us all together 15 minutes to go from RC into Gabon. No visa for Germans in Gabon needed 😎!

Fast and easy. Passport and Carnet are all stamped on one place. We were done after 10 minutes. They did want to have a look inside our car though, the first time that happened since Mauretania. They didn’t say anything about our dog.

From RoC to Gabon. Friendly officers nobody asking or hinting for any money. Waited a bit for the immigratiom officer to confirm that also with a Dutch passport we were allowed entry without a visa.

Very friendly people, only 10 minutes to stamp CPD and 3 passports.

Report Check-In

Exiting Gabon to Congo, three offices in a row immigration,customs and police to check in with. Each one inspects documents and records them. Immigration officer was professional. Customs officer softly asked for a.gift, laughed when we said no. Gendarmerie was much more insistent about a payment but we were also insistent that we didn't need to pay and eventually they waved us on our way.

The police officer tried  to make us a difficult time but in the end he let it be. After 10min we had the stamp in our passport. We are traveling by bicycle and heading to RoC.

Report Check-In

After getting to the second border police checkpoint, I think I understood what their scheme is. The first guy fills a form and asks 20k and gives you the form as a receipt. Note that the sum is not written anywhere.

After that, you reach the second (and main, probably) checkpoint near Lekoni (on the map as well) and they ask you for the form. You remain with your pockets empty and with no proof of payment.

Please don't pay, as it will perpetuate the scheme. Ask for a receipt. If they don't give you one, just wait it out.
