Still possible to get Ghana visa here as Overlander tourist.

** (Read recent entries for Ivory Coast/Ghana border… some folks entered Ghana VOA paying $150USD or do $50 2 day transit visa - I was late reading those posts - I would’ve probably gone with either of those options instead of waiting in Conakry for visa).

For me it took 5 days to process application. They initially told me 3 days max.

Received 10 day single entry after 1 hr of talks. Explanation given by consular officer for delay and near rejection was that I didn’t have Guinea residency - which was not asked for as a pre-requisite when I lodged application. They seem to go back and forth on this requirement.

If you want to try your luck;

- Apply on-line using Guinea-Ghana Embassy site;
- Complete application, upload requested docs - PRINT
- Make on-line appointment
- Make payment at bank for $80USD

(For online application select Guinea Resident.)

My package at time of application included;

1. Printed copy of application
2. Passport copy with all visa pages that have stamps
3. 1 Hotel booking
4. Letter of introduction (self generated stating intention of travel)
5. Travel itinerary (I used a google maps route)
6. Covid Vaccs
7. Yellow fever vax
8. Copy and original of payment receipt

They asked me to apply online on www.ghanaembassy-Guinea.com
After applied online, I booked my appointment to deliver the online form and all documents and got it next day appointment.
Next day they checked msg documents and asked me to deposit 80$ in FBN bank. Gave them receipt and they told me 4 business days but I requested them a lot and explained about my time scheduled so Counsellor asked me to come next day. And next day I got multiple entry visa in 2 hrs.
Documents
Hotel reservation
One passport size photo
Yellow fever
Covid vaccine
Flight ticket or if by road then route map
Visa request letter
Guinea visa.

So if you are coming to Guinea by land so don’t forget to paste biometric sticker visa. You can do this in ministry or airport. I done this on airport and they took only 5 minutes to give me sticker visa ( no bribe )

Note- at the time of online application - you will find a option - are you resident of Guinea - put yes otherwise you can’t proceed.

Specific instructions for applying for visas here (US and UK passports).
Before you start:
Arrange to have an address and phone number in Conakry (hotel, friend)
Start application online through Ghana Embassy of Conakry a day or two before you arrive.
Make two hotel reservations in Ghana
Make sure your Guinea visas are pasted into your passport by immigration (if you have separate printed pieces of paper as we did you will need to go to immigration at the Conakry airport and have them run biometrics and give you the passport version)
Have required documents converted to PDF files (make sure passport page photo is clear, mine was rejected at first because of glare on the paper)
Filling out application:
When you are given a reference number, make note of it you will need it later
Check off resident of Guinea
Be sure to say arrival by air (if you say land it does not accept the next block of information)
You do not need flight info
For the two required references, enter the specifics, name, phone, email etc of your two hotel reservations
For pdf docs you will need:
Passport bio page
Hotel reservations
Yellow fever vaccine
COVID vaccine
Request letter (basically a letter from you requesting a visa and explaining your reason for visit and timing)
Copy of bank statement proving sufficient funds
Photo of Guinea visa pasted in passport
Upload all of these docs to the application

Then you wait, we did not know about all these docs so had multiple requests for additional docs. It takes about a day for a response.

Once your application packet is accepted, you have to arrange for payment. $80 each. Bank info is on the embassy site. We paid at the FNB (National Bank of Ghana) in Conakry. They wanted US dollars for payment.
Make sure you get a receipt that has your reference number on it.

Make an appointment at the embassy through their online portal.

Bring a printed copy of the whole packet, include all attachments, the signed application form and the bank receipt.

You will leave your packet and passport at the embassy. We were able to pick up our passports with Ghana visas stamped in the next day. Process took us 4 business days but we waited until we were in town to start and didn't know about all the attachments.

My impression from the staff is that it IS possible - you have to say you are a resident of Guinea on the online application. If the paperwork is in order, you’ll get an appointment and then you go to the bank to make the payment and get the Visa 3 days later. We didn’t do it as we don’t want to spend 3 days in Conakry so we’ll do it in Monrovia

With a Bissau residency card was able to get visa. See photo for prices and other requirements. Hotel reservations worked just as well as letters of invitation.

Report Check-In

I was there to ask information for the visa. The secretary told me photocopy of Guinean Visa is needed for travellers. Therefore also without residency should be possible to apply.
- passport photocopy
- visa photocopy
- yellow fever certificate
- hotel reservation/invitation letter from Ghana resident

Report Check-In

Visa denied, only for Guinean residents. Told me to try in Freetown or Monrovia since rules might defer from country to country.
