We've been asked for the infamous CFA5,000. Only for the 3 out of 5... what's the rule behind? Dont know.
Pretending we perfectly know the transit Visa is for free, we eventually did not pay a penny.
Please hold your yard on that point. Paying for something illegal is providing fuel to the scam.
It took us 15 min to go through the first step when a couple of "toubabs" actually paid almost immediatly. Not good.
Emigration officers asked again for CFA5,000 each at the exit point. For the 4 of us (still out of 5) that time...
They were more stubborn over there and closed off any chance of negotiation. Then we made our way to the Senegalese emigration without any exit stamp. We explain what happened there to the Gambiana officer. He did not really pay attention and stamped straight away, letting us come through within 20 min.
In a nutshell, DONT PAY the CFA5,000 for the transit Visa. They are not legit at all.

If you are coming from south of the Gambia river (like Janjanbureh) don’t miss the customs office on the right hand side in the direction of the bridge. We took the turn to the left for the border to find out, custom was at the intersection. Gambia Immigration stamped us out and asked what we have for him. Passports were done and in our possession. Since it was 43° and there were 5 empty bottles of water, I offered another bottle. He laughed but took it. All in all easy and quick.

Very bad bignona-border road (under consideration)
Passavant: Senegal side 2500 fcfa,
side Gambia 1000 fcfa at the entrance and exit of the country..
Visa: nothing on the Senegal side, but on the Gambia side it gets complicated: transit visa 5000/pers (at the entrance and exit of the country) but free if you take a tourist visa
For the bridge, very corrupt place, you can pay in fcfa but they will take a fee on it, for our 10T truck they asked us 12000 fcfa = 1000 dalasi (for them) we fought but they didn't want to know anything , very good Gambian road..

Leaving Gambia for Senegal.
Both borders are easy, no money asked.
On Gambia side they explicitly said it was for free.
We got an issue entering Gambia few days earlier, our CDP was stamped by Gambia customs (which is not needed), at the first custom desk in Senegal they could not stamp our CDP, the second one (roughly 100m further) could after we explained him wat to do (just the stamp) for free

Senegal to Gambia
Senegal quick and easy. We didn't stamped out our carnet the passage, we left it "open".
At Gambian side we got entry stamp in CDP, entry stamp in passport (Polish citizens don't need visa) and registered in police notebook. Everything was for free but police said we have to pay for registration in book. We start to laugh at them and left without paying. Don't pay!!!

Report Check-In

very fast. the police man on the Gambia side ask for 1000 CFA for each stamp in the passport. after some friendly words it was ok and we leave without paying.
